Should I groom my double-coated dog in the winter?
YES!
A dog's double coat works in cold weather by providing insulation through a dense undercoat that traps warm air close to the skin, keeping the dog warm even in frigid temperatures; the longer, coarser top coat further protects against moisture and wind chill, acting as a barrier against the elements.
This double coat system works best if it’s thoroughly brushed and clean! If the undercoat is matted at the skin, there is no way to trap warm air.
