Updated Bio: Mila is a delightful 2-year-old German Shepherd who is ready to find her forever home! She walks well on a gentle leader and does very well walking next to you. She would greatly enjoy being a running buddy or going on long walks with an avid walker. Mila is also great about using her crate—she even likes to go in on her own. She recently mastered the doggie door and has had no accidents in the house. She is fully house trained, not destructive in her crate or indoors, and can be trusted to roam freely at night and when left home alone.
Mila knows her commands well: sit, shake, down, and up. She patiently sits while leashing up for walks. This vocal girl loves to talk and can be a bit dramatic, adding a fun personality to her charm. She has not had any counter-surfing incidents and doesn’t seem to be resource-guarding or possessive over food.
Mila is extremely smart and will thrive in a structured home that can provide routine and training to polish her skills. She loves to be close to her people and is always happy to snuggle. Mila loves to play with toys, including tennis balls, tug ropes, and frisbees, and she is always up for a game of fetch!
Mila would do well in a home with older children, as she enjoys jumping and giving playful nose boops (her style of kisses). She has also lived well with a small dog in the past, making her a good candidate for multi-pet households. However, she will require extra time and care to introduce her to new dog friends, as she gets overly excited. We’d recommend a session of fetch before introductions to burn off excess energy.
Mila does need some help with her reactivity. She can be reactive to people, dogs, bikes, and scooters, barking excitedly during these encounters. While she has not shown aggression, her enthusiasm can be intimidating to others. With treats and positive reinforcement, she can be redirected, but she will benefit from additional training, socialization, and desensitization.
As a picky eater, Mila tends to graze rather than eat all at once. She has a high energy level, so she will require daily exercise and routine walks to keep her happy and healthy. Did I mention, she loves to play fetch!
If you’re looking for a loving and spirited companion who is eager to learn, play, and share some snuggles, Mila could be the perfect addition to your family!
