Beginner Agility
You and your dogs can tackle any obstacle as a team! This class introduce dogs and handlers to playing the sport of agility. Focusing on safety, fun/reward-based learning, and bond building. Class will gradually introduce agility obstacles, handling techniques, and skill/stamina strengthening exercises. Coursework will build strong foundation for intermediate agility class.

Class Prerequisites:
Dog must be at least 6 months old.
Dog must have foundation of basic doggie manners (come, sit, stay, down, loose lead walking, and a word/sound for correct behavior such as ‘Yes!’ or ‘Good!’). Dogs must have either completed a basic obedience class or be able to demonstrate basic doggie manners in an evaluation before class (contact instructor to schedule).

Eight week curriculum is based on the AKC (American Kennel Club) Puppy S.T.A.R. program which emphasizes Socialization, Training, Activity, and Responsibility for pups and their owners. Class will meet for one hour each week.

Class Goals:
To help puppies and their owners get off to a good start by equipping owners with the basic knowledge and skills necessary to help their pups learn while achieving their AKC Star Puppy Certification. We also introduce games and exercises designed to set the groundwork for a lifetime of fun and adventure with your dog.

Class Prerequisites:
Puppies must be nine (9) months or younger on the first day of class. Proof of the initial core/puppy vaccination shots in process or completed is required; as well as a recent f***l sample which is negative for parasite.

Items Students Must Bring:
Puppy should be wearing a plain, flat buckle collar or harness. Leather or fabric leash, 4-5' in length. Plenty of small treats. Additional information provided upon acceptance into class.

Skills Taught:
Being a Responsible Dog Owner
Housetraining and crate training
How to deal with a pup's natural behaviors
Sit / Down / Come
Walking on a loose lead
Helping pups learn to listen to their owners around distractions and other dogs
Basic grooming techniques
Tips for maintaining your dog’s health throughout their lifetime
Basic confidence building exercises

Our first class of the fall is kicking off tomorrow! Stay tuned for more classes!

ORT (ODOR RECOGNITION TEST) PREP CLASS

TIME: SUNDAYS 6:30 PM

DATES: 8/25, 9/1, 9/8, 9/15

COST: $100 (+$5 service charge) for all 4 weeks


Training prep to pass the upcoming ORT test to be offered in September. Training is also good for teams competing in AKC container searches. Dogs must be on odor and ready to take the ORT test. Class can accommodate up to 6 students. A minimum of 2 is required to run the class. Drop ins will be available if space permits by contacting the instructor ahead of time.

AKC CGC Class
This seven week curriculum, one hour each week, is designed to teach the fundamentals required to pass the AKC CGC test. The eighth week will be the evaluation. (additional charge of $10 to the evaluator).

Class Goals: To prepare dog and handler to pass the AKC Canine Good Citizen (CGC) Test – which certifies the dog can be under the control of and respond to the handler in the presence of distractions – while building a positive relationship between dog and handler.

Class Prerequisites: Dogs must be six (6) months and over on the day of the first class. Puppies less than one (1) year old should have successfully completed a Puppy STARS class prior to enrollment; or be assessed for appropriate skill levels by the instructor. Proof of core puppy immunizations / boosters and rabies immunization required.

Items Students Must Bring: Dog must be on a plain, flat buckle collar or harness. Leash should be 4-5' in length of fabric or leather. Plenty of small training treats. Other information will be provided upon acceptance of enrollment in class.

Skills Taught:
• Accepting a "friendly stranger" who approaches
• Sitting politely for petting
• Allow a “friendly stranger” to briefly examine and brush them
• Walking on loose lead – alone and through a crowd
• Sit / Down / Stay
• Coming when called
• Acceptance of other dogs and various other distractions
• Ability to wait calmly with someone while owner goes out of sight
• Basic confidence building exercises
• Handler knowledge / skills will include:
• Recognizing stress signals in your dog
• Basic grooming techniques
• House training and crate training
• Some first aid basics

Join us for bi-monthly conformation (aka: dog show) handling classes Thursdays at 6:30pm. Professional handler Michelle “Missy” Hoelcle welcomes all teams – new and experienced alike – to learn and refine their show ring skills. All levels of AKC, CKC, UKC, IABCA, and 4-H participants are welcome.

Currently scheduled dates: Thursdays 6:30-7:30PM on May 16 & 30
Cost: $15 per dog. Junior handlers welcome, discount rate is $10.
Message us if you are interested in attending; we’ll send you sign up details and registration form.

Prerequisites:
Dog must be at least 8 weeks of age
Up-to-date on parvo, distemper, and rabies (if applicable) vaccines.
Negative f***l test within the last 6 months.
No previous obedience class or dog show experience necessary.

Beginner Foundations for Dog Sports

This class will prepare puppies or dogs and their handlers who have passed a puppy class (or have the skills to test into the class) prepare for a future in all kinds of dog activities. The skills learned in this class can translate to multiple sports/activities, be it agility, obedience, rally, dock diving, or something else. It is also an opportunity for students to explore options available and consider what sports they want to get into. This is a zero/low physical impact class geared towards puppies, but older dogs with the right experience level may be introduced to new obstacles. Skills that will be practiced include:

Beginning heel work
Targeting
Developing and utilizing drive
Proofing stays and recall with distance and distractions
Body awareness
Handling skills for the handler
Confidence building

This class is flexible and accommodates returning teams and new teams.

Friday Class starts May 10th at 6pm
Runs- May 10th, 17th, 24th, 31st, June 7th, 14th

Saturday Class starts June 1st
Runs- June 1st, 8th, 15th, 22nd, 29th, July 6th

Class runs for 1.5 hours

Older dogs that haven't had a puppy, cgc, obedience, or other training class will have to test in. Handlers should be able to gain the focus of their dogs and the dogs should be able to sit, have some stay, settle, and recall.

Only 5 dogs so instructor can get more one on one time with everyone as these skills take a lot of precision in timing.

This program is the beginning class for your young pup (up to one year old). There are 20 steps to success in this program including a responsible owner and a well-trained pup. All dogs who pass the evaluation will be enrolled in the AKC STAR program. Your pup will receive a medal, a frameable certificate, a puppy handbook and ongoing monthly emails. The STAR program is open to all pups purebreds and mixed breeds.
