Animal Orphanage (Old Town, Maine)

Animal Orphanage (Old Town, Maine) We are a no-kill animal orphanage admitting stray cats and dogs through police or animal control.

In 1990, a dedicated group of Old Town/Orono citizens, concerned about the well-being of homeless cats and dogs in their communities, founded The Animal Orphanage. Thousands of lost or abandoned animals have found food, shelter, medical treatment and the comfort of a caring staff at the Orphanage over the years. Every effort is made to reunite the animal with its loving owners or arrange adoption into a new home.

Huge Thanks to this week's Kennel Sponsor: Hawthorne Snell! 🎉

We are so grateful to Hawthorne Snell for sponsoring one of our kennels! Your generosity provides comfort and care for our furry friends as they wait for their forever homes. 💕

Currently enjoying this kennel is Fival, a 3-year-old calico with a heart as warm as her beautiful coat. Fival absolutely adores cuddles and pets, and her unique little tail has earned her the nickname Nugget. 🐾 She’s a total sweetheart who has lived with other cats before, so we believe she could do well in a multi-cat home with a slow introduction. Tune into WABI 5 tomorrow morning at 6:30am to see Fival make her debut and become a local celebrity!

Thanks to your support, Fival and so many others have a safe and loving place to call home while they wait to meet their perfect match. 🏡

Let’s help Fival find her family! Share this post to spread the word about this precious girl. ❤️

We appreciate all the support from all of YOU. If you want to be a sponsor like Hawthorne Snell and all of our other kennel sponsors, learn more here: https://www.animalorphanageoldtown.com/kennel-sponsorship

🐾 Sammy & Moose: A Christmas Miracle of Second Chances 🐾

This holiday season, we’re overjoyed to share the heartwarming story of Sammy and Moose, who found their forever home together. 🎄❤️

Sammy arrived at our shelter in July 2023, malnourished and stressed, unable to fully show her loving nature in the shelter setting. After nearly a year of healing, in April 2024, she was adopted by our shelter manager, Alisha, where she began to blossom into the affectionate and playful dog we always knew she could be.

When Moose arrived at our shelter in July 2024, he was full of energy, charm, and a few quirky traits that made him unique. He wasn’t an easy case, but we knew Moose just needed the right person to see his heart. Alisha, who had already opened her heart to Sammy in April, couldn’t resist his sweet nature, and she decided to bring him into the family last week.

Now, Sammy and Moose are siblings, sharing their first Christmas together in a home full of love, warmth, and joy. These two incredible dogs have waited so long for their fresh start, and we’re beyond happy to see them thriving.

To our amazing shelter manager, Alisha, and boyfriend Bill —thank you for giving Sammy and Moose the home they deserve. Your love has made this holiday season one they’ll never forget. 💕

🌟 A Heartfelt Thank You to Our Kennel Sponsor, Catharine Gauthier! 🌟

Today, we’re sending endless gratitude to Catharine for sponsoring the care of a very special girl: Bellatrix. 💖🐾

Meet Bellatrix:

Bellatrix arrived at our shelter with a past full of uncertainty. Semi-feral and unsure of people, she’s been on a quiet journey of learning to trust again. Day by day, this gorgeous 4-year-old cat has been warming up to our staff, showing glimpses of the sweet, gentle soul hidden beneath her nervous exterior.

Bellatrix has been with us for 165 days, and while her journey hasn’t been easy, we know there’s a perfect home out there for her—a quiet, patient place where she can finally feel safe and loved.

💖 Catharine’s sponsorship ensures that Bellatrix has everything she needs—nourishing meals, health checks, soft beds, enriching toys, and, most importantly, a safe space to heal. This support isn’t just about physical care; it’s about giving her hope for a brighter tomorrow.

Why adopt a bunny?
🌟 Give a rescue rabbit a second chance at a hoppy-ever-after.
🏠 Our shelter has 3 rabbits dreaming of a cozy, forever home.
💖 Adopted rabbits come spayed/neutered and ready to be your new best friend!

Fun bunny facts:
🐇 They can live 8-12 years (a whole decade of love and zoomies!).
🌱 They love snacking on hay and fresh veggies (instant garden buddy!).
💡 Rabbits are smart and playful—teach them tricks, build them tunnels, or just watch them binky with joy.

Today, we’d like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Julia Bates for her Single Cat Kennel Sponsorship! Thanks to Julia’s generosity, Luna Lovegood will receive all the care she needs while she patiently waits for her forever family. This sponsorship will cover Luna’s food, treats, monthly preventatives to keep her in tip-top shape, and, of course, the extra love she so richly deserves.

Many of you may recognize Luna from our posts or website. She’s been with us for 161 days since being rescued as a stray. When Luna first arrived, she was very pregnant and a bit wary of humans—but who could blame her? Shortly after coming to us, she gave birth to her adorable kittens and proved to be an incredible mom. Luna was fiercely dedicated, ensuring her little ones were well-fed and loved until they were ready for adoption. Her kittens quickly found homes, leaving Luna still waiting for her chance to shine.

At first, Luna was understandably protective and hesitant to trust, especially with her precious babies to care for. But as time passed and her kittens grew, Luna began to let her guard down. With patience and persistence, we’ve been able to earn her trust. While she still takes her time warming up to new faces, Luna has even started allowing occasional pets—a huge milestone for this cautious queen.

Luna adores the company of other cats and would thrive as part of a loving fur family. Could your home be the one she’s been waiting for? 🐾

We appreciate all the support from all of YOU. If you want to be a sponsor like Julia Bates and all of our other kennel sponsors, learn more here: https://www.animalorphanageoldtown.com/kennel-sponsorship
