On the day this filly was born it was raining like crazy outside. While I tended to the mare and filly with my daughters help they decided to name her rain. I loved the idea but thought we should spell it in a unique way. They picked out the spelling of Reine and we all loved it!! Little did we know Reine in French means the queen❤️ How perfect! This herd is super fun to watch… because they’re perfectly happy. All 8 pile into one shelter & co-mingle with zero drama. 𝘈𝘭𝘭 𝘮𝘢𝘳𝘦𝘴 + 𝘭𝘪𝘭’ 𝘮𝘢𝘯 𝘎𝘶𝘯𝘯𝘦𝘳.⁣

I pride myself on building this type of herd— because we think it’s so helpful for building up their minds ⁣

The matriarchs have firm boundaries but their fair leadership creates a sought after calmness, respect & ability to cope with a life of experiences.⁣

Sometimes we have a punk kid (typically a recent gelding who was given a chance at being stallion-worthy)… who needs to go with a more dominant herd. The big guns Annie, Timber & mules help out here 😝

Many of our customers have beginners in their family. As such, an important question we’ve helped them sift thru, 𝐢𝐬 𝐰𝐡𝐚𝐭 “𝐛𝐞𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐧𝐞𝐫 𝐬𝐚𝐟𝐞” 𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐲 𝐦𝐞𝐚𝐧𝐬. ⁣ ⁣ At 8D, it means that they’re a nanny. But also, highly developed & athletic for experienced riders to enjoy, too.⁣ ⁣ Our beginner horses have 𝐫𝐞𝐠𝐮𝐥𝐚𝐫𝐥𝐲 partnered (under our greater team’s guidance) with kids/adults who are learning & who are not yet strong, confident leaders themselves. ⁣ ⁣ 𝘞𝘦 𝘸𝘦𝘳𝘦 𝘢𝘭𝘭 𝘰𝘯𝘤𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘦.⁣ ⁣ An 8D beginner horse:⁣ ⁣ ✔️turns to the human for leadership in unfamiliar (or scary) situations, not the herd or “flight” drive.⁣ ⁣ ✔️has been taught to problem solve (what cue is this kiddo trying to ask me?— oh got it, let me show her!). Friday we learned we had a cooled Stevie semen contract. Saturday, our most favorite vet got us in for a check. Sunday we’re on the collection list. There’s only one vet in Utah we’d trust with this very special cross & thats Dr Barbour at @mountainpointequinehospital Crossing our fingers & toes our ol gal Wilma blesses us one more time.

This gorgeous filly, Sheeza Smoke Show, is by @highbrowcd & out of our Playgun daughter. Statistically, an exceptional cross. We’re excited about her as a cowhorse prospect ❤️

2 years ago today, Sully & Wilma came home from @mountainpointequinehospital … our winters are rough up in the Utah mountains so we’re always appreciative of the care Sammy/Lyle & team give until the foals can safely come home.⁣ ⁣ We only have one foal coming this year (x Dual Smart Rey) & we’re taking another year breeding break.⁣ ⁣ It gives us the opportunity to start our 8 yearlings & thoughtfully analyze our breeding program, mares & stallions. ⁣ ⁣ 𝐈𝐧 𝐚𝐧𝐲 𝐛𝐮𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬, 𝐠𝐫𝐨𝐰𝐭𝐡 & “𝐛𝐮𝐢𝐥𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠” 𝐝𝐨𝐞𝐬𝐧’𝐭 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐦𝐞𝐚𝐧 𝐚 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐮𝐨𝐮𝐬 𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐞. 8D "eighty" Ranch is the number of acres both owners have individually. 80 acres in Wisconsin, plus 80 acres in Utah. "D" also represents Diamonds, as in the quality of horses we offer.

It doesn't matter where the diamond is from or what kind of diamond it is (in some cases our highly curated breeding program, in other cases, kill buyer auctions). They leave here shining. Brightly.
