🫀🦟❤️April is National Heartworm Awareness Month, a crucial time to educate ourselves on preventing heartworm disease in our pets. ​

Signs of Heartworm Disease:

Dogs: Persistent cough, lethargy, exercise intolerance, weight loss, and in severe cases, heart failure. ​
Cats: Coughing, respiratory distress, vomiting, and in some cases, sudden death. ​

Preventive Measures:

Year-Round Medication: Administer veterinarian-prescribed heartworm preventatives consistently.​
Regular Testing: Schedule annual heartworm screenings to detect any early signs of infection.​
Mosquito Control: Limit pets' exposure to mosquitoes, especially during peak activity times.

Have you ever thought about which rat bait you put down in your yard? 🐀💡

Many rat baits contain chemicals that are toxic to pets, so it’s important to choose wisely. Some common rat poisons include anticoagulants like bromadiolone, which can cause internal bleeding in pets if ingested.

💕🐾💕

Bromethalin Poisoning:
•Signs include tremors, seizures, paralysis, loss of coordination, hind limb weakness, vomiting and diarrhea.

Anticoagulant Poisoning:
•Signs include lethargy, pale gums, bruising, (if internal bleeding), blood in vomit, urine or stool.

This sweet pup came in with a swollen abscess on his face, which turned out to be caused by a tooth root abcess/infection. After taking radiographs, we discovered additional teeth with bone necrosis that need to be removed. We performed a dental cleaning and extractions to get him back on track to a healthy, pain-free mouth!

Dental care is essential for both dogs and cats- regular check-up’s can prevent infections, pain, and other serious health issues. Don’t forget to schedule your pets dental exam! 🩺🦠❤️
