Hello everyone, update time!
I am over a month late to posting this (𝘸𝘩𝘰𝘰𝘱𝘴!) but my first group* of new breeder rats have FINALLY arrived! 3 bucks and 2 does, who are being added to the website.
Sadly, the rats picked up SDAV (𝘢𝘬𝘢, 𝘳𝘢𝘵 𝘤𝘰𝘳𝘰𝘯𝘢𝘷𝘪𝘳𝘶𝘴) on the transport. I take this seriously and have been under a strict quarantine. The good news is, SDAV is self-limiting and can be "burnt out" of a rattery as long as there are no new litters or rats for 6 or more weeks. It's not difficult to get rid of, it's merely a waiting game. Therefore, all rats bred at my rattery will be SDAV-free once my QT is up!
My rats had a rough 2 weeks in the beginning, but are now nearly fully recovered. They have all been on doxycycline and enrofloxacin 2x a day for the past 3 weeks to treat their secondary infections, and I will likely be going for 1-2 more weeks for good measure. Following this, they will be used as my foundation stock with no concerns.
With all that said, a massive thank you to ᴄʟᴏᴠᴇʀꜰɪᴇʟᴅ ʀᴀᴛᴛᴇʀʏ 🇨🇦 for trusting me with her lines. I am so grateful to have found a breeder with such similar ideals to my own. Even though the rats arrived sick (And this is NO fault of ᴄꜰʀ, just simply the risk that comes with transport), brighter days are certainly ahead! ☀️
*I do have another group of rats arriving the first week of May, (two of the boys are pictured below - photo credit to ᴄʟᴏᴠᴇʀꜰɪᴇʟᴅ ʀᴀᴛᴛᴇʀʏ!). I will be doing a proper quarantine before they are added to the rattery, and after that point, I do not intend to bring in any more new rats to protect the health integrity of my rattery.
