Annabee Wadsworth is a youth handler, who ran her first dog in a NAVHDA test this weekend. The judges nicknamed her Ice since she was so calm, like she had ice water running through her veins. Annabee and Ridgeviews Buster Von Grouse recieved a prize 1 112 today. Great job and I can't wait to see how you two do in Utility.

Congratulations Jaymisen Webb on your prize 1 NA with a score of 110. Ridgeviews Splash Maker is Jaymisen's first hunting dog, and he is a youth handler. Jaymisen thank you for putting a big smile on my face this afternoon. Thanks Rehbeccah Burkhart for the help you have given and getting this puppy in good hands.

I tried to make this post with music two times and got flagged for copyright issues. Sorry now you have to listen to my excited puppy voice. Ridgeviews Lose Control (Teddie) is at our place for a few days and since it was sunny and there is great puppy water in the local fields me and Teddie hit the ponds.

Had a Bosu ball out and the puppies loved it. If you have ever tried standing on one of these you would appreciate how hard it is.

Doing a little puppy retrieving had to be quiet since the rest were sleeping

NAVHDA Breed of the Week no. 23: Pudelpointer

Country of Origin: Germany

Number Registered with NAVHDA: 9,622

Height: 21-26 inches
Weight: 44-66 pounds

The Pudelpointer was developed in the late 19th century through the systematic breeding of 11 different German hunting poodles and 80 different pointers. The Pudelpointer was introduced to the US in 1956 by Bodo Winterhelt, one of the founding fathers of both NAVHDA in 1969 and the Pudelpointer Club of North America in 1977. Pudelpointers are widely recognized as excellent versatile hunting dogs with strong desire and style in both water and the field, and are generally intelligent, eager to please, cooperative, and friendly. Pudelpointers make excellent family companions but, like all versatile dogs, they are high-energy dogs that require vigorous daily exercise.

Craig Koshyk www.dogwilling.ca

Currently NAVHDA recognizes 30 different breeds of pointing dogs. While each breed differs somewhat with respect to their physical characteristics, they all possess the versatility required to locate, point, and retrieve upland game, find and retrieve wounded waterfowl, and serve as well-mannered companions.

Spotlight Dog – Cedarwoods Comfortably Numb – “Lido” NA 112 / UT 204

Lido’s owner reports says:

“Lido was the recipient of many great traits passed on from his mother, Prairie Trout's Rambunkous. He hits the ground with an intensity that is infectious, a drive that is always looking to the next hill or piece of cover, and a gait that makes it all look effortless. He hunts with such enthusiasm and joy, it's easy to catch yourself smiling while busting cover. Whether it's sharptail, pheasant, huns, or desert quail, his point is always with quivering intensity. Take one look at his mother's water entry, and it's easy to see where Lido gets it from. There is nothing gentle about it, only a 55lb missile being launched at Mach Ten. Would it be easier to test a dog that doesn't land fully submerged at each duck search and marked retrieve? Probably, but that wouldn't be as entertaining. He enjoys stealing every retrieve possible, and tends to flaunt his prize when delivering to hand. On the flip side is a dog that is the most pathetically lazy indoor critter you've ever seen. Good luck prying him off his dog bed. And if there is a human nearby, he is either sitting on their feet or curling into their lap. A COVID puppy that grew up in my wife's home office, I know he's not really my dog, but I carry the gun so he reluctantly leaves my wife at home for our trips. “

The highest compliment we have heard of Lido comes via his breeder, Tim Ploog, who says that Lido is probably the best hunting dog he has seen. As for hunting, Lido begins the season in late September near the Canadian border and hunts nearly seven days a week, straight into February, ending up near the Mexican border! That is how you build a wild bird gundog!

Michael Gill sent this to me this evening. Thanks Michael for all the work you put into this pup.

Today was Oregon’s youth waterfowl season. Grandson wounded a teal. We waited an hour or so. Sent the dogs over where it went on land. Ruegr locked up and pointed it. Dacsh went in and pushed it back to the water. I sent Ruegr after it and he lost it from diving. They both look for five minutes and Dacsh comes back with it to hand. Ridgeview Pudelpointers for the win. Plus he sat in the blind today for the first time and not a peep out of him.
