Freckles may have had an unknown start in life, but his affectionate personality and charming demeanor have won over the hearts of everyone he meets. If you're looking for a loyal companion who will stick by your side through thick and thin, then Freckles is the perfect match for you.

We hear that today is National Craft for Your Local Shelters Day! What a great chance for us to share one of the ways that you can help us. If you've got sewing skills, we can always use hammocks for our kittens and cats. These provide a soft and comfy place to lounge, and open up more space in the condo for our feline friends. They're purrfectly sized for one adult cat or a cuddle puddle of kittens!

Instructions are on our website:https://www.oaklandanimalservices.org/wp-content/uploads/2009/09/cat-hammock-rev-2016-final.pdf

Or, if you're not so crafty and would still like to donate items that we can use, we've got wish lists on our website just waiting for you to check out: https://www.oaklandanimalservices.org/how-to-help/donate/other-ways-to-give/

Meet Gucci, our distinguished senior charmer! At 13 years young and 77 pounds, Gucci is still spry and full of love. This gentle giant might start walks a bit slowly, but once he finds his groove, he's all in for the adventure. His warm eye contact and easygoing rekenneling make him a joy to be around.

Gucci could use some TLC to help his hips stay strong, but his abundant energy and zest for life make him a fantastic candidate for a healthy journey. He's wonderfully calm around other dogs and has an incredibly sweet nature. Occasionally, you'll find him enjoying some cozy time under a bench, savoring his moments of tranquility.

Gucci is searching for a loving retirement home where he can bask in affection and comfort. If you’re ready to offer a cozy spot and endless love, Gucci is excited to meet you and become your loyal companion!

Curious and Independent Jarrett is looking for a hero - maybe it's you? This 5 year old pittie is social and he loves to explore and interact with his surroundings.

⭐Curious and Independent: At the beginning of his time outside, Jarrett loves to sniff and explore around the yard, showcasing his inquisitive nature.

⭐Responsive: He comes over when called, showing a balance between independence and attentiveness.

⭐Sociable and Gentle Treat Taker: Jarrett greets strangers politely and has a nice soft mouth when taking treats.

⭐Training in Progress: Jarrett knows "sit" and seems to know "lay down," though he may not always comply 100%, making training sessions fun and engaging.

⭐Moderate Puller: Jarrett pulls some on the leash but is learning to be redirected with treats.

Jarrett will thrive in a home as the only dog. He is a delightful mix of curiosity, independence, and sociability, making him a wonderful companion for those who enjoy a bit of a challenge in training and a dog who loves to explore.

Meet Jarrett this weekend at Oakland Animal Services! Thanks to , adoption fees are waived through July. A $17 dog license fee will apply for dogs adopted to Oakland residents.

UPDATE: TRANSFERRED TO A RESCUE PARTNER

Hello, I'm Asada! I'm a 1-year-old, 45 lb female Belgian Malinois mix. After being hit by a car, I needed a leg amputation, but now I'm fully recovered!

I'm incredibly affectionate and love staying close to my humans, especially when I get gentle chin rubs. I'm a fan of my crate and can comfortably stay alone for up to 8 hours. I thrive in a quiet home with a yard, as loud noises and busy streets make me anxious.

I need a patient adopter experienced with fearful dogs to help me feel safe and secure. I get along well with other calm, gentle dogs, but rough play overwhelms me. My ideal foster or forever home includes one confident, but gentle dog in an adult-only environment. Young children may not be suitable, but respectful teenagers are okay!

Adopters may need to meet me more than once to get a good sense of my personality. If you have a peaceful home and a big heart, we could be the perfect match!

Meet Asada at Oakland Animal Services during our adoption hours: Thursday noon-7, Friday-Sunday noon-3. Adoption fees are waived through July thanks to . A $17 dog license fee will apply for dogs adopted to Oakland residents.

UPDATE 7/20: Michelle and Rosanne have been adopted. Sandra and Heather are still available!

Are you a fan of girl kittens? Do you like your kittens a little bit spicy? Have we got some pairs for you! This fabulous foursome are littermates, and while each bonded pair has come a long way in building confidence, they're still going to need some "finishing school" in their new homes. Maybe that's with you? Are you patient and cat experienced and ready to see what these gorgeous girls can turn into with the safety and security of a new home and a gentler guardian?

White & black Sandra is the most confident, sure to be the first kitten to say hi while her shyer floofy tabico sister Heather hangs back until the toys and treats come out. But before long, both will be playing and accepting pets from kind visitors.

Rosanne, with her black and orange face and white belly is a bit more shy than her more confident sis Michelle. Both will warm up when treats are on offer, and after a bit of time will melt into affection.

Meet bonded pairs Sandra & Heather and Rosanne & Michelle today and give them the home they need to blossom into confident adult kitties! During , adoption fees for all animals are waived through July!

We're open for adoptions Thursday noon-7, Friday-Sunday noon-3.

UPDATE: ADOPTED
Confident tabico (tabby + calico) Jemma is a lot of cat - chatty, active, and friendly!

She's lived with small humans in a previous home, but it wasn't a good match; Jemma wasn't a fan of the grabby hands of toddlers. For everyone's safety and sanity, we're recommending that Jemma go to a home with no young children. Adults and cat-savvy older kids are Jemma's jam - she's ready to accept all the love and attention that you can give!

Jemma is about a year old. Meet her at Oakland Animal Services during our open adoption hours: Thursday noon-7, Friday-Sunday noon-3. Adoption fees for cats are waived through July thanks to , sponsored by BISSELL Pet Foundation.

Are you looking for a compact canine companion, one who's equally comfortable hanging out on your lap or cohabitating with your resident small dogs? Well then, meet Edwin!

This little guy has blossomed in a foster home, going from being shy and shut down to increasingly friendly and confident! He even adjusted quickly to an overnight stay with a different foster, quickly warming up to the human residents (thanks, in part, to the tasty treats they offered) and won over the prickly pup of the house as well!

The ideal home for Edwin would have no small children, and experienced guardians who can continue to build his confidence with the world. He'd love a canine buddy to go on walks and adventures together!

Edwin is just over a year old and weighs about 10 lbs.

To meet Edwin, submit an application to meet him by appointment: https://www.oaklandanimalservices.org/adopt/animal/?animalId=20493822

UPDATE: ADOPTED

When they first arrived at the shelter, bonded sisters Rio and Autumn were pretty nervous. After all, they'd just lost the only home they'd known since they were kittens, through no fault of their own. Now about a year old, Rio and Autumn have found their voice and they're not afraid to use it! Come into their ward, and these two will be chattering and meowing away in hopes of getting some attention and affection. Tabby Rio is the more confident, but her tabico sister Autumn isn't far behind when it comes to seeking out love.

As a bonded pair we will only adopt Rio and Autumn together.
