There seems to be a brighter light shed on abusive training and handling of horses in the upper levels than I remember ever seeing in the past. I remember a TB breeder who hoarded and starved more than 100 thoroughbreds on her property with no real consequences despite mine and several others relentless efforts. In the 40+ years I’ve had horses in my life I’ve witnessed the best and worst in humanity. It’s a very sad reality that horses around the world of all breeds and disciplines suffer at the hands of the humans responsible for their care.

Not all cherish the precious gift that horses are to us. Horses helped me raise my wonderful kids and helped instill responsibility, tenacity, courage, confidence, perseverance, being a team player and the list goes on and on. I am forever grateful to the horses who have touched our lives. They deserve kindness, respect, empathy, understanding, and to make sure they are as comfortable as possible always!

With that said, there are so many amazing horsemen and women out there that truly put in the effort, care and love. They treat their horses with the highest level of care and the kindest methods of training. These are people that are always asking themselves “what is he/she trying to say?” They are creative and willing to be patient and move at the horses pace, not their personal timeline. Horses are humbling, these people are not too proud to be humbled by them.

I want us to celebrate those people! Let’s spread some light! Who are the horsemen and women that inspire you with their exemplary horsemanship?
