Adoptable Animals at the Oak Ridge Shelter

Adoptable Animals at the Oak Ridge Shelter This page is run by FORAS to showcase the current animals at Oak Ridge Animal Shelter. Each can be submitted online.

Click on the Linktr.ee blue link below for Adoption Applications, Volunteer Applications, and Foster Applications. The Oak Ridge Animal Shelter has a great selection of beautiful animals. They have all shapes and sizes of lovable mutts and purebreds, fluffy cats, shaggy dogs, playful puppies and cuddly kittens. Your chances of finding a wonderful companion who matches your lifestyle, family, and h

ome are excellent! Many people think a “second-hand” pet means second-rate. On the contrary, many shelter animals seem to sense what they were up against and become among the most devoted and grateful companions. Often animals end up in shelters because of circumstances beyond their control. They’re victims of a death, illness, divorce, or a move that didn’t include them. For others being homeless is all they have ever known. The simple fact is that there are many more animals needing adoption than there are homes. So when you adopt from a shelter, you become part of the solution to the overpopulation crisis. You give a deserving animal a new home and a second chance at life.

“Adoptable Animals at the Oak Ridge Shelter” is operated by a small group of very dedicated volunteers. We work closely with the shelter staff to provide comfort and care to the animals as they patiently wait for a forever home. It is our greatest desire to help place as many of the shelter animals as possible in loving homes, but often the amount of homeless animals exceed the amount of adoptions. Because we believe every adoptable animal deserves a second chance, we work to promote fostering, encourage sponsorship and placement of shelter animals with appropriate rescues. We are passionate about helping the homeless animals in our shelter find a better life. Please join us in our efforts by following and sharing our page. Oak Ridge Animal Shelter Information

Rowan is 🐕 Dog of the Day for Saturday 6/22/24.

I'm a good boy who likes to play fetch and hang out with my people. I’m an all around fun-loving guy! I always get to go to all of our adoption events because I'm such a good social boy who likes other dogs. I just don't understand why I'm still here. I have a beautiful coat too. It’s much more impressive in person. You have to see it to appreciate it! 😍

Rowan is a wonderful dog who has been here for too long (over a year 😢). He is boxer mix, a little over 2 1/2 years old, and 68 pounds. He is very friendly and even has a shelter best buddy, Oreo. They play together so well! 🐾 Rowan is more than ready to start the next chapter of his life in his new home.

Come meet him during the shelter’s open hours: Tuesday - Saturday, 12pm - 6pm or call (865) 425-3423 (press zero).

Clarice is 🐈 Cat of the Day for Saturday 6/22/24.

Meet Clarice. This girl is a doll! She's sweet, friendly, and just look at the swirly stache! 😍 She loves to cuddle and will shower you with affection anytime she has the chance. She even rolls over for belly rubs - and it's not a trap, she loves it! Clarice is FIV-positive, but that is no big deal, really. She can live with other friendly spayed/neutered cats and needs no special food or medication. We can provide you with more information. Please don't let that stop you from considering this magnificent girl for adoption. She is a one in a million and you will love her!

Clarice's adoption fee is only $55 during the month of June! 🎉

Come meet her during the shelter’s open hours: Tuesday - Saturday, 12pm - 6pm or call (865) 425-3423 (press zero).

Max is 🐕 Dog of the Day for Thursday 6/20/24.

Max is a good boy with a sweet personality. He walks well on a leash, loves treats and chew toys. He is active, playful, and would love a home with a fenced backyard to chase squirrels. He gets along with most dogs but will need a meet and greet with your dog first. This handsome brindle boy has been patiently waiting for his new family.
Max is a 5 1/2 year old, boxer/hound mix.

Come meet him during the shelter’s open hours: Tuesday - Saturday, 12pm - 6pm or call (865) 425-3423 (press zero).

Our foster kittens could use your support! Here's how.....and Thank You!

Many of you have asked what items are most needed in support of the shelter animals. While the city provides all the basic needs of animals residing at the shelter, their foster homes welcome your support! Fosters step in when animals are sick, injured or too young/old for the shelter environment, or if they need a break to decompress and learn that a family life can be such a great thing. If you'd like to send gifts specifically for these animals and their foster caregivers, check out these wishlist items.....

Meet our beloved shelter mascots, Spice, Katherine & DJ. 💛❤️
These precious faces are well known and cherished around our shelter! They love to greet staff, volunteers and visitors, so if you haven't met them yet, drop by to say hello soon!
Spice is our sweet ol' girl at 15.5 years. When she originally came into the shelter, she was found unable to walk. Staff worked to help her gain her strength & mobility, but even now, she has a special sway to her stride that is all her own. Spice was adopted once, but went on a hunger strike and refused to eat for her new family, so concerned for her well being, they brought her back to the shelter where she walked right in, went to "her" bowl and began eating. She, and everyone who knows her, knows deep down that she is the real boss around here. 🥰
Katherine (top) came in as a feral cat. She got loose in the shelter office area and no one could touch her! She just slowly came around over time and made herself right at home as the feline mascot. She and shelter vet Dr. Jinks have a very special bond and it's as if she was always meant to be here.
And that leads us to DJ, our newest resident mascot. You see, Katherine has not been a fan of any other cat since losing her best friend Black Jack earlier this year, but then DJ came along. DJ was a scruffy stray kitty with skin and dietary issues who just so happened to look like her old friend. She has accepted him as a lesser sidekick and they rule the roost together from on high. The family that rescued DJ still comes to visit him too. 🥰

These mascots serve as a reminder that family doesn't always look like you'd expect and it's often built in unique and untraditional ways. These sweet friends also serve as a comfort and encouragement to our staff and volunteers on the difficult days and we are so glad they are here! Again, drop by to say hello and visit with these and the other amazing animals at the Oak Ridge Shelter.

Anaya is 🐈 Cat of the Day for Tuesday 6/18/24.

We want to feature one of our adorable foster kittens today!
Adorable Anaya is a crazy orange kitten. This little boy loves to chase toy mice and play with his foster brother, Killian. After a hard day of running around the house, he likes nothing better than snuggling. His purr machine is always loud and his favorite time is mealtime. ❤ He does well with other kittens and cats. Also tolerates dogs well.

During the month of June Anaya's adoption fee is only $55!

He is currently in foster care. To meet this wonderful little guy please call the shelter at (865) 425-3423 (press zero).

We have fantastic and heartwarming news! The wonderful people at Hops & Hounds have offered to sponsor Oreo's food for life for his new adoptive family. They will purchase a Bark Box or Chewy.com subscription so he can have food delivered directly to his new home.

We want to thank Hops & Hounds for this very generous and amazing gift to both Oreo and his future family. He is a fantastic dog who has been here far too long, and now comes with his own food! If you want to meet Oreo, please come by the shelter during open hours of 12-6pm Tuesday through Saturday.

The world of animal welfare is made up of many unsung heros, and most are perfectly content with that. However, there's no way everything that needs done would get done without them! Our Dog Walkers are some of the most dedicated volunteers. They come every day, rain, snow, heat, flooded building, you name it, they are here for our dogs. Not only do they provide our dogs with breaks from their kennels and much needed exercise, they help the dogs build trust and learn how to walk on a leash. They get to know our dogs on a personal level and are some of the greatest advocates on the planet! THANK YOU DOG WALKERS!

Our Dog Walking Team has set up a great walking schedule and welcomes anyone who would like to join, whether you have an hour or a daily availability! Apply here, https://form.jotform.com/friendsofoakridgeanimalshelter/volunteer-application-updated-2023
