Want to keep our dogs smiling? We could use a little help with some dental bills. Several of our rescue dogs are seniors, or strays who haven't received the nutrition and care needed for healthy teeth. We want to give them the smiles they deserve because of the endless smiles that they give us ☺️

He’s here! Picked up our little senior squirrel - er - pup today. He is as sweet as can be and definitely has a pep in his step. Gandalf stoically tolerated a bath and then wanted all the belly rubs. He’s now sleeping soundly in a cozy crate. Pretty in pink! Our little Whitney is still looking for her person. She’s an absolute gem. She’s around 5 or 6, potty trained, 8 lbs of Snugglebug. Gets along with other dogs but we think she would thrive in a home where she has your whole heart all to herself 💕www.hairofthedogrescue.pet

Considering adoption? Yay! What a fantastic decision! We would like to suggest a few other things to consider before making the leap. It's kind of shocking how many dogs get returned within just a day or two after being adopted. Not only is this difficult for the rescue/shelter to navigate, it's really damaging to a poor creature who has already experienced some trauma. So we'd like to remind you of the rule of threes (it's accurate!!) And ask you, before you get caught up in the fuzzy ears, wet noses, and wonderfully quirky personalities, please also think about:

* Do you have the time, space, and resources for the type and
size of dog you are interested in?
* Are there common personality traits, medical issues, etc that
are associated with the type of dog you like?
* Do some research on the breed(s) you are drawn to. Does their
energy level match yours? Are they compatible with your
lifestyle?
*Do some prep work! Reach out to friends/family/dog
walkers/boarders/vets/ etc so you can be as prepared as
possible for the unexpected (a new job, a move, an illness...life
throws curveballs!)
*Work out your patience muscle. You're gonna need it! Even the
best of the best dogs experience stress, and a new home takes
time to settle into. The first few days WILL be hard. But it gets
better, and the ultimate rewards are beyond description.🙌

It was quite a day today…Loki and Lucky were adopted! They were so excited to meet their people that all we could get was a picture of their wagging tails 🥰
Rocky was returned by a first time adopter (due to unpredicted and severe dog allergies 😞) and then promptly re-adopted by a neighbor’s friend 😅 We’re exhausted but all pups and people are happy ♥️

*UPDATE: ADOPTED! 😁*Well…Rocky’s adopter, a first time dog owner, discovered he has a dog allergy resulting in some pretty sever asthma 😞 We are all a bit heartbroken. But this means that this little champ’s person is still out there!! He’s pretty close to perfect: 3.5 lbs, dachshund/chi mix, 2 months old, potty and crate trained. www.hairofthedogrescue.pet

We continue to marvel at the resilience of dogs. Despite coming from a rough situation and a couple of weeks in the shelter, Stanley is just the happiest little dude! The goofy haircut is due to some major matting, but it will grow back (although, we think he's cute either way!) We were told he's about 6, but he seems much younger, we'd say maybe 4? He will need help with training and manners, but he's exploding with love! He is available to adopt: www.hairofthedogrescue.pet

What better way to start off the new year than with Stanley! Meet our jolly new HOTDog. He came from a hoarding situation and needed quite the haircut to clean him up. Despite that, this 4-6ish(?) poodle mix is 15 lbs of goofy, friendly, happy energy. We’ll know more as he settles into his foster home so stay tuned!

We’d love to help this gorgeous girl! We saw Leva at Berkeley Animal Care Services and discovered she has limited time. She’s only one and volunteers have apparently fallen in love with her. Takes time to warm up so isn’t showing well at the shelter. Anyone out there want to help make her a HOTDog and give her the time she needs to thrive? [email protected]
