Dear Santa,

Listen. You and I are both well aware of who I am and what I've done, and I'm not going to make excuses or promises that I can't keep. I hear people preaching about self-acceptance all the time and Santa, I'm there: I accept and love who I am and will change for no one.

I can't have been too naughty, though, because someone is sponsoring me for the first time this year. It's a Christmas miracle! I also got to move out to the pasture, which has done wonders for my social battery. Little Bit is there too....and I guess she's ok. I have Jaacy and Teddy as neighbors and get to visit with the horses in pasture, which I'm not going to admit is kind of cool.

Santa, if you would feel so inclined, I would love one or two stall mats to help keep my meal area tidy. I would also love a new pair of splint boots and a new hay bag. Did you know they are pretty fun to rip holes in? Consider that gift a two-fer!

If you see me on Christmas, don't say hello.

We are saddened to share the news that last month Board Member Luis Rodriguez, along with his dog, Luna, were killed in a car accident. His wife Nancy, also in the vehicle, sustained major non-life threatening injuries. The tragedy was senseless and has left us bereft.

Luis came to know Ivey Ranch through volunteering on site with several "Rotary at Work" projects. He then came forward noting his support of our organization, the horses, and the programs, and submitted his application for the Board of Directors in February of 2023. He made several significant contributions during his tenure, including helping with the north barn drainage project last winter, sponsorships and contributions to the 2023 and 2024 Western Hoedown, and assisting with the current Hay Barn and Care Center expansions. His most enjoyable contribution was the weekly carrot delivery he made every Wednesday to his sponsored horse, Ardmore - and Ardmore's 28 friends. The herd was always happy to see his truck arrive!

Luis was a man of action and his absence will sadly ripple through many of our projects and fundraisers. More than that, our friend and Ivey Ranch champion has been tragically taken. Please keep Nancy in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

2024 has given us so much to be grateful for!

🤠 450+ attendees to our 14th Annual Western Hoedown in October.

🤸‍♂️ 965 clients supported by three services in 10 different programs.

🥇 1,030 volunteers that gave approximately 23,235 hours of service.

🎶 36 volunteers that worked at 26 concerts and helped raise $36K for horse feed.

🎉 Keeping expenses and overhead down so that 96¢ of every dollar is invested directly into programs.

📸 Donor and volunteer photographer, Andrew Thoresen, who has captured the most terrific pictures of our Sponsors, Clients, and Programs.

💚 87 staff members.

🐴 29 horses and 5 barn cats. 🐱

🐴 Celebrate the holidays with our annual Ho-Ho-Horse Photos fundraiser at Ivey Ranch Park on Sunday, December 8th! 🎀

Wear your holiday best, or your ugliest sweater, and take photos with one of our horses in Santa or elf tack. 🎅 Your holiday photos will go towards purchasing Cascada Automatic Horse Waterers. At the same time, you get to create another lasting memory from 2024! We welcome you to enjoy our hot chocolate bar and cookies while you wait for your photo session. 🍵

🎄 Sessions will be scheduled every 30 minutes from 2:00-4:00PM. Photos will be taken on a first-come, first-served basis during the session. Participants must be registered in advance to reserve a time slot. Drop-ins may be available day of but are not guaranteed. ⛄

Saturdays are always extra busy around the Ranch and this amazing group, the Poway Awesome Ladies Book Club, took on the task of painting the fence around our track in the midst of lessons. Our riders enjoyed saying hello as they rode past and we appreciate the hard work that goes into keeping our sensory track looking so great! Thank you! 💚🐴

🎉 CONGRATULATIONS to Irene Diggs, our 2024 Volunteer of the Year! 🎉

Please join us in congratulating Irene Diggs on being selected as the Volunteer of the Year for 2024 at Ivey Ranch. Irene has been an amazing and steadfast volunteer since 2018. She works with the horses, our learning and counseling programs, engages in outreach and fundraising, writes grants, and volunteers as a Board member. Irene always has a beautiful smile on her face and she is an ideal representative of Ivey Ranch Park.

Irene was recognized on Friday, November 1, at the North County Philanthropy Council’s Volunteer of the Year celebration. Stay tuned for an on-site celebration in January! 🐴💚
