Medical care and food are our biggest expenses. "BETSY"is a recent rescue, found on the streets, unable to see as her eyes were sealed closed from infection. Today, Betsy is feeling sooo much better.....a playful, adorable young kitten on her way to good health and with hope for a loving home.🩷🐾🐾 Adoption hours today and thru the weekend are 11-2:30. PLEASE DO NOT KITNAP KITTENS. Young kittens need their mom's care. She may be in the process of moving them. She may have left them to get food. Leave them be. Provide food and water and stay away. Kittens best chance for good health is to stay with mom for at least 6-7 weeks. At that time they can be safely trapped or rounded up and socialized to have a chance for caring homes. At that time mom can be trapped and SPAYED to prevent the birth of more kittens. Our rescue organizations thank you for reading this and for sharing. 😽 www.capeatlanticcats.com

SHARING.......Day 6 !

DAY 6: COMMUNITY CATS & OVERPOPULATION 🐾

In community cat colonies, just a few unfixed cats can turn into dozens very quickly.

That's why TNVR (Trap-Neuter-Vaccinate-Return) is so important:

✔ Stops reproduction
✔ Reduces fighting
✔ Improves overall health
✔ Stabilizes colony populations

And that little ear tip?

It tells everyone that the cat has already been through a TNVR program and doesn't need to be trapped again.

In the United States, an ear tip is a straight-line removal of the tip of the cat's left ear while the cat is under anesthesia during spay/neuter surgery. It's the universally recognized sign that a community cat has been fixed and vaccinated. Our picture doesn't show that because AI doesn't listen and our Volunteers are tired!

A feeder was told today by a public employee that it was wrong to feed the stray/feral cats....she was creating "havoc" in the community. The colony has been fed, TNR'd, friendly cats brought into rescue for several years. Had this not been done by feeders (volunteers,not paid, using their own $$ for food,travel,vet care), there would be hundreds of cats and real "havoc." It's not possible to teach compassion for life, either humans have it or they don't. It's not even possible to educate most humans on the benefits of TNR to communities. Cats are stray/feral because humans don't take responsibility to spay/neuter and abandon them. It's happening everywhere. Government officials and employees should be working FOR the people, and most people do not want cats killed when there is a humane solution. 😿

MOVING.....can't take the cats, so out on the street they go ! "BOOTS" didn't make it to the street. A kind neighbor noticed what was happening, intervened, and reached out for help. Boots was an indoor pet, taken in as a kitten. He is now one year old. He's a bit confused....what happened to my home?? Boots is now neutered, vaccinated, tested negative FIV/FELV and microchipped. He's a

DAY 5: KITTENS HAVING KITTENS 😿

Kittens can become pregnant as young as 4–5 months old.

Yes... kittens having kittens.

Their bodies aren't fully developed, which increases risks for:
⚠️ Pregnancy complications
⚠️ Illness
⚠️ Kitten mortality

Many people are surprised to learn that a kitten born in the spring can become a parent before the end of summer.

Early spay/neuter is safe, effective, and lifesaving.

The sooner we can prevent unwanted litters, the fewer kittens will be born into lives of uncertainty, illness, and homelessness.
