The name "OK Collars" is actually courtesy of my friend Kara! I reached out to friends in pet forums to help me create a name for my custom pet collar business, providing them with my name and the name of my two fur babies for inspiration. Kara suggested OK Collars after Oliver, my big orange American Shorthair tabby cat and Kayla Dover, my Black Labrador Retriever - she pointed out that the name
had meaning, but was also easy to remember. She was right and her simple idea is one I never would have thought of myself! My pet crafting didn't begin with collars and didn't begin recently. For as long as I can remember and have been able to use a sewing machine, I've been making simple bandannas, not only for my pets but also for those of friends and family. My interest in pet crafting was recently rekindled when my family welcomed a new Labrador puppy in May of 2010. She is the third dog to be a part of my family and the second Lab. For 16 years, we were blessed to have Cuddles, our first Black Lab, in our lives. When she passed, our family was just not complete... and then Kayla Dover bounced into our lives! We were back to all the things that go along with raising a puppy, which includes crate training. This is where the crafting started: Kayla's puppy crate needed a bed or pad of some sort. So I set out on the internet to find simple sewing instructions for a pad type bed. After that I stumbled upon instructions for leashes, collars, accessory bags, toys... I made a couple of "fun" collars for Kayla and shared them on Facebook and pet forums and people raved over them! Before I knew it, I was getting requests! With a little encouragement, I decided I should sell my creations - so here we are! This is my first go at starting a business. I know I've got a quality product that people like and most importantly, I really enjoy making them! That was the easy part! Now, I'm in the early stages of getting the business end of things together. To start, collars are made-to-order: people request something specific and I make it for them. As my stock of supplies grows, I will have more to offer but will always custom make collars as closely as I can to customer requests! Thank you so much for stopping by my page and looking around! Please check back frequently as things get updated and as my business grows!
