We are so excited to be hosting our "Health & Wellness with Horses" booth again this year at Super STEM Saturday on the California State University San Marcos campus! Our staff and volunteers will be sharing activities about appropriate foods for horses, what the term "hands" mean, and the biology that makes equestrian therapy so incredible. We'll also have an appearance by two special guests! πŸ˜‰

Visit or to learn more and we hope to see you on March 8th!

Folklore in the British Isles notes that fairy knots occur when the mane is twisted up into reins and stirrups so that the fairies can take horses on magical adventures during the night. It is no surprise that one of their favorites at the Ranch is our sweet Ardmore!

We are thinking of our communities to the north today as they deal with the unimaginable and hopeful our county will continue to be quiet and safe from fires through this weather event. Please contact our office if evacuations become necessary (760-722-4839). πŸ’šπŸ΄

San Diego is under a red flag warning, with an increased risk of fire due to Santa Ana winds. It's crucial to have an emergency plan for your family β€” including pets of all sizes. Create an emergency kit for your pet, including food, medication, water, bedding, toys and any other items to make them feel secure. Make sure your pets are wearing identification, including a collar with ID tag, even if your pet doesn't normally go outdoors. If your pet has a microchip, make sure your registered contact information is up to date. If there is a fire, evacuate early and don't leave your pets behind. Make a plan now for any large animals and livestock. Pets cannot fend for themselves during disasters and leaving them behind can risk their lives and the lives of rescuers. Bugsy knows you can’t compete with how lovely her coat is but she would like to encourage you to throw on a couple of layers, embrace that bed head fashion, and join us for Barn Buddies at 6am! We are mucking and feeding every day (except Saturdays….sleep in and join us at 7:30am!) and would love to see more volunteers.

It's Twelfth Night and so the holiday season officially comes to an end. πŸŽ„ We recently enjoyed a walk with the minis to visit the beautiful tree in front of the historic Mission San Luis Rey church and were fortunate to meet Fr. Ignatius, who joined us for a photo.

We hope everyone enjoyed the holidays celebrating with family and friends. We are looking forward to another fantastic year here at the Ranch with you! πŸ΄πŸ’š

Can you feel the Kenergy? πŸ΄πŸ’—

One of the highlights from 2024 was ending the year with all 28 of our horses either fully sponsored or co-sponsored! THANK YOU!

Are you interested? We still have four horses - Big Boy, Eeda, Little Bit, and Tia - who are looking for a co-sponsor. For $1,250 a year, you can help with supporting their basic needs while allowing the lesson income to provide for tack, therapeutic equipment, instructors, and facility maintenance and upgrades. Co-sponsors receive a professional photo with their horse, a plaque on the stall, acknowledgement on our website, and invitations to exciting sponsor-only events!

Visit https://iveyranch.com/sponsor-or-donate-a-horse/ -horse for more information.

Dear Santa,

These days, I carry so many important riders and I love helping them feel strong and empowered during their lessons. My favorite thing is watching them progress and being an integral part of that growth! I also help with volunteer training as I make sure that my side walkers don't wander too far towards my hip or I will smack them ever so gently with my tail. I also teach everyone to tighten my girth slowly or they will gain a new appreciation for the song "Baby Shark". As you can see, I am basically a saint.

For Christmas, I would love some "stirrup cages" that attach to my stirrups and help with my riders' foot position. I would appreciate some stall mats to share with Teddy to keep the Hideout clean and tidy, and I always enjoy my Better Belly supplement to help me stay healthy and comfortable. I should note that while I’m known around the barn as Princess J, I have no need of bonnets or other fashion accessories to make me look fabulous.

Love,
Jaacy

πŸ›‘πŸ›‘πŸ›‘ANNOUNCEMENT!πŸ›‘πŸ›‘πŸ›‘

The City of Oceanside will be repaving the whole of Ivey Ranch Park this weekend, December 21st and 22nd. As a result, we have cancelled all lessons on Saturday and Sunday. Barn Buddies will be a little different as we navigate not being able to cross the road between North Side and South Side so we would appreciate any extra help we can get to make this weekend go smoothly!

Since the City will be paving the road and the parking lot, parking will also look a little different and you will need to park across the street and walk over. Please review the map which shows where we will need to park and how to walk onsite during this construction. If you have attended or worked our Hoedown event, you will know that you can park in the dirt lot across the street from us on the other side of Rancho Del Oro Drive.

A few important things to know for the next couple of days:

1) Morning Barn Buddies will be from 6-8am and Afternoon Barn Buddies will be from 3:30-5pm (instead of our usual time 4-5:30pm).

2) You must be signed up on Sign Up Genius to volunteer for these shifts. This will help us make sure that we have enough volunteers to get everything done.

Thanks for your help! πŸ΄πŸ’š

Dear Santa,

Listen. You and I are both well aware of who I am and what I've done, and I'm not going to make excuses or promises that I can't keep. I hear people preaching about self-acceptance all the time and Santa, I'm there: I accept and love who I am and will change for no one.

I can't have been too naughty, though, because someone is sponsoring me for the first time this year. It's a Christmas miracle! I also got to move out to the pasture, which has done wonders for my social battery. Little Bit is there too....and I guess she's ok. I have Jaacy and Teddy as neighbors and get to visit with the horses in pasture, which I'm not going to admit is kind of cool.

Santa, if you would feel so inclined, I would love one or two stall mats to help keep my meal area tidy. I would also love a new pair of splint boots and a new hay bag. Did you know they are pretty fun to rip holes in? Consider that gift a two-fer!

If you see me on Christmas, don't say hello.

We are saddened to share the news that last month Board Member Luis Rodriguez, along with his dog, Luna, were killed in a car accident. His wife Nancy, also in the vehicle, sustained major non-life threatening injuries. The tragedy was senseless and has left us bereft.

Luis came to know Ivey Ranch through volunteering on site with several "Rotary at Work" projects. He then came forward noting his support of our organization, the horses, and the programs, and submitted his application for the Board of Directors in February of 2023. He made several significant contributions during his tenure, including helping with the north barn drainage project last winter, sponsorships and contributions to the 2023 and 2024 Western Hoedown, and assisting with the current Hay Barn and Care Center expansions. His most enjoyable contribution was the weekly carrot delivery he made every Wednesday to his sponsored horse, Ardmore - and Ardmore's 28 friends. The herd was always happy to see his truck arrive!

Luis was a man of action and his absence will sadly ripple through many of our projects and fundraisers. More than that, our friend and Ivey Ranch champion has been tragically taken. Please keep Nancy in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
