Was very convinced, when these first germinated, that we had an excellent, but scattered (maybe we had accidentally spilled seed?) crop of carrots coming in…

still excellent, still scattered but this patch is definitely dill that reseeded itself from the spring season😅

all’s well- now we’re hosting a jungle gym of swallowtail caterpillars 🐛🤸‍♂️

What’s that? You tire of the monotony of the abundance that is summer potatoes?! Fear not, this potato is in a category of its own. It far surpasses the base characteristics of starchy vegetables. For it is a golden hour potato and as it sits in its golden hour we should be reminded that there is no monotony in potatoes! or

thank you for understanding.

Each season brings its own challenges to growing food. We both want to be able to better navigate these challenges when they arise. Using conservation practices in the field is one way we know would help.

Thanks to and a handful of other partner organizations we were both accepted into the Center for Rural Affairs 2022 Beginning Farmers Conservation Fellowship. We’re excited to expand our understanding of conservation as we strive to grow food in a way that is best for the environment that sustains us and the community that relies on us as farmers.

It’s been a productive and exciting week. With our 2nd CSA until our belt, we’re really starting to figure out our rhythm and team dynamic.
Our summer crops are in, the fam came out to plant, we got the flowers blooming. We’re feeling grateful and ready for a restful weekend ✨

Last night was our first pickup of the season🥹 what a feeling it is to be one small part of a worldly network of food. Meeting our members was such a highlight. Growing local food with intention was our motivation in the beginning. Having met the people who believe in what we’re doing gives working through the hard parts of this a whole new perspective.

Next up! the number of people involved in helping this happen and so beautifully (!) is far more than the two of us. To all the humans on and off Instagram, thank you for lifting us when you could. We are looking forward to when we can return the favors. and the non instagrammers.

Gratitude to the both of us as well- We keep showing up 🌱 That speaks volumes.

See (some of) you next Thursday!

Snap shots of working through and with what nature sends our way. Beets, cabbage, and peas are some crops that are in their element right now.

As for us, we are in our element of trying, observing, and learning. So we stay forever wide eyed and muddy.

Today we're catching Facebook up with our season so far.. since being on the plot and able to work the soil we have built out about half of our raised garden beds. Starting with 5 we are at 13 now and all of them are filled with crops to stock our CSA shares. Everything we are growing besides potatoes and onions (we purchased seed potatoes and onion slips from Fedco Seeds which come to us basically in their first stages and then we see them through to harvest on our plot) were started from seed. it has been so nice to be able to finally sow seeds directly in the soil and transition crops we started months ago in the greenhouse, to the field.

The rain, the heat, the dry, the cold- It can be everything all within a week but we are here for it and honestly so are these crops. Look at these fine rows of germination! Broccolini, radish, mustard greens, bok choy, spinach, + others are getting their calisthenics in with these blzzings of rain lately.

Hey rain days, we 💚 you.

Thinking about these past weeks and months in the midsts of these spring showers and acknowledging how far we’ve come. We have been putting in physical, mental, and emotional worrrrrrrk🫱🏾‍🫲🏻Bed by bed your CSA shares are coming together.

Thanks to everyone who is following and supporting us through this experience. We 💚 you like growers love the rain.

We do these things in waves 🌊 start seeds, wait, start seeds, wait, watch. Repeat. The sequence may change and it can get complicated with lots of crops involved but we’re metaphorically surfing, y’know?

Some of the veggies and herbs we already have going will be what carry you through the season! You like to pickle? We’ve got your dill. You make a killer summer salsa? Try it with these Roma toms🍅

We are intentional to make all of the seeds we use organic and sourced from growers as local to us as possible. Check us outttt link always in bio🤌

It’s feeling nice outside in Omaha! We’re getting the initial feelings of summer around the corner (hopefully). So! We want to share our 2022 CSA flyer with everyone. If you make the image full screen and put your face as close as possible you might be able to imagine you are the one holding the basket of tomatoes in the sun. Maybe. Let us know.

Our 2022 CSA sign up is streamlined through the QR code we included. When you scan the code with your phone camera it will link you to our CSA terms- which you should read if you want to become a member. Then our CSA agreement- which you need to fill out if you know you will be signing up with us for any part of the growing season (you can join us for spring, summer, fall or all three).

Never hesitate to reach out to us.

Hey friends, we have joined the fb meta verse... not sure how we feel about it (about the meta verse. Not the growing. We are very into the growing). Follow along with us as Jazz and I jump into another year of growing for a 30 member CSA.

We are Jazz Marr and Katie Bettin. We both grew up in Omaha but didn't meet until we became co- farmers in an urban farm residency program. That was 2020. Since then we have both held our interest in growing produce in the city. We took the last 2 years to pursue our own separate efforts and now in 2022 we've teamed up to start the process of helping create and be a part of something bigger in agriculture in Omaha.

This year would not be possible without the help of Benson Bounty who, for our 2022 growing season, is sharing their land with us so we can grow the produce that will stock your weekly CSA boxes. Below is a picture of where we'll be at. This picture was taken in January. We're excited to show you the transition into warmer weather and getting our crops in the soil.

This season is the first step that will take us to our next step. The funds we are able to raise from supplying 30 CSA shares this year will go towards helping us secure land in Omaha to continue to build out ours and others work in the future.

All the best veggies,
Jazz & kt
