I am so excited to be alive!
Cold mornings so warm milk, cuttles with mom, and a homemade incubator are much enjoyed by the babies.
7 babies in 24 hours! Another kidding season behind us. The miracle of it all is always inspiring. The babies are born and the mothers--even the first time mothers--immediately know to lick them and a previously unused utterance comes intuitively from the throat of the mother as she licks. It is a grunt, an urgent and unique message of coaxing love that she may somehow remember hearing when she was moments old. They all know to do it, as if to say, "Live...stand....try...I am mom.." Only moments old the babies know to struggle up on wobbly legs. Under mom they know to fumble until they find milk...and that first milk warms them and their tails go wild. So amazing.
So cute when they are little!
We made a point to plant pollinator friendly plants in our landscape beds and orchard. Love that we are seeing more pollinators settling into home here. Our own bees are everywhere, and today we discovered this little guy and a friend enjoying our Butterfly Bush. Never seen this species before. Remember being a child and being delighted and transfixed when you discovered a whole new "bug"? Where does that awe go and why do we let it go?
So much in the world around us that we all miss and are disconnected from.
