Don't Let Your Furry Friend Get Lost! 🐾

Losing a pet is one of the worst feelings in the world. That's why microchipping your dog is so important! A tiny chip can be a lifesaver. It provides a permanent form of identification that can help bring your lost pup home safely.

It's quick, easy, and can give you peace of mind. Have you microchipped your dog yet? Share your thoughts and experiences in the comments!

It’s swimming season! If your canine loves to swim there is a chance water can get trapped in the ear canal and can eventually develop into an ear infection. We recommend a maintenance ear cleaner after swimming or bathing to help dry out any water that may be trapped in there. If your dog does develop signs of an ear infection, give us a call to schedule an appointment.

Take a look below 👇 at a video by the American Veterinary Medical Association on how to clean your dogs ears. 🐶

Dogs' ears come in all sorts of different shapes and sizes. But no matter the shape, all dogs can get ear infections. That's why proper ear care is essential...

Saltwater can be toxic to dogs if they drink too much of it. Saltwater disrupts the fluid balance in a dog's body, which can lead to dehydration, vomiting, diarrhea, and in severe cases, seizures and death.

Here are some of the signs that your dog may have saltwater poisoning:

Vomiting
Diarrhea
Lethargy
Weakness
Loss of appetite
Excessive thirst
Disorientation
Tremors
Seizures
If you think your dog has been drinking saltwater, it is important to take them to the vet immediately. The vet will be able to treat the dehydration and electrolyte imbalance, and will monitor your dog for any other signs of complications.

Here are some tips to help prevent your dog from drinking saltwater:

Bring plenty of fresh water with you when you go to the beach.
Don't let your dog swim for long periods of time, especially if they are thirsty.
Take breaks in the shade and offer your dog fresh water frequently.
If your dog is persistent about trying to drink saltwater, you may want to consider using a muzzle or keeping them on a leash.

Answer: True! Eating too much sand can be dangerous for dogs because it can cause a blockage in their intestines, known as sand impaction. Wet, sand particles can clump together and become heavy and solid, which can interrupt the normal passage of contents in the intestines. This condition can make dogs very sick and is potentially life threatening. Seek medical attention if your canine doesn’t make a bowel movement 1-2 days after eating sand or is acting abnormal like lethargy, not eating, tummy pain/swelling, vomiting, dehydration.

Do you have a plan?

🐾Store leashes and collars near the entrance of your home.
🐾Make sure open flames such as candles are far out of reach or consider switching to battery operated candles.
🐾Consider placing a fire rescue decal on your window to let firefighters know how many pets are in your home.
🐾Figure out who is responsible for what pet when needing to make a quick exit.

💥How to prepare your pet for fireworks 💥

1.) Make sure your pet has a tag and their microchip is up to date with your latest contact information. Keep them inside and in a safe and secure spot.

2.) Exercise before dark. Fit in some extra playtime for your cats, and take dogs out for play and exercise well before dark. Such activities burn off extra energy, thus limiting anxiety later when it's time to sleep.

3.) Bring all pets indoors. Put a dog's crate or bed in the quietest, most enclosed room possible. Keep windows and curtains closed to further muffle sounds, and take some time to see what works best for your dog, such as lowering the lights or covering the crate with a blanket. Adding soothing music, white noise or the TV if outside noise can’t be muffled.

4.) Distract your pet. Food puzzles or Kong filled treats.

5.) Humans must stay calm, too. If you aren't fond of fireworks either, try to remain calm around your pet anyway. Our pets look to us as their owners on how to react.

6.) If you believe your pet needs something more, make sure to contact your veterinarian ahead of time to talk about other options.
