If you can't tell, Kobe loves volunteer Julie. This sweet senior pup is very spirited. Kobe loves to play as much as he loves to lounge, and he's always looking to give and receive affection. His adoption fees are also discounted through out Club Second Chance program!

Lucki is a somewhat shy one-year-old who is learning to love the outdoors through our Field Trip program! On some recent longer outings Lucki showed his social, active side by being a wonderful leash companion in a totally new environment, and cuddling up to his host's own dog! Lucki shows more confidence with every day, and is ready to meet his perfect match for the rest of life's adventures.

This Giving Tuesday, December 3, we’re asking you to consider a contribution on behalf of animals like Dexter.

Dexter, a stray puppy, was just five months old when he came through our doors. Right away we noticed his extraordinary powers to sleep through pretty much anything—which peaked our suspicions to further examine him. Our medical team confirmed it: Dexter was deaf.

Other shelters might see strays that require special needs as a burden. Not us. For the last 150 years we have provided individualized treatments and care to every animal we’ve met, and because of your support, we can keep this work going for the next 150 years. For Dexter, our staff used visual cues to aid his training and development. Through their patience he grew into a confident and playful puppy!

For those looking for a cuddly companion, senior pup Kobe is a dream. This active ten-year-old is a perfect playmate, both social and well-behaved. He does best with human friends and larger dogs, and redirects well when an unfamiliar creature crosses his path. Velvety Kobe is a glutton for scratches and pets, and will make sure to plop down close enough for both after playtime.

Cactus went through our Hisses to Kisses program, and the proof is in the purring! This male tabby was fearful upon arrival at our facility, but with patient training through one of our Hisses to Kisses fosters, transitioned to fear-free and gregarious! When Cactus' H2K foster recently visited him in his new home, he was still nothing but affectionate, with humans and dogs alike!

This year we've expanded education and training for our H2K fosters, who are helping us increase our capacity for working with shy and semi-feral kittens during kitten season. Socialization goes much faster in a home environment with the right training, and our Behavior & Training team makes sure that our H2K fosters have the latest techniques available at no cost to them.

Everyone deserves a second chance—and older animals are often calmer, more socialized, and more predictable than younger ones. The health benefits of adopting a senior companion are immeasurable.

Through our Second Chance adoption program, senior animals like Colonel Chance, Kobe, Kutie, and Cherry are able to head to their new homes with discounted adoption fees. Through our Seniors for Seniors program, senior adopters aren't required to pay any adoption fees when bringing home one of these friends.

Aptly named for her charming and sweet demeanor, Cherry may only have 3 legs, but that just means she has the same amount of love in a smaller package! At eight years old this fun-loving Husky has skills, manners, and a calming personality that is easy to fall in love with.
