Hair of the Dog - A Bay Area Rescue is a foster based rescue. There are always dogs in need of shelter, care, love, and compassion. And we are here for it.

Our vision is a world where all dogs are safe, healthy, happy, and loved; where dog owners are educated, engaged, and responsible; a world where we can make a meaningful difference in the lives of dogs and their owners While we are a young organization, founded in 2024, our passion and experience in the animal rescue world goes way beyond the current year. While volunteering at other organizations

throughout The Bay Area, we discovered that there can never be too many rescues or volunteers in this overwhelming industry. We are inspired by our community's incredible generosity and concern for dogs in need and strive to help one dog at a time with their continued support. Sometimes larger dogs can take longer to place. But it’s always worth the wait! Martha and her new mama seem to have found each other at a time when they needed each other most. We know they will bring each other so much comfort and joy 🥰

It doesn't get much better than Roo! We are guessing chi/min pin/terrier? He is about one year old, approx 9lbs (he could probably use a couple more), playful, loving, dog- friendly, cat neutral so far(will chase if they run, but generally uninterested). He seems to be mostly potty trained, but will need a refresher with any transition. And that ear!! 😍 Apply to foster or adopt: www.hairofthedogrescue.pet

UPDATE Mona was rescued! **We just seem to have a soft spot for these little senior chis 🥰 We would like to help Mona but will need a foster (or adopter!) who could keep her safe and warm. She is about 10, weighs 6.5lbs, LOVES love, is missing a foot (all healed up) and needs hernia surgery (which we’d be willing to take care of). Still hoping to find a temporary place for this little guy to crash while he awaits his new home. We have two very promising potential adopters but both are out of town for the next couple of weeks. While his current foster home is doing a wonderful job caring for him, the three small children in the house are a little stressful for Gizmo and a quieter home would be better. Winnie (Winston) was surrendered to us by a thoughtful owner who wanted him to have a better life. Well, I'd say mission accomplished! This anxious boy had spent quite a bit of time in a crate and wasn't allowed on furniture. Soak it in buddy! 🥰

Good morning! We are in need of a foster for our little Gizmo. He is as quirky and goofy as they come! A true terrier, as he has gotten more comfortable, we've discovered that he doesn't like cats and would likely do best in a home without small children. He is good with other small dogs but big dogs can be a bit intimidating for him. If you or anyone you know would like to foster Gizmo and see that fuzzy face every day, please let us know! It was a beautiful day in the Presidio! Thank you to all who joined us for the Paws in the Presidio fundraiser walk. Beautiful Koda has arrived! Got lots of thank you kisses and he settled nicely in the car after only a few minutes. He appears to be crate trained, dog friendly, and check out his head tilt game! The shelter had him listed as a one year old Australian shepherd mix…we are also seeing German Shepherd and maybe Collie? All big, beautiful, furry 57 pounds of him could be yours! Little Alice wasted no time busting out of her shy shell! This little gal is spunky! We are thinking she might be a bit younger than five now. Very silly antics around the house, loves a good cuddle, adores our big ‘ol Max (but who doesn’t?). She could use some work on potty training and still seems quite fearful outside. It’s not just little black and white fuzzy faces today! Because we have awesome fosters, we are able to rescue this gorgeous boy as well. Koda is a one year old Australian shepherd and he’ll be an official HOTDog starting tomorrow. Please help us spread the word to find his new person.

We decided that one adorable fuzzy black and white face just wasn't enough! We'll be welcoming this little gal into our HOTDog family tomorrow. Alice is about 5 years old and weighs a mere 7lbs. She's very scared at the shelter so we're going to give her some time to relax and show us her personality before finding a foster/adopter. Stay tuned for details...

After a few days in foster, here’s what we’ve learned about Gizmo:

He has the cutest fuzziest face, shortest legs, longest body combo you have ever seen

He appears to be potty trained

He has a rough raspy bark that makes us laugh

He is good with people and dogs

He likes walks and is pretty good on a leash

He is a fan of cuddles

Winston moved into his new home today. In a world that can often feel full of anger and selfishness these days, we are grateful for the thoughtfulness and grace of an owner rehoming his pup, and the kindness and sensitivity of new adopters. The transfer was seamless thanks to all. Welcome home sweet Winston!

Another great example of the rule of 3s! Frosty (all white) came to us a bit shut down; scared and unsure. After about three days, with the care and patience of his foster family, he is bounding around with new buddies. It takes time. We expect to be seeing even more of Frosty's personality in the coming three weeks. Go Frosty go!
