Hi there, I’m Colleen. Before I was hired at the Hsmc I witnessed a horrible case of animal neglect.A couple of years later I decided to take a chance to work at an animal shelter. I saw they had a cruelty department at the Hsmc . I applied for a position at the shelter. I saw some of the cruelty cases and I saw hope in their eyes. That’s when I realized that I wanted to be a shelter vet tech. So I worked my way up to intake, kennel cleaner and adoption counselor, on my spare time I helped the vets and vet tech at the shelter. Eventually, my coworkers saw my potential . One of the cruelty investigations asked if I wanted to be on the cruelty team . I thought about and I declined to the position. I asked to be on the vet tech team because I knew that I would make a difference on outcomes in the animal’s life. Especially when you see an animal at the lowest point of their life. Of all the neglect and cruelty, I still saw the hope in the animals eyes when they see the care and the kindness of humans. They saw that we are not all bad humans . Then I started seeing them get better, happier and then finding them a loving home .

Hey Y’all! My name is Becca, I am 21 years old and I have been working at the clinic for around 10 months now! In my free time, I am surrounded by family, friends, and of course my fur babies. At a young age I knew I belonged in Veterinary Medicine, small or large. In high school, I was given the opportunity to shadow a local vets office and on day one I knew I was going down that path that was made for me! As a CVA, we are here to provide your pet with the care and love they deserve. They hold a special place in your heart as well as ours. This is why we do it!

Hey there my name is Taylor! I chose vet med because I grew up with the love of animals and have always told myself since I was a little kid that I was going to work in the field. A little bit about myself is of course I love animals, and I have a few myself. I have a Rottie, a devious dachshund and a cat. I also showed cows and pigs when I was in FFA.

Hi, my name is Cortney. My love for animals started at a young age. I grew up on a small farm in Ocala. We had dogs, cats, horses, goats, pigs, cattle, and chickens. I used to love being anywhere near animals. I took care of all the animals, but the dogs and horses were always my favorites. One day, a veterinarian came to geld one of our horses. I watched the whole process and was immediately intrigued. I wanted to be in the veterinary field when I grew up. I couldn't be happier to be in this field caring for all the sick/injured animals. I have a special place in my heart for abused, fearful, and aggressive animals. I have worked with a multitude of these types of animals, and it always brings a smile to my face when I get to see them turn around.

My name is Jake, and I have been a vet tech for about three years now. Out of all the jobs I have worked, being a vet tech has to be the most rewarding job. I get to help animals in need, show clients the proper way to treat and care for them, and see patients grow from puppies. It is one of the best feelings in my line of work.

Hey there I am Shilo! I have an extensive background working with animals, having grown up on a large horse farm in South Africa. I have been fortunate to work in various animal-related fields, including contracting with the USAF to fly falcons, hawks, and owls for bird abatement purposes.

I began my career as a kennel technician and quickly advanced to working as a veterinary technician, where I discovered my true calling. Helping animals is incredibly fulfilling work that brings me great satisfaction.

Hey! My names Selena, and life’s kinda crazy. Being a veterinary technician is one of the most fulfilling jobs, from caring for animals to comforting their humans. I’ve always loved the field and wanted to be apart of it in any way I could, so in high school I started a veterinary assistant course (one of the best decisions I ever made). The rest is history! It’s not an easy job so make sure to thank all your technician friends and family!

As most kids when we were younger, we all wanted to be paleontologists. I knew I wouldn’t be able to work with real life dinosaurs so I chose the next best thing which was to work with dogs and cats. Fast forward to my junior to senior of high school I started off as a kennel tech and then learned that animals need a lot more care and advocation than I realized. So I wanted to help get that across to get them the care that they need.

For me it wasn’t just taking care of the animals whether they were sick or well, it was also educating the owners of the ins and outs as well as teaching them what caring for that extended family member was all about. As much as a lot of techs say they don’t want to work on people and prefer animals, you can’t really work on animals without the love of those owners.
