Hey y’all. I’ve kinda been quiet in this page for a few months but I’m still here taking care of my horses and clients horses and barns.
There has been more activity on my page in the past two days with random likes and messages from BOTs
I’m going to try to be more active and hope hackers don’t attack my page.

Hurricane Prep….

Well now that we have moved across country and June 1st is upon us, it’s time for some hurricane prep for the horses.

Here we will have warning of an impending possible evacuation from a hurricane so there will be a little more time to get the horses ready. Wild fire, we had little to no warning.

I have extra halters and lead ropes ready (you never know when you’re going to run across a loose horse).

Sharpies are a permanent staple in my barn kit. I write my phone number on one of their hooves and their name on the other.

First aide kit ready with some gauze, vet wrap and the wound car products you use.

I created a mane tag (from a luggage tag) that I have
🔺My name and number
🔹Horses name
🔸Barn address
🔻Their feed
I put a single braid in their mane then secure the tag in the mane with electrical tape. I use bright tags so that it is noticeable when they are found in the event they have to be turned loose and let go.

The trailer would be stocked with fresh hay for a few days along with their grains and supplement.
My trailer had a stand up water tank but keep a few 5 gallon jugs with lids handy and fill they up if we needed to leave.

Hooking up to your trailer in a hurry can be tricky…..you can easily get mad at yourself for not catching the ball on the first back up attempt and then start to get flustered. Practice this!!! Put yourself in a hurry or have a barn mate or friend start yelling at you or turn up the music loud to try and distract you. Catch your ball, release it and do it again.

Make sure your horses LOAD!!!! Practice!!! Create some noise and distraction for them. Best thing for them is for you to try and remain as calm as possible.
I have found that horses that don’t like to load or have bad habits at the doors/ramp of a trailer can be lead in my putting a towel over their eyes. Use a towel and tuck it under the cheek pieces of the halter and cover their eyes. Practice this as well. Talk to the horse and stay calm.

Taking care of others horses

I have been taking care of clients horses for over 17 years now. As the primary care giver and owner of a small private boarding facility in So Cal, I have always been a “Hands On” type of person. Staying busy and taking care of things keeps me young……or I keep telling myself that! So with our relocation and not having our private farm yet has lead me to start my farm/horse sitting business here in ocala.
I like to watch and learn each horse in my care and get to know them. How they eat, how they move, how they interact with other horses and people, are the escape artist or like to be mischievous? Understanding their personalities and their habits is key to caring for them.
Taking care of a new clients horse is always an adventure. In a way I feel like I’m always learning something new because each horse is so different and what works for one may not work for another horse.
Trust is such a vital part of care taking, the horse and owner have to trust me 100% and I will strive to earn and keep that trust.
I treat each horse like it was my own. They can’t feed and take care of themselves so it’s up to us to provide the best care possible.

Horse sitting care packages-

Standard Visit incudes
🔹Set up and drop AM/PM feeds

Base rate is $50.00 per visit for up to 2 horses. $10 per each additional horse

Depending on amount of farm visits scheduled for the daily, AM feedings can occur between 6am-830 and PM feedings can occur between 5-7

A little bit about me
I have been around horses for as long as I can remember. Horse are in my blood.
I’ve been riding and taking care of horses for over 25+ years. Started riding in Melbourne Florida then relocated with family to Southern California where my passion was reignited. I decided then, that my life would never be without horses.
In 2006 my husbands and I bought a ranch and opened up a small boarding and training facility. Specializing in Gymkhana/ Barrel racing. I love the speed and agility of these types of horses. Boarding, training, showing, competing, vetting and making new and life long friends has been amazing all because of horses!
Fast forward to today, back in my home state of Florida as of 2022. My horses and family have crossed the county yet again for semi retirement. With our horses settled into their new barn/pasture farm I have decided to get back to work and help other horse owners care for their horses.
If you’re looking for help horse sitting, feeding and basic care of your horses so you can escape on a vacation, hit up some overnight shows or you yourself are laid up for a bit please consider me.
I will be working on a references post and well as Services Provided, but first I’ll be heading to the barn to love on and ride the horses

New to Ocala, but not Florida.
