If anyone was thinking about Chance this year, here’s an pupdate!

He has jumped into his adoptive family with all 4 feet, and absolutely LOVES it! He has gotten significantly better about her fear of new places and people, and his older brothers Axel and Ryder are there to help him along. They have lots of adventures with their Dad: going around town on errands, hikes in the woods, and playtime on the beach! He’ll always be a little small, but his personality is BIG! Way to grow, Chance!

Is early spay/neuter affecting your large-breed dog's health? Research from UC Davis suggests that delaying these procedures can reduce risks of joint disorders and cancer. For breeds like German Shorthair Pointers, waiting until your dog is at least 12 months old could make a big difference. Explore the updated guidelines and alternative options for maintaining your dog's health. Today is , a reminder that knowing how to save a life—especially our furry friends—can make all the difference. While having to administer CPR to your pet can be terrifying, being prepared can help you act calmly and confidently in an emergency.

Stay Calm:
1️⃣ Breathe: Take a few deep breaths to steady yourself. Focus on the feeling of the air filling your lungs.
2️⃣ Delegate: If there are bystanders, assign them tasks like finding the nearest emergency vet.
3️⃣ Focus: Keep your mind clear. Concentrate on the steps ahead and stay in the moment.

When to Start CPR:
🐾 Your pet isn’t responding
🐾 Your pet isn’t breathing
🐾 You can’t feel a heartbeat or pulse

How to Perform CPR:
Compressions:
❤️ Position your pet on their side.
❤️ Deliver 120 compressions per minute (2 per second).
❤️ For every 30 compressions, give 2 breaths.

Breaths:
❤️ Close your pet’s mouth and seal it with your fingers.
❤️ Cover their nose with your mouth and give 2 breaths—enough to make their chest rise.
❤️ Check for a heartbeat after 2 minutes. If there’s no pulse, continue.

When to Stop CPR:
🐾 Your pet starts breathing and responding
🐾 You reach the vet clinic and they take over
🐾 You can’t continue physically
🐾 Your pet starts breathing but is still unconscious

Recovery Position:
Place your pet’s head to the side, slightly tilting down (unless there’s head trauma).

Compression Techniques:
🐶 Medium to Large Dogs: Compress one third of the chest depth.
🐱 Small Dogs/Cats: Use your thumb and fingers for compression, or compress directly over the heart.

Stay prepared and know that you can make a difference in your pet's life! ❤️

Up in Pittsburg, New Hampshire today, and while we went out hunting with the goal of finding grouse on this Ladies' Hunt Weekend with the Granite State Chapter of the Ruffed Grouse Society, they all jumped and flew off while the dogs were still working the scent. We did encounter lots of woodcock, and they held very well. Sadie and I got her first two today! They will be part of the Game Dinner & Bonfire tomorrow night! My Delta Waterfowl chapter has a banquet coming up on February 8th. If you want to attend, please mark the date on your calendar NOW so you don’t schedule something that conflicts. I already made sure that CT DU has no conflicts. Now you have no excuse NOT to attend!! LOL

If you make cool stuff, or would like to contribute in some way, please let me know. I’m hoping to build a ladies’ game table, so don’t feel like you have to restrict yourself to hunting supplies! I’m also seeking donated themed raffle baskets (Veggie Gardening basket, Car Care Basket, Valentine’s Day Lovers Basket, Movie Night Basket, Lotto Ticket Basket, Candy Lovers Basket, Flower Garden Basket, Baking Day Basket, Pamper Yourself Spa Basket, etc) that are in the $30-$100 range. With the banquet about 4 months away, there’s plenty of time to spread out the item purchases! If you have the motivation to see a basket made, but don’t want to do it yourself, feel free to write a check to us in the amount you would have spent, and I’ll use the funds to build the basket. I’ll even take a picture of it for you and give you and/or your company credit for the item!

We also have a large list of items that the chapter orders from Delta Waterfowl HQ that can get covered by someone making a matching cash donation. If you would like to do that, just let me know and I can send you the item list for you to pick out an item to purchase for the chapter.

Oh my Sadie baby. My little girl. Three years has gone by far too fast. Through three years of intense training, testing, titling, love, cuddles, heats, injuries, roadtrips, conventions, and hunts, we have formed such a bond. I’m so proud of you and you know you’ll be spoiled today for your birthday. I love so much!

Sadie and I and everyone here at Becket Hill GSP wish a very happy birthday to all of Sadie’s siblings: Winnie, Moose, Gunner, Dutton, and Bernie. Happy birthday!!

Part 1 Spinal Fusion Post Op +10 hours Update:

My OT visited, so I FINALLY (after 4 hours) got the chance to walk again. Since she had other patients to visit, she restrained me to only 3 laps around the unit. Oh well. Upon returning to the room, I got my stuff unpacked so I could be more settled in.

Now I’m just waiting for Nina, Carol Alix, to come sit with me a bit. I’m still on a clear liquid diet, so hopefully I don’t get too hangry as the evening goes on!

I finished my minutes for my August 18th meeting for Connecticut Delta Waterfowl. Finally 😳! Sorry for the procrastination! Life gets so busy! But I needed to get them done so I can send them out through email for another reminder about our upcoming Fall Social on Sunday!!! Be on the lookout, and if you haven’t been getting my Delta emails, message me!!

**UPDATED BELOW 9/29**

It is with deep regret that we share the passing of longtime Club member, Dick Frawley. He passed peacefully last night at home after being diagnosed with untreatable cancer.

We ask that members give his wife, Kim, and their family time and space to grieve. There will be no service -- although Dick did assent to a celebration of life at Flaherty some time in the spring.

Aware of the timely state of his health, and in appreciation of his decades of service to the Club, to the breed, and to the sport, the Board of the CVVC has commissioned a trophy for the Amateur Walking Derby stake at our field trial in Dick's name -- and we are grateful that we were able to share that with him before he passed.

The trophy with be backdated to the spring to ensure that Dick's win of that stake with his youngest dog, Jax, is the first plaque.

If folks would like to contribute toward the cost of that trophy (which is being made by George Haines in IL), please use the Club's PayPal address and put 'Frawley Trophy' in the memo field.

In the meantime, please think fondly of a man who volunteered his life to pointing dogs in general and to the Vizsla, in particular.

(The picture is of Dick from a few years ago with another of his young dogs, Luke, after a successful weekend at Flaherty.)

With kisses! 🤎🤍🤎🤍

Lily-Momma hopped into the baby pen upon command and proceeded to cover baby Will with kisses! He giggled a bunch and then learned to fend off her tongue and gave her some cuddles before I had her come back out.
