Yellowstone fans that are real horse people got a little confusing information on the Sunday, November 17, 2024 episode. This popular show appears to take pride in its western production on being very authentic - yet some how they had a BIG mistake with treating a horse with intramuscular Banamine.

What is the BIG deal? In this Yellowstone episode a horse was administered Banamine (Flunixin Meglumine) intramuscularly. Yet the nonsteroidal, anti-inflammatory is only administered orally (in the mouth) or intravenously (in the vein). Remember Banamine is never recommend to be administered to horses any other way.

Why not? Banamine causes muscle damage when injected intramuscularly! There are spores of bacteria known as clostridium that can rest in healthy muscle; however, the bacteria may awaken if the muscle becomes damaged from an IM injection particularly when Banamine is administered this way. This may cause clostridial myositis - which is a serious and sometimes fatal disease. Post injection signs of a problem would be swelling and a painful injection site with gas underneath the skin. The bacterial toxins may migrate into the bloodstream causing depression, colic, fever and a lose of appetite. Treatment by a licensed DVM is necessary if you make this mistake. Supportive care, antibiotics, and possibly a surgical excision of the infected injected site may be necessary.

This episode of Yellowstone was a good reminder - what is entertaining may not always be real and correct. Check with your equine veterinarian if you are unsure how to administer Banamine.

Spot on šŸ’„
If you can't afford to light the money on fire šŸ”„ DO NOT ENTER šŸ’„

Here is what I have to say about entry feesā€¦ if you cannot afford to light the money ON FIREā€¦ donā€™t spend it. Itā€™s literally all gambling.

Now, you can be sad about lighting it on fire lol. I have been sad. šŸ¤£ But paying to play for those big checks is literally no different than playing high stakes pokerā€¦ except you have to pilot another brain and hope they are feeling as confident as you that day. šŸ˜…

We ALL start from the bottom, there was definitely a time I couldnā€™t fathom entering a slot race, and now I have entered 4, won one and was reserve at another. Prior to that I was $10k in the hole!

The great thing about barrel racing is there is a place for everyone and a place for everyone to move up.

Nothing happens overnight. What you see today is 15+ years in the making.

If you canā€™t afford to enter some of those races, just be patient and keep working towards your goals. Invest your money in good bred horses and other businesses. As a general rule, this is a hobby for 90% of people. Just like fishing.

If youā€™re trying to make money in horses, then you will dang sure be happy that the prices are going up when youā€™re on the right end of it. Time passes anyways. Make the most of it.

Hereā€™s some motivation for your Friday!

This one is for the supporters of the game.

The spouse, parent, friendā€”the person that the athlete, competitor or student looks up to and respects the most.

Your job is crucial.

If you have someone who turns to you, you have a big responsibility.

Your job is to push this person to believe in themselves and keep trying, even when the cards are stacked against them and it seems the tables will never turn.

When they have little faith, you might be the one God is using to give them the glimpse of hope that keeps them going.

Sometimes that is all it takes, just that little push, to help them try just one more time.

Is tough love necessary?

Absolutelyā€”this isnā€™t all butterflies and rainbows. Sometimes they need to hear things that are hard to take, but growth happens in the tough places. Just follow up with encouragement, let them know you believe in them.

Keep pushing when necessary and backing off when needed.

It isnā€™t your place to kill the dream God put in their heart.

Whether you are the competitor or the supporter, or bothā€¦ Letā€™s do our best to build up and not tear down.

Youā€™d be amazed what someone can achieve with a little confidence behind them!

A great reshare. šŸ’œ Itā€™s pretty easy in the horse business to get caught up ā€œkeeping up with the Jonesā€™ā€

Iā€™ll be the first one to tell you, I donā€™t think itā€™s right to resent people who have what you want, but donā€™t forget, you can finance dang near anything. What you see on the outside looking in, isnā€™t always what is.

That truck sure looks cool.... yea, well that $1,000 a month truck payment isnā€™t.

Recently, I sold one of my big trailers, and just ā€œdowngradedā€ to an older used 6 horse.

If you know me; when I get something on my mind... NOTHING can stop me! ā€œHurricane tunnel vision Triciaā€ is a real thing. šŸ¤£šŸ˜… What surprised me was how many people told me I was making a bad decision to sell it. ā€œYouā€™ll miss your smart tack!ā€ ā€œItā€™s reliableā€ ā€œyouā€™ll never have a nicer trailerā€ ā€œthatā€™s dumbā€ lol I heard it all! You know what kind of tack room Iā€™ll like? One with a revolving tack room door in my bada** barn Iā€™m paying cash for because I made sacrificeā€™s for the bigger picture! Steel is expensive right now guys! šŸ˜…

I found a used older 6 horse that is CLEAN!!! and will work just fine for driving around town.

My point in telling you this story is that it would have been easy for me to keep the trailer, it was nice, itā€™s paid for, and it has been a great trailer, but for my life situation right now, I was willing to sacrifice something I really liked for something I wanted more.

I have done the same with horses. When I had nice horses, I was willing to sacrifice them for something I wanted more and that is how I grew! As a person, as a trainer, and how I improved my life situation. One horse at a time. I usually DID NOT want to sell them, BUT... I had my eye on the prize! šŸ† Let me tell you guys, every-time I did, I was rewarded with nicer horses.

Donā€™t be held back by self imposed limitations.

Donā€™t hold on to weight that is drowning you.

Donā€™t get caught up ā€œkeeping up with the Jonesā€

YOUR TIME WILL COME.

Put your head down and work on what works for YOU! Donā€™t let people that arenā€™t living your life, rule your life.

ā¬‡ļøā¬‡ļøā¬‡ļø Where my new barn is fixing to go! šŸ¤©šŸ–¤
