For us the purpose of breeding is not to produce show winners. Our purpose is strictly preservation.

We breed for a pet market first and foremost so temperment is critical.

We are attempting to develop our own line with type and structure similarity and consistency. In addition we breed to improve the health of our line which is absolutely crutial to the breeds future existance.

We are not collecting every curly we can get our hands on nor are we collecting 20 different pedigrees. We are focused on our goal using limited lines to achieve it. Therefore we are familiar with what our dogs are capable of producing, both the good and the bad.

Winning in the show ring is merely a confirmation of the quality of our breeding stock. However, if we never win another ribbon it will not change what we know to be the origonal unchanged breed. We have had great litters and others not so great. We have sold entire litters as pets on limited registration or retained all breeding control. We also do not breed the one or two good dogs in an otherwise unhealthy litter.

Preservation is not keeping all show prospects or allowing only certain persons in a clique to use the sires.
Preservation is creating and distributing quality and good health throughout the breed.

Preservation seems to be a word used as lip service to please puppy buyers. Next time you see the term "preservation", ask yourself is it really a preservationist with goals to preserve our breed or is the breeder just using the term as a front to make themselves more respected and to sell puppies.

A true preservationist focuses on temperment, soundness and health. They are open and honest about their lines and in disclosing health issues. They breed with purpose from select dogs whos pedigree they know about. They are also willing to share their good dogs with others in the fancy or coming into it.

At Tyneside our goal is not about winning in the ring. It is about creating and leaving behind a line that is breed characteristically correct, sound and healthy.
