****Save the Day- 5/1/2022!!****
Hi Everyone! Let me start by thanking everyone who responded to my last week's email!! I had many responses here, on FB, and on my website, with many sweet comments, words of encouragement, and expressions of friends and family, who are going through similar life-changes. For me, it's a mix of so many feelings, lots of work, but with a hopefully good outcome at the end! So, with that in mind, I do hope you're planning to come down for our final Shearing Day on 5/1/2022, here at the farm in Oak Hill! We'll get underway around 9:30 a.m. and wind up 1:30- 2 p.m. We'll follow our pre-COVID traditions with continental breakfast, coffee, juice, and snacks throughout the day. Feel free to bring a tasty treat to share, but we will have everything covered! Matt Moore, who has sheared our alpacas just about since the beginning, will be here, along with Deb and Patrick, the FFA teachers from New Smyrna Beach High School, and their crew of volunteer students, all of whom will help me in the field to halter up the boys and girls, and then give worm shots in the "arena". There will be seating for all who desire it. The Farm Shop will be open, as well as my studio, both for sales and information about the varied fiber arts that many of us do! Most of the products we've sold over the years, both at the New Smyrna Beach Farmers Market and here at the farm, will be available for purchase! We will hold the event, rain or shine. Bring your cameras, friends, and grands/kids to see, first hand, life on a small farm.

****Open House****

Concurrently, Brad Bennett of Keyes real estate in New Smyrna Beach, will be holding an open house for folks who may want to check out the house, outbuildings, and land, or who may be interested in its purchase! He'll have the answers to all your questions! You can reach him at: Brad Bennett, 386-409-1980, to schedule an appointment for a showing at a different time! Be sure to go to the Keyes website or realtor.com, to see a 3-D video, many photographs, and a drone flyover of the property!

And don't forget that our new address is: 156 Live Oak Court, New Smyrna Beach, FL 32168

****Big News from Bellepacas!!****

Hi Everyone!

I'm supposing some of you may be wondering where the heck I've been! And so- here I am to bring y'all up to speed on happenings at Bellepacas!! Many of you who know Jack and me, also know that the past couple of years have been particularly challenging! I guess the main thing that we discovered is that we are actually our age!! And that was a real wake-up call!!

1. Jack had to retire from ABS a year ago, after 42 years service with them. He has held onto his nitrogen business, servicing some of his cow customers and many dermatology clinics up and down I-95 from St. Augustine up north to Sebastian to the south of us.
2. February 29, 2020, was our last Saturday at the New Smyrna Beach Farmers Market, due to COVID policies set in place by the local government. We decided to open our Farm Shop, here on the farm in Oak Hill, which was a reasonable substitute, and we carried on till just before Christmas, 2021.
3. COVID hit us just before Christmas- Jack wound up in the hospital for 9 days, and I had a lighter version and was sick for just 3 days. And this was with us both being vaccinated and boosted!
4. In February, I needed a stent in my LAD, fondly known as the "widow-maker", or, in my case, the "widower-maker". And then just a couple of weeks ago, I needed a second stent, right in the same neighborhood.
5. You can see how this is going!! We sold the farm next door a year ago. We sold the condo in January. Next is the alpaca farm, which recently went on the market! See more below about that! And I wonder why there's stress in my life! Luckily we had the house in Sugar Mill in New Smyrna Beach, which I bought in 2005 when I first "retired" to Florida. When we moved to Oak Hill in 2008, we decided to rent the house out instead of selling it- sometimes I make really good decisions. Not always, but in this case, yes! I'd always said if I moved back there, I was gonna "Hicksonize" the house, which we've been working on since August. We moved in about 6 weeks ago, and are kinda betwixt and between the two. And now onward to current events!

******Shearing Day- May 1, 2022******

This is hard to say/write, but this will be our final Shearing Day- not our swan song, but our sandhill crane song (to pay homage to our local avian friends!). It will be in the tradition of past years- Matt will be doing the shearing, ably assisted by Deb Marsicano, FFA teacher at New Smyrna Beach High School, and her gang of FFA students! Brenda Mares will be the "bookkeeper" for the alpacas, and Jack and I, of course, will be here to help out! The fiber arts gang will be on hand at the studio, handling sales, answering questions, and letting you know about the great deals we'll offer! A light breakfast and snacks throughout the period will be offered! We'll get underway around 9:30 a.m. and wrap up around 1:30 p.m. Knowing that this will be our 15th shearing day, is sad, but- see below!

*******Open House- May 1, 2022*********

Brad Bennett, our listing realtor with Keyes Realty, will be holding an open house while the shearing is going on! I thought this would be a mutually beneficial time- 1) to enjoy the shearing activity and 2) give prospective buyers a chance to see the many possibilities for our lovely property- as a venue for weddings, parties, a working farm, or let your imagination run wild! So if you or some of your friends would like to have a tour of the house and property with Brad from 9:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m., please contact him at: 386-409-1980 (cell) or [email protected] (email)

I'm so happy to have had the years of personal contact and email communication with all of you- family, friends, customers- spread far and near, and no matter how often or seldom our paths have crossed! Please, I hope you'll be able to join us on the 1st for one
last shearing!!

Our new address: Ann and Jack, 156 Live Oak Court, New Smyrna Beach, FL 32168

Cheers and Love!

***A Bit of a Change This Weekend at Bellepacas!!***
Hi Everyone! Well, if anyone can tell me where the extra Friday that I need before Christmas happens, I'll be happy for any explanations! 1-5 p.m.- or regular schedule We'll be gathering in my studio this Friday, 12/17, from 1-5 p.m.- our regular schedule. As always, the 4 F's- food, fiber, friends, and fun- will be going strong, and I hope you can wander on down! This whole coming to the end of the farm saga and return to Sugar Mill, has me hopping most days! The house rehab is coming along nicely, but I doubt we'll be back in before Christmas, which I was hoping for. So, with that in mind, we have a few changes to our usual holiday routine, which I'll lay out below!! And remember, we still have all the wonderful goodies you've come to love and buy from us! Our cheeses, yarns, gifts ideas from around the world and right here in central Florida are still in good supply and available for your perusal!!
********Friday at the Farm Christmas Party!!********
I have changed the name of this long-time annual event to either the "apres Noel" party or the "farewell" party- not exactly which it will be and that depends on when it occurs. The bummer is that both Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve have the nerve to fall on Fridays this year, and I'm just too preoccupied for it to be 12/17, or--- this Friday!! So, I plan to keep everyone posted on exactly this fabulous event, with its new name, will occur, and I hope as many of you as can make it will attend!! Meanwhile---
**********Schedule for This Weekend!!**********
Friday at the Farm/ Farm Shop- Friday, 12/17- 1-5 p.m.
Farm Shop- Saturday, 12/18- 10 a.m.- 4 p.m.
Farm Shop- Sunday, 12/19- 1-4 p.m.
We'd love to see you somewhere along the way! We're very easy to find with our signage guiding you in from both north and south on U.S. 1 to Canal Ave. and back to the farm! Cheers!

It is such a beautiful, Florida Fall day!! In other words, temps in the 70's, not a cloud in sight, no showers in the forecast! Why don't you take a jaunt down to the farm for a visit? We'd love to see you!!
Hi Everyone! Whew! These past couple of weeks have been a circus ride!! First, I hope everyone had a great Thanks-giving!! Ours was lovely- spent with family east of Ocala! And, of course, our goats, alpacas, and ducks always welcome a visit from you! Plan to bring your future, current, or handwork to share at Friday at the Farm! We have a great time and welcome all comers!! It's enthusiastic customers, who love independent small businesses, that bring us success!!
It's very easy to find the farm- we're just 12 miles south of New Smyrna Beach, and you'll find signs from both north and south on Rt. 1 guiding you back to the farm! Here is our schedule for this weekend, without rain, of course:
Friday at the Farm/ Farm Shop- Friday, 12/3- 1-5 p.m.
Farm Shop- Saturday, 12/4- 10 a.m.- 4 p.m.

****News from Bellepacas!!****

Hi Everyone! Wow! It's been several weeks since I've sent out my weekly email, and, to be frank, I really miss sitting down and thinking about what I'd like to share. This week's news has been long in the planning stage, and now, we're ready to formally make our announcement! As most of you know, this has been a most challenging year, especially for Jack with his many serious health concerns that began just about a year ago. On many levels, the challenge becomes, not just for the person going through it, but also for those who surround and love him. By the summer, Jack was forced to retire from his cattle breeding business, although he has been able to continue his very part-time nitrogen route at many dermatological clinics from St. Augustine in the north to Sebastian, in Indian River County. Meanwhile, in the Spring we decided to sell the farm next door, to help lighten our financial load. Jack has made a fantastic recovery, considering how ill he was, but that bucket of cold water in the
face finally hit both of us! And so--- we're putting our beautiful Bellepacas farm on the market, and moving back to my house in Sugar Mill, in New Smyrna Beach. We are in the final stages of getting everything ready here on the farm so it's all s**c and span, while bringing the Sugar Mill house into the 21st century!! I love renovations so that's really no problem.
We're hoping to sell the Oak Hill property as a working farm, complete with animals and equipement, quite a considerable amount of inventory. Many of you who have been here often know how beautiful this location is- we call it "our piece of paradise"! If you or folks you know might be interested in its purchase, please contact me, and I'll be happy to furnish all particulars. Meanwhile---
**********Friday at the Farm!!***************
We'll be meeting here this Friday and until further notice for our lovely tradition of inviting fiber artists of all types and animal lovers who like to visit the farm down each Friday from 1-5 p.m. to share ideas, projects, and the 4 F's, as I call them- food, friends, fiber, and and fun! I do hope you'll be able to join us!
And, of course, Jack will have the Farm Shop! As Thanksgiving sneaks in the back door, don't forget our wonderful array of gifts from around the world and right here in central Florida! We offer hand-woven rugs and scarves, as well as hand-knit apparel and household items. We have lovely sewing and knitting accessories, and, of course, scads of skeins- of yarn!!
So, until further notice, here is our weekend schedule:
Friday at the Farm/Farm Shop- 11/19- 1-5 p.m.
Farm Shop- Saturday, 11/20- 10 a.m.- 4 p.m.
Farm Shop- Sunday, 11/21- 1-4 p.m.
Cheers! And I hope we'll see you somewhere along the way!

*****Uh Oh! Some Very Last Minute News from Bellepacas!!*****
Hey Everyone! Short and sweet, as this is so last minute! It has been a busy week, and somehow this missive kinda fell to the bottom of the to-do pile!! However--- if the weather holds, we'll be open! And, of course, Friday at the Farm is not impacted by the weather, so that will march on, regardless! ( And, as I'm typing, the heavens burst forth!! Oh, the irony of it all!!) So here are our planned hours for this weekend:
Friday at the Farm/Farm Shop- tomorrow, 9/3- 1-5 p.m.

*****Coming Up This Weekend at Bellepacas!!*********

Hi Everyone! After a week's sabbatical, here I am typing out what's gonna shake around here this weekend! Somehow Jack and I have been particularly busy getting ready to make some changes to our lives. Announcements will be forthcoming soon. We had planned to :be on a road trip for the next couple of weeks, but had to postpone it when it became clear that this was not a time to be heading out. So we will be around this weekend and I have prepared a schedule as follows. I just want to put in a good word for my trusty Friday at the Farm! We will be meeting this Friday, 6/ 18, from 1-5 p.m. in my studio here at the farm in Oak Hill. It's open to all- whether beginning fiber artist or seasoned pro! I personally love all aspects of fiber and crafts to be made from it! I do hope you'll be able to come and hang out, be it knitting, weaving, rug hooking, cross-stitch, embroidery, crocheting- whatever. For me, feeling the fiber pass through my hands on its way to being a "creation" is so very zen and pleasing to me! So we once again, will focus on the 4 F's: food, fund, friends, and fiber! Our Farm Shop specializes in hand-crafted cheese- both cow and goat milk, in many delicious varieties; eggs from our sweet hens; socks, teddy bears, and finger puppets imported from Peru; certified organic goats milk soaps' chatelaines from Europe, and a whole range to unique gifts items from around the world!
So here we go!! Since much of our shop is outdoors, it is contingent upon no rain! If in doubt, please give us a shout to make sure we're open.
Friday at the Farm/Farm Shop- 6/18, 1-5 p.m.
Farm Shop- Saturday, 6/19, 10 a.m.- 4 p.m.
Farm Shop- Sunday, 6/20, 1-4 p.m.

Cheers!
Ann

************Bellepacas' Weekly Goings on!!*****************
Hi Everyone!! Well, after last week's correspondence sabbatical, we've got lots of ground to cover in this week's email!! So let's jump in! Personally, I cannot believe that we're into May already! Thank heaven for the tax extension- gave me a breather to get ours turned in Monday. So onward! We're looking forward to a busy weekend and hope you'll make it on down! So let's get started!
******************Mother's Day Weekend!*********************
One of my favorite days of the year! We'll kick it off with Friday at the Farm at my studio today, 5/7, from 1-5 p.m. Although some folks are wandering back North for the summer months, we hard core fiber folk will be gathering to celebrate the 4 F's: friends, fiber, food, and fun! Simultaneously, the Farm Shop will be open, stocked with all the goodies you've come to know and love! We've got our wonderful alpaca yarns- dyed and natural; fresh eggs from our "girls"; our imports from Peru- alpaca teddy bears, alpaca socks, hand-knit finger puppets, woven ditty bags; felted products made by a women's co-op in Nepal; goat and cows' milk cheeses; certified organic soaps from right here in central Florida; and tons of hand-knit/ hand-woven garments and household goods! Oh, and I almost forgot- I'm still making and selling masks!!
Farm Shop- Saturday, 5/8- 10 am- 4 pm
Farm Shop- Sunday- 5/9- 1-4 pm
*********************Shearing Day 2021**********************
With our other semblance of a return to normalcy, we're having Shearing Day this year on Sunday, May 23, once again, we'll have Matt back to shear, with the able help of Deb Marsicano and her FFA students from New Smyrna Beach HS. Together, we'll shear, trim feet, grind teeth as needed, and de-worm. We usually wind down around 1 p.m., so come for any or all of it! I always point out that less than 2% of the U.S. population lives on family farms today. We love for you to actually experience a family farm in action- and don't forget, in addition to our "girls", whose eggs will be available for sale, you'll get a chance to meet Johnny and Carol, our two adorable goats, who provide comic relief around here!! Refreshments will be served!! The Farm Shop will be open! It's all good! And it will take place rain or shine! So come on down!!

Hi Everyone! I'm hoping you'll be able to come down sometime over the weekend to enjoy our farm, alpacas, shop, and this absolutely perfect weather that we've been having! I'll be hosting Friday at the Farm, as we return to some semblance of the normal routine we've known for years! Of course, on a new note, the Farm Shop will be open concurrently, with our delightful array of goodies for your perusal. Oh wait! Yes, indeed! I almost forgot the masks I've made! They are all cotton, double sided, with a silk gauze layer in between, to keep them light, but effective. *****Spring Arrives at Bellepacas!!*****
Hi Everyone! I hope Spring is showing up in your neck of the woods!! We don't usually have spectacular Springs here in Florida. It's much more subtle, but this year has been exceptional! I was over in Deland a couple of Sundays ago, and the azaleas were in full bloom and absolutely gorgeous! Enough so, that I've planted 3 good sized bushes around a gorgeous slab of coquina under a grove of trees that seem like the perfect location! More news later! So far, the forecast for this weekend looks promising, though I dare not hope for too much! We'll be gathering for Friday at the Farm (see the schedule below) for an afternoon filled with the 4 F's: fun, fiber, food and friends! It's very easy to socially distance in my studio, and if the weather is gorgeous, we can even plan to hang out outside! Fresh shipments of our "old faithfuls" have arrived, and there are wonderful varieties of our cheeses, both goat and cow's milk; freshly processed yarn in gorgeous natural and dyed in many colors and weights; our alpaca teddy bears, bunnies, and guinea pigs; fresh eggs from the "girls"; and a great selection of fun "chotzkes" that make cute gifts or treats for yourself!! Because don't we all deserve a little reward now and again?? Well, I think so! If you'd like a tour of the farm, we do try to work that in during our Farm Shop hours, so please call and let us know when and how many will be with you! Hope we'll see you over the weekend! Cheers!

A Friendly Journey

Jack and I started to acquire our herd in Spring, 2007, shortly after our marriage! In 2008, we were able to buy the first of our farms in Oak Hill, FL, and then in 2011, we bought the adjacent farm, where we currently make our home. Our places(s) are truly a piece of Old Florida- with granddaddy oaks, dripping with Spanish moss, 3 large ponds for the animals, my studio, Jack’s garage (barn), and the loveliest of homes. We are easy to find, yet off the beaten track, adding to our sense of serenity.

You are more than welcome to come by to meet the alpacas up close and personal; come to my signature Friday at the Farm for all things fiber and the people who ply their amazing crafts, be it spinning, weaving, knitting, crocheting, x-stitch, needlepoint, and whatever other talents they have!!

And then there’s our double booth at the New Smyrna Beach Farmers Market every Saturday, weather permitting, on Sams Ave. in front of NSB City Hall! This is our 8th year of doing the market, and we love seeing old friends and making new friends!

What a wonderful life we have! Hope you’ll find a way to share it with us!
