Christmas is almost here, and many families are welcoming a new furry friend into their hearts!
Here’s how to ensure your newest family member has a smooth transition into the family:
🎄If you have other pets in the home, keep your newest addition on a leash, behind a gate or in their own space so they have time to acclimate to their surroundings but also to each other without becoming overwhelming.
🎄Over time, allow for closer, supervised interaction.
🎄If you have already have a cat, allow them to investigate the newest friend on their own time and provide them with plenty of places to hide.
🎄If you already have a dog, be sure to maintain similar attention on them as well as your newest family member and separate them if your dog gets overly excited.
🎄Reward all pets with high value treats for calm and relaxed behavior.

Bringing a new dog into your home can be as exciting as Christmas morning but did you know that your home can contain some preventable hazards to your new four-legged friend? Here are some helpful tips on how to dog-proof your house: 🐾Keep counters clear and any food items put away. Store food bags of any kind where pets cannot access them. 🐾Keep any and all cleaning products as well as other toxic items hidden. You can even look for products marked "pet-safe" as often as possible. 🐾Be sure that electrical cords and even outlets are covered properly. 🐾While they are lovely, remove toxic plants from inside and outside of the home. 🐾Do your best to medications up high and use caution when taking medications to ensure nothing falls on the floor.
