Been a little hectic around here! Four does kidded in the last week! So fare we have 4 doelings and 4 buckling. I do have a couple amazing buckling available as new herd sire prospects! These are boys I would keep in my herd if I could use them, but sadly they’re too related for me to use anytime soon sad 😔. I also have one doeling available! More information coming!

I’ve been pretty quiet the last few months as I ponder dealing with chronic back pain and trying to figure out ways to address it. Kidding season will start here late next week with four girls due! The doe I am most excited about is Lily. I did a repeat breeding to Lakeshore Beauty of the Game! Sadly, Gamer was euthanized early fall due acute illness that couldn’t be fixed. He was at OSU for treatment. All I can say is I’m grateful he covered this for a few days before he got ill!

Current planned January kiddings include:

Lumiya x Gamer
Coraline (FF) x Mathew
Adi x Absinthe
Lexus x Absinthe

Tube Feeding Neonatal Small Ruminants: An Essential Skill for Sheep and Goat Farmers (by Susan Kerr, DVM)

It is essential that sheep and goat producers learn how to tube feed young animals. This simple procedure can often save a young animal’s life, thereby increasing lambing and kidding crop rates and enhancing profitability. With a brief amount of instruction and a little practice, even children can perform this crucial task quickly, safely and effectively.

Finding a doe aborting is never in my deck of cards and always a worry this time of year. No fun for any of us! Such an unfortunate thing to happen and we can only hope we aren’t dealing with an unknown issue rearing its head in my barn. She’s in a pen and can see her friends as she’s not finished, I’ll check on her before bed, but her appetite is good as she grabbed the grain scoop from my hand like a kid in the candy store getting a free sucker 🤣. I’m hoping I can bring her into milk as I’m not a fan of breeding her back this late in the season.

This was quite the learning curve. I think I made some butter but the house is warm so I had to use some tricks to get the buttermilk out of it. It tastes good with some salt and I’m sure it’ll work!

I bought this during COVID and never used it! Finally decided today is the day!
