Feel good story incoming!
Rocko the Rottweiler is an Omnia K9 Alumni. His initial training was completed in 2019 as a young puppy. His owners were very diligent in maintaining his training and insuring he had a great life.
He has come to stay with me a handful of times over the years, mostly for puppy sitting while his humans had to go out of town. Each time was flawless as ever. I never had to worry about regression or new unwanted behaviors popping up or needing worked on.
Fast forward to 2022. I’m contacted by Rocko’s owners and they are going through a very challenging time in their lives due to health conditions. Unfortunately for Rocko, that means that he cannot stay in the home and his owners were not going to put him through being an outside dog or staying in boarding. They asked me to help find him the best new home.
Luckily, I happen to know and work with other trainers, Go Forth K9 being one of them. With Autumn’s help, we were able to find Rocko a phenomenal home in a matter of twenty minutes from being contacted by his previous owners. His new owners have the same level of dedication to a dog’s mental and physical well-being.
There were a few bumps in the road, namely having another young intact male in his new home but Rocko is thriving again!
These photos are from the last few days. Having implemented the same rules and boundaries he’s known in his new environment, Rocko has adjusted well and is loving life once again.
A few lessons this has reminded me of:
1. A trained dog will always find a home
2. Work with fellow trainers, they can always help
3. Be an advocate for your client dogs. They will always need your help at some point.
