It’s National Walking The Dog Day so let’s celebrate! There are a number of ways to celebrate this day, but the most obvious is to go on a walk with your dog. However, why not go on a new trail or a new path that you don’t usually take? Dogs love exploring new sounds and sights just as much as we do, if not more.

You can also do some more research into your dog and your dog’s exercise habits. You can find out how long you should walk. After all, every dog is different and so they all have different exercise requirements. There are a number of factors that will influence how long your dog should walk including your dog’s breed, your dog’s age, their current weight, any health ailments, the temperature in your local area, etc. If you are unsure, you can always ask your vet for more information on how long your dog should walk each day. They will be able to give you specific advice for your dog.

If you hire a dog walker to walk your dog, you could use this day to let them know how much you appreciate them. A simple “thank you” will suffice. After all, without your dog walker, your dog wouldn’t get the exercise and fresh air it needs to lead a healthy life.

You also need to make sure that you keep your dog safe and comfortable. You should ensure your dog is cool or warm enough, especially if they are old, young, or they have a specific condition, such as arthritis. Your dog’s feet need to be protected from the elements, such as snow and ice. It is also important to give your dog access to a lot of clean and fresh water during and after their walk.

For most pet owners, our four-legged friends are more than just pets— they’re family. So it’s natural that we want to ensure that our fur baby receives the best care possible, even when it comes to who takes care of their grooming.

As with most businesses out there, not all pet grooming services are created equal which is why you should take time to ask some important questions before hiring a pet groomer.

Did you know?
We wanted to make you aware of a dog illness event. Multiple dogs have been treated for or died from acute liver failure in Maryland in past years that may be associated with ingestion of dark false mussels.
Dark false mussels are native to the Chesapeake Bay and occur in higher abundances during low salinity years. They are commonly found along piers, riprap, rope lines, and on boat bottoms. Although these mussels are easily accessible for consumption throughout the year, they only appear to become associated with dog illnesses during late fall/early winter when they are scraped from boat bottoms and disposed of improperly.
Marina operators, boat owners, dog owners, and other persons using boat ramps, are advised to dispose of scraped mussels appropriately in garbage cans in order to help prevent inadvertent poisonings of dogs. Most cases were exposed to mussels that were scraped from boat hulls recently pulled from the Magothy and Severn Rivers; however, other areas may be at risk.
There are a few key characteristics to tell the dark false mussels apart from their look-a-like the zebra mussel. Zebra mussels are more pointed at their narrowest end, while dark false mussels are more rounded. Zebra mussels are also taller and triangular in shape. To find out more visit:
