Hope's has had a very hard few weeks.
We lost beautiful Benson, the boxer after only a few weeks.
Our sweet sugar cube crossed over from cancer, a couple of weeks ago.
On Thursday , our precious Lucy lost her battle with kidney failure and mega esophagus.
Hospice fostering can rip your heart out, but we also know they were loved until their very last breath.
Our hospice fosters are amazing people and we're so thankful we have them.
Hug your babies a little tighter.....
Yesterday, a light went out in my life.
My Lucy had put up an amazing fight, but it sadly came to an end.
She came to me 10 months ago, suffering from mega esophagus and stage 4 kidney failure.
She was never a foster dog, she was my girl from day one.
I bonded with Lucy and learned so much from her.
She taught me patience, to take each day at a time, to slow down and enjoy small moments.
3 times a day, I would feed Lucy from a raised feeder bowl and then we would sit in the living room ( in what I now call, Lucy's chair) she would sit in an upright position for 20 to 30 minutes beside me. Sometimes we watched tv, sometimes I would sing to her and sometimes we would sit in silence, with her head on my shoulder, thanking God she was still with me.
I will miss our special times together.
I will miss her incredible sweet behavior.
I will miss seeing her chase the dogs and loving everyone.
I will miss those beautiful, soulful eyes looking up at me.
There will never be another Lucy in my life and my heart is broken.
Look up tonight and when you see the brightest star........
That's My Lucy telling me she's at peace.
