Did you know that the salts commonly used to melt ice can cause stomach upset like vomiting or diarrhea? It can also cause irritation to paws or even burns!

Petsmart is proud to carry veterinarian developed Morton Safe-T-Pet which is a way to melt ice and snow without using chloride or dangerous salts.

It’s getting HOT out there!

Omaha is expecting temperatures to reach the triple digits this week so keep all your furry pets inside and hydrated as much as possible.

But what does that mean for any reptiles in your life? Can you skip turning on UVB lights?

No, it is important to continue your reptiles UVB light routine. Current EPA standards require glass windows to filter out many of the needed UV rays for your reptile; this is what creates energy efficiency for your home. While UVA will pe*****te the glass, UVB will not and that is what your reptile needs!

Absorbing these UV rays is what makes it possible for your reptiles body to manufacture the vitamin D3 required for proper calcium absorption. Without this your reptile can face life threatening illness like metabolic bone disease (MBD).

UVB lights should be replaced anywhere from 3-6 months depending on brand. Questions about what the best UVB lights are for your reptile? Stop by the store!

Did you know that calming chews can provide a reduction in stress and anxiety for some pets?

If your pet struggles to relax when fireworks are going off there is a large variety of chewable calming treats available to ease that stress. We carry and chewable a as well as many other brands. We’ve got options!

So when should you give these treats? Typically these should be given 30-90 minutes before a stressful event and they last 4-8 hours depending on the pet.

If your pet needs the help of something a little stronger, we recommend reaching out to your veterinarian to go over medication options. This is a stressful time of year for pets and their parents - it’s okay to need a little extra help!
