The Isopods we keep are terrestrial crustaceans, not bugs, but both do belong to the phylum Arthropoda, translates into “jointed leg.” In our area of the Pacific Northwest, isopods are commonly called the roly poly or pill bug. However, Isopods go by many common names throughout the world. Many of our clients use Isopods in their vivariums and terrariums as tank janitors. Isopods will assist in cr

eating a more self-sustaining biotope by feeding off the display animals waste, leaf litter, and other organic materials. As they consume, Isopods empty nutrients from their own waste to benefit the health of the flora within any of the previously mentioned habitats. Especially the many species of isopods that burrow and create passageways throughout the substrate. Aiding in the overall health of the soil and the many organisms that depend on its composition. Basically, the waste of an Isopod essentially makes up plant fertilizer. Isopods help sustain the longevity of biotopes, and they themselves can become an occasional snack for the main inhabitant on display. Our species will be used for education, pet only, and the majority being used as the stated clean up crew. Please, always feel free to inquire about their care requirements and their husbandry. We started it all by keeping a few species of dwarf isopods within our own vivariums back in 2014. Evolving slowly, and eventually breeding over 130 species of Isopod. The majority going to fellow enthusiasts of different experience levels and for different bioactive purposes. Permitted with the PPQ526, I can legally sell, trade, and ship over state lines. We professionally pack all stock to handle shipping throughout the US, shipping cost will be determined by your zip code and the size of the selected shipping box (FEDEX PRIORITY OVERNIGHT or TWO DAY AIR OUTSIDE WASHINGTON). Our Isopods will be delivered in fully biodegradable standard 10oz cups (Not Their Forever Homes). We offer isopod enclosures as well. The habitat would include specific habitat requirements for the individual species, starting at $30 for our 160oz bin and $45 for 240oz bin (Custom Ventilated Bin, False Bottom, Seiryu Stone/Limestone Flats, Cork Flats, Leaf Litter, Carbon, Moss, Isopod Barracks Substrate). In addition, we sell two fully scaped glass enclosures with the selected species requirements in mind, LED lighting included. Please, message us for more details and inquire if interested. Armadillidae sp. {Ancient Gator} are at The Isopod Barracks. 🔥🏆🔥 I like their woolly skirting, this attribute makes it easy to distinguish them amongst the other available gators.

🙏Attention🙏

My last shipment goes out this upcoming Wednesday (5-29-2024). Reason being, the newest member to our family will be joining us in two weeks, another boy! Beyond elated…and we are so ready to bring our little dude home!

We are nearly sold out on our current availability list. I wanted to dwindle our populations as much as possible to assist with our maintenance time, and be absolutely present during this new chapter. Our climate controlled grow tents are all good to go, and I have a routine set for 12 day health/feed checks. We are hoping for some impressive population gains in late September.

Basically, for this three month time frame. I will be referring customers to reputable breeders that I trust wholeheartedly.

I may coordinate biweekly local pick ups, and will entertain an auction or two over my absence, but other than those events. All interactions will be referred to the individuals that I know in the isopod/springtail realm, and will refer based on who has been successful with the species being inquired about.

Thank you all for understanding and although a delay may be present in messenger. I am always here to assist and help guide our clients/community in the correct path, so never hesitate to ask us questions.

Now, over many years I have gained relationships within the invert community, but these are the individuals that go above and beyond in our specialized niche. Screenshot of a picture I took back in 2016. These were the isopods that started it all for us…we started rehoming this species to fellow enthusiast during the year of 2016. I did randomly keep Armadillidium vulgare and devils rice a year or two beforehand, but we started our entire venture because of these dwarf isopods. 🙏

Helleria brevicornis are one of the most interesting species in our entire collection. One of the largest terrestrial species that can fully enclose themselves into a ball…along with being one of the heaviest known terrestrial isopods. Also, the one and only species in the genus. The female of this species has a single brood within her entire lifetime and they have some of the most remarkable parental instincts when compared to many other isopods/invertebrates. Extremely fascinating species, and is definitely a heavy contender, ranked in our top 5 favorite species. 🙏

Happy Holidays Everyone!!!
I wanted to share a few updates. All orders for shipment, delivery, and pick up will resume in January, 2024. Due to the overwhelmed delivery services, making it difficult to guarantee shipment dates. Severe weather conditions in specific regions, and last yet the most important factor…spending time with our family and loved ones during the holidays. One thing we like to do for our clients, sending pictures and videos before we send their shipment. This allows them to see the quality and the size of their exact culture. Yesterday, we had a new experience at The Isopod Barracks. We supplied a previous client with Armadillidium vulgare (Punta Cana). They will be apart of a behavioral lab study for all of their biology classes at a local high school. I am glad we could assist the high school with their fun and purposeful project🙏 💥 All of the Isopods seen here, were in these cups for counting purposes only.
