Wow! We are absolutely blown away with everyone’s enthusiasm about our sassy little friend Bobbie! As promised, here’s another little kitten we are helping. Her name is Mouse. She’s the only survivor of her litter and she is about as precious as she can possibly be.

Mouse loves other kitties and when she’s not busy cuddling her big foster brother Glacier in bed she’s working hard to become best friends with Bobbie.

Rest assured we give all the kitties many many snuggles, and we are very patient as we help them with their medical issues and their adjustment to being inside 😻

Who is this stunning girl?

Glad you asked. This is Cougar! The last of the (infamous) porch cats from the big colony we’ve been working at for years. She had a couple of small babies when we got her and we weren’t sure she was friendly but she showed us! She is an absolute gem. We’ve been supporting her and getting her used to the inside life and now she getting ready to go to Felius.

It’s been amazing watching her get more comfy inside. We love her so much!

Did you know that managed cat colonies can have similar life expectancies to those of household cats? It’s true! Studies show that cats who go through TNVR programs can live 6+ years! By neutering colony cats, you can reduce mating behaviors, risk of roaming, and adverse health issues.

If you’re interested in learning more about how to keep your colony cats healthy without the risk of overpopulation, stop by our celebration at Beercade on December 29th. Details in the second slide. 🥳 Shoutout to our friend, supporter, and host extraordinaire , who will be donating their tips to our mission!

Meet Sully! He is the second cat we’ve found to have a broken tail and exposed bone. He is heading to our friends at Lone Tree to see about an amputation.

Both cats with this issue came from the same location, and we have contacted the appropriate authorities in case there is some sort of human involvement with these two. Shoutout to the awesome Rescuer who alerted us and is dedicated to keeping Sully off the streets. This boy is simply too sweet to be living outdoors!

As we’ve said before, these kinds of procedures are expensive. We are so, so happy to help when things come up, but we can’t do it without support from our community. If you are thinking about donating this holiday season, know that your donations go toward cats like Sully who desperately need our help.

Last night was crazy, right? We’re thinking about Omaha’s community cats and the caretakers who provide shelter for them. Providing shelter for community cats can reduce the likelihood of them burrowing into less-than-ideal spots (I.e.- underneath sheds or houses 😬.)

Good shelters are small, insulated, and waterproof. Less extra space makes it easier for the cat to generate body heat and keeps things cozy. Things like styrofoam coolers and straw are great insulation tools when building cat shelters!

Other tips include:
Face the shelter towards a wall so that it is away from the wind.
Elevate the shelter or cover it with a tarp to keep it from getting wet.
Weigh down lightweight shelters so they don’t blow away!

A couple of months ago, we took some time to wrap up a colony that we had helped off and on. In just one kitten season a few unspayed queens had a lot of kittens and we knew we had to get it under control fast.

We were able to grab eight kittens by hand and worked hard to socialize them so that they could eventually become adoptable, in addition to fully vetting them. It was not always easy (they had bad URIs), but it was 100% worth it. We really love these babies, and we are so excited to share that a couple of them have landed at in search of their forever homes.

Aiden, Ava, Annie, Aurora, and Astra, we couldn’t be more proud of you!

Hey, let’s hang out sometime! And by that we mean December 29th at ! We want to tell you all about what we’ve been up to in 2024 (hint: A LOT of cool things). This is a chance to get to know the people behind our organization and get answers to all your burning questions. Our good friend and host of this event, , is kindly donating their tips to our mission. Come on down and let’s talk about community, cats, and community cats! We can’t wait to see you there! 😸

The temperature keeps dropping and snow will be here before we know it! If you’re looking for ways to keep your community cats safe and healthy this winter, we suggest this :

Worried about water bowls freezing or lack of water sources for your outdoor colonies? Heated water bowls are a great way to keep community cats hydrated during the colder months. Pair this with a nice, insulated shelter and your feral friends will be toasty!

If you do not have access to a heated device and/or outlet where your colony is, we suggest setting bowls inside smaller styrofoam containers to slow the freezing process. Doing this and changing the water frequently is a big help!

**SUPER big tip: avoid metal bowls for food and water during winter months! We don’t want any cat tongues 👅 stuck to bowls this season!**

THANK YOU to everyone who donated to us for Giving Tuesday! The money donated to us will go directly to helping community cats and kittens.

In our final post for ’s , we want to highlight two very special kittens, Piper and Sarge. These two babies, along with a bunch of other kittens of various ages, were dumped with a single mama who could not be expected to keep up with all the needs of many kittens.

As a TNVR organization, we work very hard to get friendly cats and kittens into safe places. As we’ve mentioned many times before, sometimes we need to do extra vetting to ensure we can get them off the street. These two little cuties need all the additional vetting help they can get and that is on us. Piper in particular has a series of challenges, in addition to her eye infection. Her lower incisors are puncturing her soft pallet and will need to be addressed when she’s a little bit older. We are worried this is causing her pain and we are doing everything we can to help ensure she has a good outcome.

We are not a foster organization and our focus is on community cats. But we cannot deny our involvement in helping already-born kittens. We have helped over 100 cats get into adoption rescues this year and a lot of the financial burden on making sure they’re ready to go falls on us.

We are so grateful to everyone who has donated and supported us. Please know that we put that money to good use helping community cats and kittens alike.

Trap 👏 Neuter 👏 Vaccinate 👏 Return 👏

is well underway! We are humbly asking for your help to support community cats in the Omaha area. The biggest way that we help cats roaming our community is through TNVR. Some benefits of this service to colony cats are:

♥️ Reduced behaviors such as fighting, yowling, and spraying

♥️ Less kittens being born on the streets in vulnerable conditions

♥️ Decreased chance of preventable adverse health issues

You can donate directly through our website (straytospay.org) or go to shareomaha’s website. Any amount helps and we appreciate it all!

courtesy of shareomaha is officially in action! Today is a great day to spread some love and give to some great organizations. Without generous donations from community members like you, we wouldn’t be able to save cats like Tom Tom.

Tom Tom, our FIV positive loverboy, came from a rough area. Upon inspection of his wonky eye, we discovered buckshot in it. He was too friendly to return to his colony, but needed a confidence boost to really thrive indoors.

Fast forward almost 3 years, and now he’s a chatty, confident guy living with our founder, Rachel. We couldn’t be more proud of the progress he’s made!

If you want to directly contribute to helping cats like Tom Tom, we encourage you to donate via Share Omaha’s website or our website. Links below.

Happy Thanksgiving! Today and every day we are thankful for the people who support us and our mission. We love that we get to help our community through the process of TNVR. Helping others (both humans and felines) is what truly makes it all worthwhile.
