On 6/8/2020 in the afternoon hours a Fire erupted in the floors above us necessitating an immediate evacuation of our premises. Thankfully, all humans and cats are safe and well(Our cats Vin,Elend and Annie have found a wonderful new home).Unfortunately, our clinic suffered significant water damage and the building has structural damage that may take over a year to repair. Our clinic will need to relocate. In the long term( we our in the process of securing a new location in the nearby area that will allow us to resume full operations. In the short term we will be able to offer our core services - Exams, Blood tests, vaccinations and more from our new temporary location at PetVet ( 4814 Broadway , Oakland) starting on 6 /23/2020 ( more details to follow). We our currently monitoring our incoming phone calls but ask that most requests come via Emails - [email protected].
We will make every effort to answer requests for Medication refills and food in a timely matter. The quickest way to have medication, flea treatments and food delivered is through VERSOURCE. You can find the link on our website.
We fully understand that some of your Kitties have urgent needs that will require you to take them to another clinic or Emergency service and that they will need access to your cat's medical records.
We have been in he process of fully "moving into the 21st century" by converting to a cloud based medical records system.
Unfortunately this process has not been completed by the time of the fire.Thankfully we do have all the paper records and our practice management software is fully operational and running and all Blood tests and X-Rays are already "in the cloud". We ask that you call or email requests and we will make every efforts to have these records scanned and emailed a soon as possible.
The Cheshire Cat Clinic has been a part of the Glenview neighborhood since 1973, but this clinic is more than a location, it is our incredibly loyal and devoted clients, who understand the unique value of a Feline focused Veterinary Clinic with a personalized touch. We have every intention to carry on and even improve our operations and hope that we can continue serving you and your cats in the days and years to come.
Be safe,

It is with a sad and heavy heart that I post this.. We need to find forever homes for Elend, Vin and Annie. Elend and Vin are a bonded pair and are both special needs kitties. They would do better in a home together without other kitties as they are both Fiv+. Vin is on anti seizure medication and Elend is on oral steroids for a skin condition. Annie is not Fiv+ but doesn't do well with other kitties, except Vin and Elend. She doesn't have any medical conditions. Only serious inquiries please. All kitties should be indoor only cats. These are our babies and we don't post this lightly..

Feline friends, as we try and make heads or tails of this situation, we will be closed until further notice. If your cat is on medication, please go through online pharmacies e.g. VetSource, Chewy, PetMeds, etc. and have them email, not fax your prescription refill request to [email protected] or [email protected] and we will approve your refills. As far as physical medical records, we do not have access to them due to the fact that the building has been red tagged and no one is allowed in the building. We will continue to serve you to the best of our ability during this time as well as keep you posted on our status..
Thank you for your understanding during this difficult time..

Dear cat Parents,
We would like to thank you for your flexibility and remarkably good natured understanding to all the changes forced upon all of us in order to reduce the spread of COVID-19.
We are currently not allowing non staff members into the clinic. We are handling carriers and patients with protective gear to avoid accidental spread through contact. We try to complete all transactions and communications by phone.
We are providing all necessary care (including Dental care).

People have remarked how spending time at home has allowed them to better observe the feline members of their family.
These observations may allow us to finally answer questions about our cat's eating habits, activity level and forms of play, toilet habits and relationships between the cats in multi cat households.
With these observations you may have concerns and we are here to help.
Being forced indoors as we all are may help deepen our understanding of our Indoor only cats, particularly, their need for stimulation.
In the multi cat household we can appreciated the need for distancing( some of us may even empathize with the urge to spray)within the home.

May we all find moments of comfort and joy in contact and play with your feline friends*.

We are here if you or your cat needs us.
Be Well.

* If you are looking for a creative outlet for you or your children, you may want to create interesting hiding and play spots from delivery boxes(properly sanitized) or "food" puzzles from Egg cartons etc.

Changes to Our Services Due to COVID-19

To Our Feline Families:
Like you, we are closely monitoring the updates regarding the COVID-19 virus and we are doing our best to comply while continuing to provide necessary medical care for your feline family members.
VETERINARY SERVICES ARE CURRENTLY EXEMPT from the announced shutdown. Until further notice, we will remain open during our normal business hours.

To comply with instructions for social distancing, we ask that you wait outside our door (or in your car) and a staff member will come to take your cat in to the clinic to be examined and treated, if necessary, by the Veterinarian. Communication with the doctor will be done via phone. After appointment, a staff member will bring your kitty(s) out to you as well as any food or medication that might be prescribed. Payment can be made via phone.

Due to the "shelter in place," please call at least 24 hours in advance for food or medication refills. You may also email us.

We hope that you and your family stay healthy and know that we are here for you.

! Put trash away where your cat can’t find it. A turkey carcass sitting out on the carving table, or left in a trash container that is easily opened, could be deadly.

Dispose of turkey carcasses, bones – and anything used to wrap or tie the meat, such as strings, bags and packaging – in a covered, tightly secured trash bag inaccessible by your cat.

“Dear Pet Owner,

I am writing this to you because I am human. I am a Veterinary Assistant, or a Veterinary Technician with hours of education and debt, or a Veterinarian with even more hours of education and even more debt. But I am still human. My feelings can be hurt.

For those of you that think we only do this for the money, google the average salary of a veterinary assistant (about the same as an Aldi cashier) or a veterinary technician (about the same as a carpet cleaning technician) or a veterinarian (about the same as a marketing manager). I can assure you, the physical and emotional toll is not worth what we are paid.

We do this for the love of animals. Or at least that's how it starts. A glimmer of something bigger than us. The thought that we can make a difference in the lives of pets and their owners. We want to save lives, heal the sick and help ease the passing of those we can’t.

Before you accuse us of only wanting financial gain, ask us when was the last time we helped an owner to relinquish a very sick pet because we could not bring ourselves to see it die because their good hearted human just didn’t have the money. Ask us why we then take on the debt of the surgery or treatment and lifelong care ourselves. Ask us how we feel when we cannot help because we are already paying that large bill from the last one we tried to save, whether or not that pet lived.

Ask us how it feels to be told we have no heart, to be told that if we really cared about animals, we would do this for free. Ask us how much it saddens us when we prepare an estimate only to find it is out of your reach. It kills us that we cannot just reach into our pockets and pull out the checkbook and help you as you agonize over the life and death of your pet. Although sometimes we do. Sometimes we just can’t bear the sadness and we do help to pay a bill. We don’t expect to get paid back, and 99% of the time, we don’t. Your pet’s life is worth more than the money it will take to treat it. Your pet’s life is priceless, to us as well as you.

But the places we work are bound by the same financial laws of every other business. They have to pay the rent/mortgage, utilities, equipment, medical supplies and staff it takes to treat your pet. They even pay the snow plow guy that makes sure you can get into our lot on a cold winter night or the lawn service that makes sure your pet can p*e in the grass without disappearing. This is not utopia where money doesn’t exist. If we did every thing for free, just for the love of animals, the place you take your pet for care would cease to exist. We wish it weren’t so, as do you, but it is reality.

Ask us about the multiple animals we support in our own households because no one wanted them or could not fix them. Ask us about those patients that stay with us long after we leave the building. The ones that make us cry through the night while we hug our own pets tightly.

Ask us how heartless we are when we have to look both you and your pet in the eye and deliver bad news. Ask us how many deaths we have witnessed, how many owners we have hugged and cried with. Ask us how we try to keep it together and remain professional until we walk out of the room, then cry. Do not mistake our stoicism for lack of caring. It is merely a thin layer of protection for our hearts.

Ask the ER veterinarian, technician, assistant how it feels to work 16 hours just to have the very pet you diligently attended, grew attached to, pass away or be euthanized because no matter what we did, it was just too sick. Ask us if we grieve with you.... because we do.

Ask us how we feel when we take your bleeding, broken, seizing, crying pet from your arms when you come in the door.

Ask us how we feel when we take your unresponsive pet and race it to the back only to find they are gone and now we have to come back and tell you. We want to hug you while you sob and sometimes we do, because we’ve all been there, we know how it feels. We are all too familiar with the heart wrenching pain that comes with losing a pet, a friend, a family member. Ask us how we feel when we cannot fix our own pets, even with all our resources and knowledge.

Now, let me tell you why we do this for a living…..

For the love of animals”
