This is Duck : 5 years old, he has had a really horrible life up to this point. He was found by a volunteer having been dumped out of a car on the highway. Rescue has nursed him back to health and now he is a fit, happy boy who loves all dogs and all people. He does not like the shelter environment, even though he is with one of our local rescue partners, in an 8 kennel shelter, he just isn't coping well with shelter life. That's why we are considering him urgent for transport. He's ready to be in a loving family home and loves dogs, kids and adults. Could care less about cats.

Another oldie but goodie! 🐶

Bandit is looking for the perfect retirement home. A loving human, a comfy couch and lots of naps is his ideal life. This big guy has the sweetest personality and doesn't mind animal friends. Bandit doesn't mind children either, but he is too old for the young ones as he enjoys the laid back life.

Bandit is an 11 year old husky mix.

Please fill out an adoption application on our website if you’d like to meet Bandit. Our team will review applications and schedule appointments with approved adopters.

Symptoms and Treatment of Foxtail Invasions in Dogs - Whole Dog Journal

While some ?rst aid may be possible in the event of a foxtail wound, in almost all cases you should get your dog to a veterinarian as soon as possible. Delaying treatment allows the foxtail to do further damage; avoiding foxtail treatment altogether could lead to your dog developing a chronic illnes...

Susie's Senior Dogs

**EDIT: ADOPTED!!** MONTEREY, VA: 7 year old Ebenezer was let go by his owner when he became a senior or, likely, no longer "useful." Ebby is a sweetie who is very good with young children! He is also good with other dogs, but can guard his food around other canines. He needs an owner who can safely manage this for him. Although it's not known for certain, Ebby may not have been able to eat in peace in his previous life resulting in his fear that another dog will steal his food. But make no mistake, he is a good, good boy who simply needs a loving family that will show him the ropes of the good life! PLEASE SHARE!

Highland County Humane Society wrote, "Ebenezer was a discarded hunting hound, brought in by suspected owner with another hound to a rural pound. He needed medical attention, including a dental, neuter, bloodwork and some skin growths checked. Luckily, RADAR assisted with his vetting and surgeries.

Ebby is super quiet, gentle with people, takes food and treats politely and VERY food motivated. He is learning the ropes of being indoors while he is currently being fostered with a grad student.

Ebby is house trained and not destructive in the foster home. He sleeps in his bed at night and he is only crated when out on errands. Ebby is housetrained, will eat any food he can get to and he LOVES babies and little kids. He’s a good sleeper and really good on walks. He doesn't know any 'tricks' but he listens when told to come and has learned his name. Ebby seems to handle stairs well and would love a fenced yard, although that's not required.

Ebby is good with other dogs but needs to be fed separately as he does food guard from dogs (but not people). There are no cats in his foster home but a cat test could be done.

His health is good and he's current on his vaccines. He's on monthly Interceptor and topical Advantix. He is microchipped.

Due to COVID-19, we are handling adoptions outside in a mutual space on a case by case basis, or adoption can be 'pending' and delayed until travel and meet up can be safely done. HCHS animals are safe in foster and there is no time limit on their stays."

To adopt Ebenezer, please email [email protected] with questions or to apply!

We understand everyone has concerns and are trying to keep their families safe and healthy from the Covid-19 virus (aka Coronavirus). Many people are attempting to stop the spread of the virus by rigorously cleaning and sanitizing everything that they can. However, everyone should be aware that not all cleaning and disinfecting products are safe for our furry family members.

Not all disinfecting products are pet friendly. Many products ending in -sol (Lysol, Pine Sol, etc) contain a chemical called phenol which can cause liver damage in pets. Lysol gives off potentially volatile organic compounds in its v***r. Additionally, if your pet licks or ingests Lysol, it can cause serious chemical burns in the tongue or upper esophagus. Please be mindful as you disinfect your homes and keep the health of your animal companions in mind too. If you must use these products, wipe down surfaces with water after disinfecting to remove residue from the surface before your pet comes in to contact with it.

Old Dog Haven

Roxie and Miko are a bonded pair looking for a home where they can stay together. They are thick as thieves! Both dogs have done fine with the other dogs in their foster home.

Roxie is a sweet, friendly, energetic girl that still has plenty of go! Don’t let her age fool you at 8 years old, she does not act it! In true husky fashion she can go over, under or around just about anything. She will need time to adjust, a very secure yard and cannot be left outside unsupervised. Once you gain her trust, she’s affectionate and personable. Roxie is about 39 pounds. She’s smart and eager to earn treats.

Miko is sweet old man dog. He’s a bit slower than Roxie but makes up for it in cute! He’s also a tiny dude. Mike is close to Roxie's age, around 9 years old. He could stand to lose a few pounds but currently weighs 39 pounds. He’s quite attached to Roxie and cries if separated from her. He’s hoping there is a family with enough love for both of them!

Roxie and Miko are posted for Misspits Rescue. The pair are located in Oakville, WA. Misspits Rescue requires a completed application before setting up a meet with their dogs. To fill out an application, visit their website at: www.misspitsrescue.org/adopt/adoption-application

These are not ODH dogs; we urge prospective adopters to do their own evaluation.

Hello there! My name is Philippa and I'm really, very happy to be here at AWS looking for my new family. Everyone was requesting that I write the new blog because I have such a story to tell, and that is true! But my life's story is very similar to a lot of dogs out there and I hope that by spreading the word, people will know how important rescuing really is. It saved my life as well as the lives of my five puppies and for that, I will always be grateful.

I was born in Puerto Rico and let me tell you, life was hard. At the time of my rescue from a wonderful organization called Love4Satos who partner with my new friends here at AWS, I was very thin and very hungry. It's hard for me to talk about my life before that but someone had chained me up to a ramshackle shed and left me to fend for myself. Can you imagine a girl like me in that kind of condition? I was upset to say the least, but my biggest concern was the kind of life that my puppies would have. Yes, I was pregnant and had to give birth there where I raised my pups the best I could. The humans all tell me I did a good job and was a very caring mother. The day that van pulled up and those lovely people unchained me and saved my babies was the best day of my life. I was so happy to finally be free!

From that point on, life got so much better! I got a warm bath, a yummy bowl of food, and my puppies were fed and cared for by many loving hands. Not to mention my new foster mom was the best lady ever! Eventually, we were all strong and healthy enough to finally find new homes so it was goodbye Puerto Rico and hello America! Once we arrived (I had never been on a plane before... how exciting!) my babies all went to a different rescue than me but I wasn't sad. I was so happy that they were off to bigger and better things! As for me, I found my way right here to AWS where I was greeted with open arms and lots of love. I have had quite a journey and experienced so much in my life, but I'm now finally ready to settle down and find a loving family to call my own.

Everyone I meet says I'm gentle, kind, affectionate and quite silly. I would have to agree and say that even though I've had some hardships, I've never let them get me down! I'm so full of love and life and want nothing more than to share it with somebody special. I just know my happily-ever-after is right around the corner!
