A little training update on Hailey before the weekend! Prior to coming to live in Colorado, it doesn’t appear she was very well socialized to the world. So, new environments and new things/sounds can be worrisome to her. We are going at her pace, helping to push her a little bit when it’s appropriate, and seeing some confidence take root! Her loose leash walking, doorway etiquette, and sit stays are all coming along nicely, so we will be able to start some field trips next week.
Cooper has knocked out week one, and is doing great! Distractions are really temping for this excitable boy, so we are putting him to the test! He has also been working hard on those off leash skills. We even had the help of the barn cats and other farm animals in the distance for good measure😌 Good boy Cooper!
Floyd is closing in on his second week of training! The momentum is growing. He is taking his skills into public on field trips, adding distractions as we go. He is also having the foundation laid for what will eventually be off leash recalls, and learning that the bed is a cue for calm and relaxed behavior. We are happy to report that his tongue continues to make an appearance on a regular basis 😆
This girl has come such a long way with her resource guarding! We started with a lot of trading for high value rewards, to desensitize her to people approaching when she had something. Now that she’s a bit older, it’s more fair for us to hold her accountable to her obedience in these situations (still with plenty of rewards!) Layla has just under a week left with us.
Remington has already made some wonderful progress in the last week! Not only is his impulse control improving every day, he is also getting the hang of loose leash walking in a variety of environments. We can’t wait to see where he goes from here!
Layla has had a great first week and a half back with us! Like most young Goldens, she’s very social, and easily over-excitable. While these are great traits, she needs to learn a lot of self control to be a safer, more well-adjusted citizen. We love seeing her improving her loose leash walking, her self control around dogs and humans, and of course those evasive recalls!
We just have a couple of days left before Toast graduates! He has built some confidence and motivation, learned better impulse control (especially around other dogs), and opened up even better communication between himself and humans! Proud of him learning to better navigate our crazy world.
Golden Heart Canine Facility Tour
Have you ever wondered what our facility and property are like, or what our guests are up to when they come to visit? Look no further!
We are proud to be able to offer some of the best space in the region for dogs to be able to safely play, train, and exercise in.
Thank you to Drew Loewen Creative for putting this virtual tour together for us!
Leo the Lucious is cruising along in his four week program! Like many northern breeds, this guy has his own style of doing things 😆 but we are loving his motivation and attitude about learning! Impulse control, doorway etiquette, loose leash walking, and more! This polar bear is ready to hit the town for field trips.
Penny and Haddie are one week in with us! They both had a foundation of training upon arrival, but there are still things to be improved upon and ironed out - especially when working together! By adding distractions and challenges in small increments, we are able to build upon successes.
Graduation is just around the corner for Ms. Maggie! She’s made big strides with her leash skills and manners. Just look how great she did going past those very tempting goodies! This girl has taken on training like a champ. Even with ample things going on around her, she likes to please! Very proud of Maggie and we can’t wait to see her continued success!
A good romp in the field with Emme, Phoebe, Maggie, Hazy, Sadie, Enzo, and Bob! Special feature of Sadie morphing into her alter ego: “very wet dog”🤣
This month has flown by for us with Goldie! (We know it’s probably gone by slower for her humans.) It’s been a joy to see her open up and show us more of her true personality. While many things still have the propensity to make her nervous, we are so proud of her for building more resilience and coping mechanisms - just seeing her out and about with her tail up, and taking food when a film crew was in the facility are a big deal!
Nina is approaching the finish line for her two week program! She has been focusing on that Loose Leash Life during her time here, and we are loving seeing that lightbulb go off for her. (Just look at that happy tail and prance!) She’s also found that engagement with her handler just might pay better than keeping her nose to the ground, or focusing more on external stimuli. Good girl! 💛
Moka has taken on the town anddd the freedom of the field! We’ve added more distractions and challenges, and she’s excelling like a champ! Way to go Moka😁
Coal is ready to graduate! He’s made great achievements with neutrality around other dogs, while also being reliable when needed! This goes for not only recalls, but bed stays too (which are his favorite)- me too Coal🤣 He’s also learned to “load up” with proper manners. And of course all with the help of his buddies Ginny, Hanna, and Moka too!
Little miss Moka has been working hard and is starting to get some of those foundations! We love having such a unique pup, especially such a sweet one😊We can’t wait to see her progress!
Two weeks down with Godwin, and he’s making us proud every day! He’s doing public outings, and while some stuff makes him a little nervous, he’s keeping good spirits and staying on task. Some of his larger classmates - Coal, Hanna, and Charlie - were also happy to lend a hand!
The month has absolutely flown by with Bob. (I’m sure it’s gone a little slower for his humans missing him at home!) we are so very proud of this guy for opening up and building some confidence this last month. He has better coping skills for the times he’s unsure, a clear communication system with his handler, and reliable obedience for various situations he might find himself in. He’s ready for his big day!
Pippi got some great practice in with a group of kids today! No music attached because we think the natural soundtrack is better 😆
