Meet Kira!

At first glance, we tend to guess what breed a dog is based on physical looks only. Most people would say Kira is a black German Shepherd but according to her DNA test Kira is 50% shepherd and 50% pit bull, 100% stunning! In fact, only a small percentage of a dog's genes actually determine its outward appearance. According to Embark, 14.8% of mixed-breed dogs tested by their service have American Pit Bull Terrier (APBT) ancestry!

Kira belongs to Dr. Walter, and has 2 other fur siblings (a Shepherd mix and a Chihuahua). Kira enjoys being out on the boat, soaking in the sunshine, and sugar cookies!

We would like to introduce to you, Ms. Pants!

Ms. Pants was a beloved fur baby of our own Dr. Bowman!

Here is what she has to say about this sweet girl: This was my first pittie mix - she was Pit bull and Chihuahua mix (among some other things with smaller percentages). Pulled from a shelter in Baltimore from their kill list by a rescue who we worked with to do their spays/neuters. She was 13 at that time, and she was mine from the first day I saw her. She loved getting dressed up, cuddles on the couch, and trips to the farm. She did not like nail trims or being by herself. 😂

Ms. Pants is another one of our fur babies who watches over us from across the rainbow bridge. She is missed! 🌈

We know, we cant help but smile when we see Rudy either.

Rudy has been coming to see us since he was just a few weeks old (weighing in at 15 pounds then) and he is a celebrity here. He loves his girlfriends but most importantly he loves his treats. Rudy is so goofy and truly brightens our day, we love him!

Pocket Pitties !

That's right, you read that correctly. Pocket - Pitty .. these girls weigh 45 pounds each. Bet you never knew pitties could be this small?! A common myth is that all pit bull dogs are giant, topping well over 80 pounds. However, this is untrue. The American Pit bull Terriers weight class is anywhere from 30 to 50 pounds.

This dynamic duo belongs to our Technician Supervisor, Toni. While they look like sisters (and they are) they in fact were rescued from different states and gave a 7 year age gap. Ironically, both remained pocket sized and perfect!

Dante here ready to spread some good news!

Dante belongs to our Veterinary Assistant, Madina and is bonded to his brother Tonka Toy, a shih tzu mix.

Dante wants everyone to know that pit bull type dogs have been making waves when it comes to being a dog with a job. Over the past few years pit bulls all over the country have been trained to be terrific service and therapy dogs! Most recently, they can also be found working in law enforcement detecting narcotics. The Throw Away Dogs Project is a program in East Tennessee that trains rescue pit bulls to become K9 officers. Fun fact: K9 Hansel was the first arson detection K9 pit bull in the United States!

Pit bull Awareness Month continues on!

Everyone meet Georgie! Where do we even start with this sweet boy. George stole the hearts of every single person in our hospital from the moment we met him as a little puppy. Once George recovered from a tough start he hit the jackpot with his adoptive family! George shares a home with two cat siblings and is a nature lover. This boy will sit in the sun all day! We love that his adopters keep in touch with us and we get to watch him grow!
