UPDATE ON RUBY...
Ruby is small but mighty, standing at 13.1hh and 760 lbs and 3 1/2 years old. She is very athletic. She is currently working on her groundwork under saddle and has a very quiet personality.
Ruby has not yet been ridden, but is carrying a snaffle and saddle without issue, and has not offered to buck with a saddle.
Her ground manners are great. Ruby loves attention, is good with her feet and up to date with all vaccinations. Ruby will require a smaller rider as she is not a large horse and probably will fill out but not get much taller. She is hind high right now, so she does still have some growing to do.
Ruby is starting her bridle work and will be ready for a rider soon.
Her current adoption fee is $1,250.00 but will increase with continued training.
If you are interested in this petite beauty, please visit our website at www.oakdaleequinerescue.com to fill out an application and adoption agreement with the name RUBY on the top.

UPDATE ON ARIE...
We are continueing to work with Arie, we went back to the basics on her ground work to work on the go forward. She is now back under saddle with a rider and doing much better. She is walking and trotting nicely, she does still need some motivation, but is not as hesitant and is now comfortably moving forward. She has not offered to buck, she is soft and light in her turns, and her stop is solid, her backup and go forward still need some work.

Arie is very athletic and once she understands she is free to move under saddle, she has the potential to be a nice trail and/or potentially a gymkhana horse. She is amazing on the ground, she ties, good with her feet and up to date with all vaccinations. She love to be groomed and attention.

This young lady is ready for her own person, preferably some one with training experience or a trainer.

Her current adoption fee is $1,500 but will go up with continued training.

This could have been avoided!!!

Casper came into Sweet River Equine for an ophthalmic exam and a lameness exam. Dr Bennett found potential squamous cell carcinoma SCC (cancer) of the third eyelids in both eyes likely due to genetics/his color with exposure to the sun. The only definitive way to know it is SCC would be to remove the eyelids and test it. The lameness exam showed subluxation of both stifles, joint effusion of the right stifle and joint effusion of both hocks indicating a chronic lameness issue.
In layman's terms;
Presumed cancer in both of his eye lids based off of how it looks, presumed bad
arthritis since there is fluid in his joints, and his knee caps pop out of place when he walks and trots in both of his hind legs.

Lack of knowledge about light colored, blue eyed horses and their need for UV protection for their eyes led to this tragic ending. It is a lifelong commitment to ensure that they have the proper care.
Sadly, Casper had to be humanely euthanized.

Update from her trainer Dani Jiest

Arie is a 4 y/o that now has a few rides on her, she does not quite understand the go yet so I would suggest more ground work to get her go forward ques solid. She has not offered to buck, she is soft and light, her turns, and her stop is solid, her backup and go forward need some work. She has wonderful ground manners, easy to handle, groom, tack up and carries a snaffle nicely. She was good for the farrier and currently does not have shoes.

It looks like Arie will be a nice quiet ride with a little spice if you ask for it. She has not showed any spooky issues, is used to the dogs and ATV. Arie will need someone who is either a trainer, willing to send her to a trainer, or someone with experience and has a trainer to continue with her education. Arie has a solid foundation and with patience, will be an amazing partner to someone.

Remember Arie? Here's an update from Dani Jietz...

I put a first ride on her Sunday, she is very unsure with a rider, but did great. She is really good about direction, now we need to work on getting her to go. I'll work her more to motivate her in the round pen while I'm on her.
It looks like Arie will be a nice, quiet ride. She stands at 14.1-14.2 hands.
Arie is up-to-date on everything. Her adoption fee is 1500.

Joey is a 19 year old 15 HH qh gelding
He was ridden for a few minutes on Saturday, and we quickly realized he is actually really nicely broke, does not need spurs but is pretty slow in the arena. (We did do days of ground work to work on the attitude in the round pen.)

I took Joey out to Pardee on Sunday, I did not put boots on him as he has shoes, I should have put boots on him as he is very tender footed. I suggest either pads or boots over the shoes on a ride. I went out maybe a mile. I was with friends who continued on and I turned around due to his feet. The swelling on his hind legs goes down with movement. When I left the group, he didn't even look back. He did walk faster on his own, but never looked for the other horses.

He is great but slow when riding in the front, and if he's in the rear, he will keep up with the pace that the other horses set.

He does pin his ears at feeding, but if you tell him "back" he will back up until you put his feed in the feeder and wait until you say okay. He is an actual gentleman.

I would recommend an experienced owner for light rides and experience working with tender feet.
Joey's adoption fee is $1000.

Paloma was a 20 year old Palomino Percheron Draft who was never started. She came in as an owner relinquish.
We brought her to Sweet River Equine Clinic with the intentions of having her teeth floated, vaccinations, and to have Sean Finn trim her feet under sedation. We had x-rays done to find out what was causing her lameness before we started trimming and that’s when the vet determined that she had rotation in both front feet.
She was beautiful, amazing and gentle, but her feet were so sore that she couldn’t bear weight on them while trying to trim her. We were not expecting to get bad news which was even harder to make that decision to have her humanely euthanized.
It was heartbreaking to all of us.

He is one one of the four horses that came in recently. He is registered with the American Paint Horse Association as Drifters QR Warrior ; born on September September 9, 2005.
He was a stud until yesterday. and is up-to-date on everything.
Warrior will be going into training with Dani Jeitz after he’s healed from his surgery.
He is broke to ride and dances, but we are going to try and get the dancing training out of him.
Stay tuned for more information on Warrior, and as always, if you are interested in adoption, please visit our website at www.oakdaleequinerescue.com to fill out an application and adoption agreement with the name WARRIOR on top.

For those who couldn't join us at our benefit barn bash, we had shared some news: our beloved OER vice president, Lora Handley, has been diagnosed with a brain tumor. While the tumor is fortunately not cancerous, it's quite large and slow-growing, so Lora has been advised to monitor it with regular CT scans every three months. Despite this challenge, Lora is in high spirits and is even asking for suggestions on what to name her new 'friend' in her head! 😊

UPDATE! We have a name! Meet Tyrion! Thank you, BA Best Lee for suggesting the name that fits him perfectly!
We got this little guy in from Stanislaus County Animal Control. We aren't sure what to name him yet. He is a miniature stud. He is very sweet and kind. Just needs a brain adjustment :)
We are asking for donations to have this fluffball of testosterone gelded at Sweet River Equine Clinic. Thank you in advance!

This is Vanilla, a 30+ year-old mare. According to her owners, she was a PMU mare before they had her. Vanilla is crippled due to improper hoof care and other issues.
Unfortunately, due to her age and her condition it was best humanly euthanize her. We want to thank Sweet River Equine Clinic for always being compassionate when this difficult decision is made. Rest in peace sweet lady.

Pregnant Mares’ Urine (PMU)

PMU is used to produce estrogen and hormone-replacement drugs such as Premarin, Prempro, and Premphase, and DUAVEE, a “Prempro Lite” which contains Premarin. PMU drugs are made by keeping mares constantly pregnant and collecting their estrogen-rich urine.

We received a phone call regarding four horses that needed to be rescued. All horses are going to need to be vetted so we’re asking for your help. The situation is a little different than what we usually deal with. This was a concerned citizen who reached out asking if we can please take these horses, as the owners are older and have health problems. There’s still no excuse for this neglect. All we ask is if you have horses that are your next-door neighbors that are in this type of condition to please call Animal Control. We know and understand that people don’t want to get involved, but try to put yourself in the animals shoes. We are asking for donations as all these horses are going to need to have a complete vet evaluation. They have not seen a Farrier in quite some time, they are not up-to-date on vaccinations or dentals. We have attached a donate button below if you are willing to donate. Thank you in advance for supporting all of us at Oakdale Rescue.

Oakdale Equine Rescue had the privilege of hosting a 4-day riding clinic with Brandi Lyons on October 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th. The participants were able to set their goals, learn how to reach those goals and succeed in meeting their goals. The participants had a fantastic time learning, laughing and enjoying meeting new people. The auditors learned a lot by watching and asking questions. Brandi was always willing to answer any question, walk people and horses through the process and always up for a demonstration. This weekend included those wanting to enjoy a trail ride, to having fun and being successful in the cutting pen.
Brandi breaks it down so anyone, beginner to expert can relate and learn.

This is what Brandi offers at a clinic; from her website: https://www.brandilyonshorsetraining.com/4-day-riding-clinics

WHY SHOULD YOU RIDE WITH ME (Brandi) IN A CLINIC...

I care about your goals.

I find out where you are at with your horse now and where you want to go. Then I put you on the correct path to meet your goals. You will not work on exercises that you do not need, only the ones that fit your goals. I will show you what tools you need to be successful in building the relationship you are looking for.

I am about the Details.

I give every detail so that you do not feel like you have to fill in the gaps. I give instruction that makes sense. I believe in keeping it simple and making it relate to what we already know. Horses are easy but somehow, we have made it difficult. I will show you exactly how they learn, what they need from you, and how to go about it in a successful way.

I am real.

When I work with you in the clinics, I am not giving you a quick fix, I will give you the tools to go out and be successful in the discipline that you ride in. I give real things that you can go out and do. I believe that your hands, your bottom, and your legs train the horse, so you do not need to buy anything you just need the time and the right exercise.

I am honest.

Every product I sell or if you ride with me, I give a 100% satisfaction guarantee. If you buy something from me and you do not like it, I will give you a refund no questions asked. If you ride with me in a clinic and you do not attain your goals, you can get your money back. I want people to know that I believe in what I tell you. I believe in what I sell, I believe in my clinics, I believe in doing the right thing.

I can relate to you.

I am a mother of 5 girls, I am almost 40 years old, I have been hurt, my income is incredibly important to our family, I have a special needs daughter that I cannot be out of commission for… the list goes on. All of which help me be more careful. All of these have also brought out a fear in me. I used to ride never thinking about the consequences but now I do. When teaching you I will understand that you cannot get hurt and I will teach you in a way that helps you become strong and independent without fear. I too worry about what people think, we all do, so I will not judge you. I will not make you feel less than or that you are not good enough. I will help you the same way I would want help if I was learning a new sport.

I want you to succeed. Period.

I have been working with horses and their owners for over 20 years. I want to show you that you can do this. That you “Got This”! I want to help you be successful in your journey. If you want to be a safe trail rider, a successful ranch sorter, you want to learn how to spin, do flying lead changes, pick up the correct lead, have fun playing at liberty, walk your horse safely from one location to another, get your horse to stand still while getting on, or finally understand those dressage moves… I promise to give you all that I am and will help you with any goal that you have.

I teach a method that has been proven time and time again. I teach it in a way that everyone can understand it and carry through with it. I will help you every step of the way. Please come ride with me!

God Bless,
Brandi
