My friend, Kelly Lyn Marquis, has written a book that is the best I have read as an inside look at our sport through the eyes of our very best handlers (including her own eyes, of course). And I am not just saying that because she asked me to write the foreword.

If you are a handler at any level in our world of dog shows, you really should get this book and read it a few times. If you take it to heart, it will make you better, it will make you feel great about what you are doing and where you can be headed in our sport.

And it will help you understand about the bond between a handler and their dog, not just the physical stuff of training and showing the dog, but of the spiritual part of that relationship as well.

Enjoy. And Kelly, congratulations on being published!

Available now on Amazon.

At last Friday's National Dog Show Therapy Dog Symposium at Rowan University in Glassboro, NJ, I was flattered and honored to be joined once again by my friends, Josephine DeAngelis, president of Angel On A Leash, and Steve Kramer, director emeritus.

In 2016, when I moved back to the West Coast, I reluctantly decided to dissolve Angel On A Leash after its 12-year run of helping people in need. My friend, Steve, asked if they could adopt the name and bring things back to life with their organization. I was thrilled to say yes.

They are doing great things. I am proud that they are keeping the name and the mission alive.

Angel On A Leash is based in Langhorne, PA (Bucks County). Please log in at this address to see what they are all about.

Caspian was the Afghan Hound in the group and I told his story, gave a shout out to the senior center from him, got this nice thank you note on FB from Beth Anne, his co-owner … Joanne knew the full story and made sure that I had it for the broadcast. Joanne wrote a column that I posted previously for her newspapers about our Newsmakers. She included the story about Caspian at the assisted living center in Illinois, where his original owner now lives, and used a photo of him “hugging” her, all that in the post of my FB.

From Beth Anne Hall on Facebook:
Thank you so much for recognizing Caspian’s love for all of his special people at the senior facility. His co-owner, Mary, was thrilled to see him on the broadcast and was delighted to hear David’s shout out to the residents at her assisted living. Sadly, Mary is in the hospital with pneumonia—but I know Joanne’s article will be so appreciated when her daughter shares it in the morning. Thank you from the bottom of my heart ❤️.png

Here is how Joanne wrote it for her column:

Canine Comfort: Caspian, a dazzling Afghan Hound won Best of Breed. David Frei gave an NBC shout-out to the Illinois assisted living where Caspian visits because residents there- especially Mary Bass, his original owner- would surely be watching the National Dog Show. After Mary entered assisted living, Caspian was embraced by his breeders Beth Anne and David Hall of Haymarket, IL , and began his show career like a dynamo. When possible, Caspian visits Mary. He actually jumps up on his hind legs and hugs her in her wheelchair. He also entertains the residents who have become some of his biggest fans.

Caption for the picture: Caspian, Best of Breed Afghan Hound at the National Dog Show, as he hugs his former owner, Mary at a visit to an Illinois assisted living.

Joanne Anderson, one of my star researchers for years through Westminster and the National Dog Show, wrote her latest "Dogs, Dogs, Dogs" column about our Newsmakers, which she, Tracey Monahan and Terri Cude worked so heard to pull together. You saw their work in some of my previous posts.

This is a great look at some of these great dogs. By the way, her column has appeared in the Babylon Beacon, the Amityville Record and the Massapequa Post over the last 40 years.

The 2023 National Dog Show has been aired on NBC, so I can “spill the beans” about some of the great background stories of the entered dogs that we had been compiling as Newsmakers before the show. In a two-hour broadcast, it’s difficult for David Frei or John O’Hurley to fit in anecdotal in...

Meet the Bullmastiff: Guardians with a Hollywood Touch 🎬

Bullmastiffs are known for their formidable presence, but did you know they've also made their mark in Hollywood?

Not only have they captured the hearts of movie buffs, but even music sensations like Christina Aguilera have embraced the charm of the Bullmastiff. Their loyal and loving nature makes them wonderful companions for celebrities and families alike.

But beyond their star-studded associations, Bullmastiffs have a rich history that dates back to the mid-19th century. British gamekeepers developed them to protect country estates from poachers, showcasing their incredible courage and protective instincts.

Stay tuned for more intriguing stories and insights into the world of Bullmastiffs and other remarkable breeds at the National Dog Show. 🏰🐾
