This sweet perky eared girl was surviving on the streets and caring for puppies under a abandoned home. She was lucky and someone spent the time to trap her off thebstreets and crawl under a home to rescue her babies. After a couple days locked up in a area with her puppies Nova became dangerously aggressive. Her pups where 7-8 weeks so, she was removed from her puppies. She went off to a trainer to break her out of survival mode. After a week she began to blossom and come out of her shell. Turns out the terrified dog trying to protect her babies has a awesome temperament. She has been good with all dogs, and cats she has met. Little hand shy with new people but easily bought off with treats or soft pets. She is a avid tennis ball chaser. She is still awaiting her home in Oklahoma. She was very malnourished due to life on the streets and caring for her puppies. Having the NUTRO Pet Food donated by the Greater Good Charities has been a blessing to get her back to health.

URGENT I AM READY FOR ADOPTION, FOSTER, or TRANSFER!

Hello, my name is Nova, it been a crazy 2024 for me, you see I was raising my puppies on the streets in SW Oklahoma City in the winter, and then I ended up in a trap trying to get food to survive. The humans had my puppies too, I was so scared when we arrived at our new location I was trapped in a room with my puppies and no longer able to escape, so I started defending them from these unknown humans that trapped me. After about a week my babies were moved away from me as they were over 6 weeks and I was in momma defense mode. I ended up back into a cage and off to a trainer’s home. That is where I started the first chapter to my new life. I spent a week terrified to interact with my trainer, mostly shut down, but willing to defend myself. You see after an unknown amount of time on the streets had left me in survivor mode, very flighty and my mommy hormones where all over the place. After some time to decompress the trainer pushed me to accept a leash, and in no time at all I remembered what it was like when I was a pet before. I got to lay on soft beds inside a home, chew up dog toys, and my favorite is to play fetch with a ball. I will sneak on the couch if you’re not looking, and despite street life I don’t like going outside in the cold or wet. I enjoy a car ride but do best with a seatbelt restraint. I share the trainer’s home with serval other dogs and cats. I will need a little time and patients to adjust to a new place and people, but I am bought off by a nice snacks. Soon as I know you are a safe human; we will be besties. (Nova warms up to new people quickly within minutes in an environment she is comfortable in, she is more cautious in new places, with new people and takes her time to greet)

Adoption fee is $75, this dog is about 2-3 yrs old and in the 50 lb range, Nova is spayed and current on vaccines and Heartworm negative.

Thanks to the Greater Good Charities and NUTRO Pet Food affordable food donations she is doing amazing.

Simple Analogy—Why we can’t saved them all…

Every time rescue is asked to take an owner surrender- we have to somehow make room on our little raft for that dog.
When an owner says stuff like “I don’t have time to give them the best life” or “I have to move” or “they have too much anxiety” it really falls flat because that means if we bring them on the raft, another dog out there in the freezing water gets to die.

Every day rescue adjudicate life and death by gate keeping who can get on the boat.

Rescues and shelters are the tiny Rescue Boats.

The Ship is our community at large.

The iceberg is comprised of puppy mills, careless owners, backyard breeders, and those who won’t spay/neuter.

🐱We are now offering our free, feral cat spay and neuter program 4 days a week, no appointment needed!

🐈‍🐈🐈‍Kitten season is in full swing, but you can still help curb the overpopulation of feral cat litters in Norman. If you are a Norman resident in city limits, you can bring in a feral cat in a live trap on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays between 8:15-8:30AM. You will then pick the cat up after 3:30PM to return to habitat the next day. You will be provided with discharge instructions to ensure the cat's safe return to habitat.

HAPPY NEW YEAR FOR RYDER!
Ryder found his forever home on December 30th just in time for the new year. He is happy to have another dog is residence who is his new best friend. We are so delighted for Ryder.

HAPPY HALLOWEEN! What a treat it would be if we could get adoption applications for these two goblins.
Barkley is the spotted boy with the beautiful gray eyes. He loves his people and is happiest when someone is petting him. Barkley would be your best companion and cuddle buddy if given the chance.
Maverick is the brown and while goof ball! He never has a bad day and thinks life is a bowl full of cherries! He will keep you laughing with his antics!
Both of these guys are neutered, microchipped, up to date on vaccines and on a heart worm preventative.

FOSTERS URGENTLY NEEDED Qualified Screened Fosters needed. These poor pups and older sibling have had a terrible existence in life Sadly they were owned by a hoarder and although the babies are only 3 1/2 month old & the adult is a little over a year old and has never been outside of her home and has never seen another human or dog besides her previous 82-year-old elderly male caretaker and packmates. With about 13 dogs roaming freely in the home the stinch and the amount of feces was overwhelming the home has been condemned and the animals were sent to an animal control facility, so they were tossed into elements they have never seen before. These puppies and adult female will need some intense rehab. Our first step is to focus on the medical concerns so they are going through a treatment for parasites, eliminating feces out of fur, and will be receiving their first shots soon as they get health clearance. Working on staining and smell of the fur will be on going task. So while finding foster homes is URGENT fosters will be screened and pups will need to be healthy enough to be sent into foster as this will be very stressful for them. Right now the idea schedule to place in foster homes would be around Friday May 12th provided no issues arise. To foster you must be able to provide: A safe secure way to handle the dog/pup on potty breaks. ( They are wild on a leash and will require training and leash work. For the puppies a outdoor playpen is idea for potty break. They can not be loose in the yard, they can not be left unsupervised in a open top pen. The adult will have to be allowed to potty in a kenneled area with a roof or a leash which she is not currently trained to. ) Willing to work with kennel training and housebreaking the dog/puppies. (These are husky pups/dogs they will protest loudly, and do. Kennel training is a must! Work on social skills and general rehabilitation daily. These pups need intense work. Are you considering a new member for your family? Charlie is just the guy! He has all the puppy antics but he is already (mostly) potty trained and crated trained!! That makes him "move-in ready"! Charlie is a four month old Shepherd mix who is such a fun loving and energetic boy. If his paws are any indication, he will be a big boy! His coloring is so unique, black with his white chest and paws and a darling while stripe on his face. Charlie has lived in foster his whole life so he is acclimated to living in a home. He is doing well with his potty training and would just need direction and patience in a new home for a new routine. Charlie lives with a large dog and a small dog and shows respect to each, even though he wishes they would play more! He does have a sister, Dolly, who he plays with all day! Charlie is crate trained and sleeps quietly in his crate all night. He also is dry and clean in his crate. What a great companion Charlie would make for anyone.
