These are Red-bellied Woodpeckers screaming to be fed. Baby birds are noisy & always hungry.
Three peli releases this morning. One had a wing injury, one has a fish hook injury and one had frostbite.
Tim has a lot of grooming to do after competing for fish at breakfast time. He has a gland at his lower back that he rubs to pick up an oil which will keep his feathers waterproof.

Sea Biscuit had 3 Pelicans ready for release - they were taken to Murrel's Inlet since our coast isn't safe for them. The first to go was this juvenile and he certainly was ready to be free!
Then these 2 adults were released and look who returned...he missed his buddies.
Heron on 211 was caught on film showing difficulty flying. He's now at SB awaiting diagnosis.
One of our Barred Owls was released in Bolivia. He was ready to go! Flew up into nearby tree to survey his new surroundings.

This is what Avian Influenza looks like in Pelicans. AI causes neurological damage and sometimes the symptoms improve. Protocol requires that the bird is kept in quarantine for 30 days to avoid spreading the infection. After that, euthanasia is required.
