This is the ball/toy that was the cause of two dogs choking this past week (one was saved, sadly the other passed). Below is the great response from Kong Company.

As we expand the ways that we meet the needs of dogs worldwide, toy safety and education is at the core of what we do. All toys are held to a high safety standard. We also strive to guide pet parents on toy selection safety as well as remind them that part of toy safety is monitoring their dogs when they are playing.

It’s important to call out that the KONG Beast product line is not from our KONG Classic line but instead is a separate KONG-branded product line that carries the KONG Brand name on it. The availability of this product is isolated to one retail outlet where we’ve sold close to 100k units over the course of 5 years and have never once had health issues of this nature.

We take your feedback seriously. In fact, since we became aware of the situation on Monday, August 24th we have taken specific actions to address the situation.

First we have worked directly with the retailers that carry the product and together we have placed a proactive hold on the product and are removing existing inventories from the pegs. Second, we have implemented safety features within the product to protect against any inadvertent misuse. These design tweaks will be implemented on all existing and new production.

If you or someone you know has this product in your possession—please reach out directly to us and we will replace the product. As pet parents ourselves, we understand how important our dogs are to our lives and families.
