Helping Paws Animal Network

Helping Paws Animal Network Helping hungry, hurting and homeless animals. See our website at www.helpingpawsanimalnetwork.org. All of us are volunteers who share a love for animals.

See our success stories at http://helpingpaws37830.wordpress.com. Helping Paws Animal Network is a non-profit organization under IRS Section 501(c)(3). We strive to assist local animals (in Anderson and surrounding counties in TN) in dire situations who are hungry, hurting or homeless. We raise funds to assist state-registered nonprofit rescue groups when funding is needed for food, shelter, vet s

ervices, boarding, etc. We prioritize verified cases based on available funds at the time of the request. We pay the veterinarian, the kennel or appropriate vendor, and/or purchase the required needs, such as food, supplies, or medicine. We also serve as a network for posting homeless animals and assist with spay/neuter costs prior to homing when needed and feasible. Our network is made up of anyone in the general public who loves animals as much as we do; we have seven members on our Board. Anyone, whether you know us or not, who would like to contact a team member with a comment or question may send a personal message via Facebook, or send separate mail to [email protected]. We are so grateful for all our friends and supporters; you assist us in helping those that cannot help themselves. Note: Any views expressed by individual board members or supporters on this or any other social media site do not reflect the viewpoint of HPAN. Thank you,
HPAN Board of Directors

UPDATE: the bill passed in the House yesterday and is on its way to the governor for a signature. This is a win for animals in Tennessee!

ACTION NEEDED TODAY! The bill to add animal fighting to RICO (organized crime statute) is scheduled for the House Floor for Thursday, April 10.

PLEASE reach out to your Representative and ask for a YES vote on HB 540 when it comes before them TODAY!
ABOUT THE BILL:
· The Tennessee Sheriffs Association it is supporting this bill to add animal fighting to the list of offenses that can qualify under the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organization statute. The National Sheriffs Association has adopted resolutions expressing their support to curb animal fighting and confirming the link to other organized criminal activities.
· This bill does not change the penalties for animal fighting, it only allows prosecutors to add RICO charges in addition to an animal charge if all elements of organized crime exist. This is another tool to curb organized crime.
· Animal fighting rings often operate as organized criminal enterprises, involving multiple individuals who engage in various illegal activities, such as illegal gambling, money laundering, drug trafficking, human trafficking, the sale of weapons and other violence.
