I think I'll make some of these up to hand out to the unhoused people standing on the corners with dogs by their side. πŸ₯°

Considering the upcoming Holiday I thought I'd post some tips on traveling with dogs. Feel free to add to this.
1 A Crate is really important. They save dogs lives in accidents. Helps contain dogs in accidents. Lets you stop at rest areas w/o worrying that the dog may get into anything or slips out of the vehicle when you are getting in or out. First Responders need to get to you first and if your dog is in shock and not contained.. well, I don't want to go there. Crates on the other hand can be grabbed by First Responders and removed from immediate danger.
2) Name tags on the collar.. with 2 different phone numbers
3) Microchip your dog (I use one that you only have to pay for once. My girls are on AKC REUNITE.) Use a primary and secondary contact when setting up the account.
4) The dogs mat... (if it has had mat training.)
5) I bring two crates.. a hardside roped down for inside the car and a popup for inside where we sleep.
6) water from home
7) dog food
8) treats
9) If staying with others be respectful of their home. It is ok for the dog to stay in its crate during meals or gatherings.
10) Cooked turkey bones are dangerous. After deboning the turkey take the carcass OUT to an enclosed garbage can.
11) Onions are bad for dogs so skip giving the dressing if
it has onions.
12) Sweet potatoes are great for pups.
13) Fluffy towels/blankets/rugs for inside the crates. It will be getting cold if you are Up North.
14) Remember your 'tricks' on a great recall.
15) Orange vest or scarf - it's hunting season
16) Your dog doesn’t need to be loose when the gathering first starts. Wait until folks arrive and get settled in.
17) Carry a dog Emergency First Aid kit in your car (Chewy or Amazon sells them).
18) It's impolite to let dogs jump on others. Remember that elderly have paper thin skin.

Anyone else have ideas?

Need someone to help clean up your Thanksgiving leftovers? We're sure we have someone who can help! πŸ¦ƒπŸ‚

We are looking for foster families who are willing to welcome our animals into their homes during Thanksgiving for our first annual "Home for the Holidays" program!

VOCAL provides all supplies needed for your foster guest like food, leash and collar, beds, litter box, etc. All you have to do is love on them for a few days! This provides the animals with a much-needed break from the stressful life of the shelter and allows our adoption team to learn how they act in a home! Not to mention, they will get to experience the holidays in a loving home for possibly the first time!

You can pick up your furry guest on Tuesday 11/26 and they can return to us Saturday 11/30 (unless you fall in love)!

If you would like to participate in our Home for the Holidays program, please submit a foster profile on our website at vocalforpets.org, email us at [email protected], or call our office at (352)289-0800!

Wishing you all a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday!! I'm so very grateful for you. πŸ₯°

In memory of some sweet clients that have crossed the Rainbow Bridge the past couple of months. Even though not MY furbabies, they were special to me and I will miss them very very much! πŸ₯°πŸ˜ͺ🌈
