Circle Lazy K Ranch

Circle Lazy K Ranch Standing Arabian stallion CLK Marshal Cooper and AQHA stallion Look Metalman Circle Lazy K Ranch began as a dream many years ago by my son and I.

Starting with a true desire to produce an arabian horse of size, correct structure, versatility and possessing an exceptional mind we purchased our foundation mares CLK Kharazonna and Highland Sonic. Moving from ranch to ranch as real estate became more of a commodity than the countryside itself we settled in Mariposa, California for nearly 12 years. Recently, fate has guided us halfway across the

country to pick up where we left off - with tremendous opportunities on the horizon. From a meager foundation, we plan on making a firm mark on the Arabian horse industry as well as pairing equine enthusiasts with the partner of their dreams.

If anyone has any information on this woman's whereabouts, I strongly urge you to contact the authorities. She shouldn't be in control of a cockroach let alone a dog or a horse. She is a repeat animal cruelty offender in at least 2 different states and needs to be stopped. I have seen the cruelty with my own eyes. Please help and contact the authorities if you have any information that can lead to her arrest.

A Lane County Circuit Court Judge has issued a warrant for the arrest of Gwenyth Davies, the woman behind an infamous 2019 horse neglect case that was considered to be one of Oregon's biggest neglect cases in recent memory.

Princess Nathalie, dressage trainer and Medal Winner for Denmark tells us:
“In dressage you need that partnership more, you build a true partnership with your horse, otherwise you can’t perform. You can see it with Dalera and Jessica, they know each other so well, and that partnership you can’t buy with money, you have to earn your partnership together with your horse, and that’s years of training and being together, and caring for your horse.”

This is an intersting article. We stand CLK Marshal Cooper for this reason. By no fault of his own, he was only shown in hand a couple of times. But, as breeder/trainer/owner of this boy, I knew knew he was exceptional. While he doesn't have the show career behind him, he has proven himself in the breeding shed as an outstanding stallion. With traditional Arabian lines, we have purebreds and part-breds alike that are consistently level headed and extremely athletic. If we continue as breeders to breed for popularity instead of quality we risk losing the very things we hold beloved in our breed.

CLK Marshal Cooper is available for live cover breeding in Okmulgee, OK. We also have several of his get available for purchase.

This is something I have always stuck to in my program. At any horse show, you are only competing against one person, yourself. All you can hope for is to be better than the last class you entered. You're not going to fix anything in the show ring. That's something you do at home. My students are always expected to win graciously, support fellow competitors, and congratulate those who finish ahead of them. If you would like to be part of the 2024 show team at CIRCLE LAZY K RANCH, give us a call!! We'd love to have you as part of our ranch family.

BY CIRA PACE MALTA Breaking news—this sport is really, really hard. No matter how long you’ve been riding, how many blue ribbons you have won or how much you were able to spend on the horse underneath you… this sport is hard. There are so many things that can go wrong at any given moment […]

What a great article for today's post! I teach with the same method calling it either "ask/tell/make" or "hair/skin/skeleton". If we always ask with a demand, the horse learns that it must brace whenever it believes you are going to ask him for something. If you give the chance for a horse to respond to the light aid AND follow through with a release, the horse will always seek the lighter aid and thus give a lighter response. Some horses learn this more quickly than others, so we must also remember that it is us as their teacher that must be patient enouch for them to learn.

Grand Prix dressage trainer Matt McLaughlin explains his fundamental training concept of ask, tell, demand.

Talking about positive tension with Carl Hester …
“Where it tips over, that positive tension, is if you let the horse get strong in the bridle. Once you let the horse become heavy on the hand and strong in the bridle, it’s not positive any more, because then there is a block. If you can create what we try to create, without heavy hands, like Charlotte and Valegro, without hanging onto the rein, if you can do it with self-carriage, then it looks beautiful. It’s this word, expression, which is a dangerous word because once you put expression into it, like heightened suspension and things like that, then if you have got the wrong rider, or a rider who doesn’t ride with an independent seat, then they use their hands and that’s when you get that horrible looking, jerky dressage. It is something we really work on, to be able to create it, without going over-board.”

Considering putting on an equitation clinic early next year. Who would be interested in a knowledge based equitation clinic founded not only in the how but they why? Considering doing it at the ranch or at a facility with a covered, depending on attendance.

FANTASTIC READ!!!! And, I mean, who doesn't want advise from Ingrid Klimke?

Five-time German Olympian Ingrid Klimke focused on conditioning, training and rider position at her masterclass in California.

Today's post is a reflection on a conversation with a student of mine from a day or two ago. She is a beginner, green as they come, and I found myself explaining not only the how's but the why's. When I am giving a lesson, when I am training a rider, I make it a point to explain why the horse reacts, how it learns, and how they understand and communicate. Not every rider will become a trainer, but they must always ride as if they are. That is what makes the difference between being a passenger and being an engaged rider.

Without the proper foundation, no building can stand. What we are doing here at Circle Lazy K Ranch is building the foundation for success no matter what your riding goals are.

If you would like to improve your abilities and truly understand your horse, we welcome you to our program!

The little engine that could. The mighty little pony that qualified for the Olympics but never made it there. PROOF that size doesn't matter!

The tale of Theodore O’Connor is one that lends itself easily to alliteration. Throughout 2007, phrases like “pony power,” “mighty midget” and “pint-sized prodigy” have been bandied about in the equine and mainstream media, and the 14.1-hand event pony morphed from competitor into cult...

CLK Legendary ~ 2021 Grey Arabian Filly

For Your Consideration - This filly is the only foal by our late Ferzon/Azraff Heritage Bred stallion CLK I Am Legend and of the Draper bred mare DM Sureynity Fleur. This outstanding filly is everything you want from an Arabian in a tiny package. We would be holding her back for our breeding program if she were a bit taller. That said, she is EXTREMELY talented. Versatile, athletic, smart, and typey. This filly will excel at hunters, jumpers, or even working western. A perfect mount for a young rider looking for a "step up" mount. Very forward but not hot with a lot of drive from behind. Big mover in a little package. She has been saddled, bridled, and had the dummy legs on and could have cared less about it all. I would love to see this little filly go to a young pony clubber or youth Arabian rider. Special consideration for a performance home. This filly is special and posesses some of the most sought after foundation lines in the breed. Feel free to contact us for more info.

Totally Stole this from Abby Lengel but I am constantly preaching this to my students and show team. At the show, you are only in competition with one person, the rider you were the day before. It's not about 1st place, it's about getting the most you can out of your horse that day.

And I want to share some things that are very important tonight for me 💙

Don’t focus on the horses that are more talented than yours.
Do the best you can with what you have.
Know your horses capabilities and know their limits.

To me, winning isn’t always getting first place, winning is walking out of the show pen and knowing that your horse gave you all he had.

It’s a great reward knowing that I tapped into a horse’s potential, even if it’s not the most talented horse, and he gave me everything he had to give.

Conformation and the Sport Horse Posted on July 1, 2021 by horsemagazine By Christopher Hector Most people who have been around horses for any period of time tend to share a vision of what ‘good’ conformation should be. My question is – given that so many jumping and dressage horses, even even...

04/20/2023

I wanted to post not only about this horse but about her owner, Tracy Russo. When Coco came to us, she was damaged. Not by any fault of her owner but, most likely, by poor handling by her previous owner. Coco is extremely smart, responsive, and soft but that had been covered up by misunderstanding deratandung how to handle this and most likely a heavy hand. She was worried about everything!!! And I mean everything. She was just waiting to get scolded every second you were around her. Long story short, I realized that she needed to fight it out herself. So she spent a day fighting herself on the patience pole and the side of the trailer. She has come out the other side a better horse. Not fixed, but making progress every day.

Today, I crawled back on her. She took a HUGE breath and walked out calmly and quietly. She waits for me to tell her of there is indeed something to be scared of. We are finally, after a month, back at the beginning and ready to learn again the correct way.

What I am truly grateful for and want to point out is that her owner UNDERSTANDS that, if she wants her lovely mare to be a good partner, it's not going to happen overnight. I told her after the first week that I believed she could get better...but it wasn't going to be a quick fix. I told her that she will never be a beginner horse, most likely. She will however be a great companion for a knowledgeable rider. Her owner looked at me with all the live for this marenin her eyes and said let's do it.

I wish more clients would understand that horses aren't machines. It's a lot like being a psychiatrist when it comes to "damaged" horses. You have to fix the past before you can excel in the future.

I am so thankful for thoughtful owners such as Tracy who entrust their beloved family members with me. Thank you for saving this beautiful horse and giving her the time and making the investment to make the rest of her life a beautiful ride.

Our Story

Circle Lazy K Ranch began as a dream many years ago by my son and I. Starting with a true desire to produce an Arabian horse of size, correct structure, versatility and possessing an exceptional mind we purchased our foundation mares CLK Kharazonna and Barristers Firey Rose. Moving from ranch to ranch as real estate became more of a commodity than the countryside itself we have finally moved to our permanent home in Mariposa, California. From meager foundations, we plan to continue making a firm mark on the Arabian horse industry as well as pairing equine enthusiasts with the partner of their dreams.

Since 2013, Todd Bulik of Bulik Training Stables had been training out of Madera, California. In October 2018, he moved his training operation to Circle Lazy K Ranch, widening our services into western performance disciplines that include reined cowhorse, cutting, and reining - for all breeds. In addition, our breeding program has now expanded to include quarter horses and their outcrosses. Todd has recently won the 2018 Gabilan Cutters Series Reserve Champion on his 2013 mare, Ima Godiva Cat (Palo Duro Cat X Justa Little Calgirl).
