Pinto and Aj’s parents have been absolutely rockin’ it! With a baby on the way, they have been making great use of their time to work with the pups and their leash skills.
Aj is 1 and Pinto is 7 and we have been working on some leash manners and coexisting together. Aj is quite the party animal and Pinto isn’t always in the mood to party, so teaching these two how to walk nicely together sure is helping their bond and calmness. Just look at how nicely they are walking! We are very pleased with how well they are doing together, keep it up!

We have been practicing accessibility with Wally and he has been doing a great job with the elevators. As a service dog in training, we want these pups to be confident and fearless when taking on moving contraptions. Wally in particular is always in some kind of shenanigans with us and he’s always here for it. Good boy Wally!

There’s no better feeling than receiving a nice compliment while in action working a dog. Wally received SO many compliments from passersby at the park on how well mannered and focused was.
As a service dog in training, why is it important to work these dogs unvested? Because we are teaching our service dogs the difference between; working and being a dog. Dogs being dogs should be able to have the opportunity to be a dog as that’s what they are. Training with us, their vest is a crucial part of their training that helps them understand their working demeanor and tasks as a service dog. Just because the vest is off, doesn’t mean they no longer have to listen.
Wally was on his absolute A game and with all the distractions of kids, people and dogs nearby. He maintained his position and focus when asked and we are so pleased with his growth.

Seeing double?! Yeah, we are too. Welcome Ted and Brea! These two Husky/ Cattle dogs are participating in training with us for; leash skills and dog reactivity.
Brea is very sassy, extremely food driven and is always looking towards our hands for any little snack. Ted is pretty chill and laid back. Both of these pups overall are so well mannered and the amount of work and time their mom has put into them definitely shows. However, their mom has had some issues being able to walk both dogs at the same time as Brea can be a bit reactive towards other dogs while on a walk in which Ted thinks he needs to react as well.
We tried some new leads for these pups and threw mom a curve ball when we felt that she had what it takes to walk them at the same time. Walking 2+ dogs at the same time can make anyone feel uneasy but we are here to encourage and motivate our clients that, you can do it! After a few exercises, mom was able to walk both dogs with ease.
We had a great first session together and we’re looking forward to the next one. Welcome Ted, Brea and family!

Utilizing long lines as well as a fence barrier is a great way to help with; dog introductions and social skills. When it comes to socializing one’s dogs, too many people think that entails taking their dogs to a dog park or doggy daycare for social skills when unfortunately, this is not the case. Why is it necessary for your dog to interact with other strangers dogs you know nothing about and won’t ever see again? Have you ever met the dogs and owners of the dogs your dog is with in daycare? Probably not. Gets you thinking now doesn’t it.
Dog parks and doggy daycare are not social skills. Social skills consist of you being a leader and advocate to your dog by exposing them to; sounds, textures and smells in new environments while in your control. Did you know a dog can be socialized without ever needing to physically play/ interact with another dog? Having your dog in a controlled environment with doggy friends your pet actually knows, is what is going to help your dog learn now to be introduced and interact properly with other pets. Your dog parks and doggy daycares are a great way to teach your dog how to run, jump and bark at everyone around them and never learn something called, RECALL!
Jackson and Augie are from the same family. Both have been participating in training with us for social skills and fearful reactivity. Augie has gained so much confidence in himself and how to be able to coexist with other dogs he knows. Jackson has been learning how to manage his uncertainties with his neighboring dog, Finn. Having these pups on long lines allows them to have freedom within reason but still be in our total control if they become anxious or overstimulated so we can properly correct them.
This example here is going to help you understand your dog’s behaviors and better your relationship together. Looking to have a better bond with your dog in social situations and environments? We’d love to help you!

Just look at little Augie go! His walking skills have turned him into one confident pup. Augie previously participated in our board & train program for; social skills, leash skills and fearfulness and we are now working from home.
Augie can get pretty amped up when there’s a knock at the door and he now knows that when someone is there, he’s to sit in his place and nicely wait for his guests to come in. His mom has been incredibly happy with seeing Augie grow for the better. Keep it up you two!

Out for a stroll with Miss Bella and Louie. Bella has been learning how to make new friends, walk on lead and manage her self control. Louie was very excited about his walk so he was doing his absolute best with his own self control.
This here is a great way to work on social skills. Social skills doesn’t mean constant play and engaging with others. A simple walk and minding one’s business is what will help a dog learn how to be around others and how to manage their emotions and excitement.

Wally had himself quite a big day!! Wally is a 5 month old Golden Retriever who is participating in our service dog program. We had an outing for training to work through his current skills we’ve been focusing on at home and now applied them in a new environment surrounded by lots of people, sounds and distractions. Wally has been superb with his noise testing training that he was put through during his board & train and being in a public setting for the first time with all these new sounds was absolutely no bother to him. Just look at his sit, stay and focus! Way to go Wally and handler!

Look at little Jackson GO! Jackson had such a great session working through his fence reactivity and that his barking and reactions are completely unnecessary.
We were greatful to be able to borrow his neighboring dog, Finn, a 1 year old Black Labrador whom Jackson has the biggest beef with. Why is this you ask? Because Finn is a happy go lucky pup and Jackson feels the need to be the fun police and charge the fence when he comes over to visit. Jackson was able to make many passes by Finn with zero reactions! This is a little something we like to call, progress. Teaching a dog self control when making decisions is not something that comes easy. There’s truly no better feeling than seeing all your training efforts and consistency come through for all the goals you’ve been looking to achieve. Way to go Jackson! And thanks for your help Finn!

Stop validating your dog’s fears. If a dog acknowledges a sound and reacts to it out of fear, stop saying, it’s okay it’s okay. All you’re teaching the dog is that it’s okay to be afraid. Let a dog problem solve all on their own terms by allowing them to process and express themselves without your added words. The more words you give them, the more they may panic. Let them process their uncertainties by themselves to realize the sounds are not a threat, they will grow stronger through it. In this scenario with Stanley we get a complete different reaction than his brother Wally who went through this same testing process. I don’t say anything, I simply give treats next to these unknown objects and let Stanley figure things out for himself.
This type of testing can stress a dog out and it’s not intended to scare the living daylights out of them as we are not antagonizing them through their fears. A dog should go through the three R’s of an emotional state; reaction, response, recover. The reaction; acknowledgment towards a sound, response; barking or fleeing from the sounds, recover; the shake off in which a dog decompresses themselves from the unknown scare. Everyone wants nothing more than to assure and encourage their dog through a stressful event but sometimes the encouragement they need is to figure things out without your help.
Need help with your dogs uncertainties, anxieties and fears? We can help!

Noise sensitivity and desensitization testing.

Wally has been a busy little guy! Just as we recently discussed desensitization with sounds working with Wally, this same concept can be similar in teaching a dog how to wear a leash and collar as you want these items to be a fun and positive experience. Did you know; for a dog to wear a leash, collar, harness, vest or whatever equipment you like; it’s 100% unnatural for them? Yep, it is! Why do you think dogs pull so much? Because too many people try to utilize a harness as their first piece of training equipment with their dog which only encourages pulling. A harness is designed for a dog to “pull” with ease, such as working sled dogs. Thats how a body harness originated. If you’d like your dog to learn how to nicely walk on a lead, teach them what the equipment is before applying leash pressure. Because all they know by natural instincts, is to pull against the tension, no matter what the lead is. Proper loose pressure control to begin will only allow the dog to grow better and better with different techniques and leads on their body.
For Wally, as he is participating in our service dog program, we utilize a vest only for labeling them as a working dog. When the vest is on, I’m working, is what this teaches our dogs. No main leash pressure ever comes from it. Wally has now begun his learning process of what a; leash, collar, gentle lead and body vest are. We are letting him become acclimated to these items all on his own learning that he can still move freely without any restrictions. If you notice between this video and his desensitization video (behind the music for fun) the most important thing to note about those videos is; not a single word was spoken to Wally. Why, because too much unnecessary attention via talking is what is the beginning of teaching a dog to over process something. If you have a reactive or fearful dog, you probably talk to much as your dog is actively reacting. This only hypes dogs up to try and process more than what’s nec
Noise stimulation and desensitization with a puppy. (The following ASMR sounds are extremely obnoxious.) This is an audible training process that diminishes an emotional responsiveness to a potential negative stimulus to make it a positive stimulus after repeated exposure.
Loud sounds can startle anyone at any time. Teaching a puppy to adapt to these unexpected and unpredictable sounds at a young age is what will help desensitize them to their surroundings. For any dog, the more exposure they receive, the better they will adapt. When it comes to service dog training, all our handlers go through this process and exercise to teach the dog and handler as a team, how to adapt to an unpredictable situation and or environment. We want all our service dogs to be fearless and confident when it comes to unpredictably. If a dog is frightened by something, they can loose sight of a medical alert or episode with their handler.
Wally, as you see, was fearless and entertained by all these sounds and stimulation. This was his first desensitization training and he did an amazing job working through these sounds. As objects are thrown and making sounds, treats are tossed for positive feedback and engagement as Wally investigates each item. The fact that Wally picks up some of these items is an engagement response for him to recognize the positive value through this exposure and to not be frightened.

Just look at little Wally go! This little pup will do anything for a treat and has come along way already with his basics and puppy manners.
This 10 week old Golden Retriever is participating in our service dog board & train program. We’ve been working on; sit/ stay, down/ stay (while adding movement) focus, self control and recall. He knows exactly when it’s time to buckle down and work and he absolutely loves it. Dogs are beings whom are in need of a job. If they don’t have a job, this can make it difficult for a dog to listen let alone learn. Wally’s progress is growing little by little each day and all it takes is something called, consistency.

Say hello to Walter, (aka Wally)! He is a 10 week old Golden Retriever who is currently participating in our service dog board & train program. This handsome little fella is so smart and motivated to learn. We worked on alot of puppy basics and manners such as; sit, down, focus and coming when called. Walter here is siblings with Stan (Louie’s new puppy brother- SDiT), if you’ve been following their service dog journey with us. Walter will also be eventually joining Team Waffles, service dog alumni of ours, at school together in the near future and we cannot wait until we get to work with both of these teams together.
We’ve been anxiously awaiting these new pups and they have finally arrived to their families to begin their training with us. We’re extremely excited, as always, to be working with Wally Walter’s handler to help assist her needs through a service dog. He’s definitely going places. Be sure to like and follow our page for more updates on these new service dog teams!

Many behaviors that a dog may display can appear as one thing but is actually more important than one may recognize. When it comes to behaviors seen in this video it is easily misinterpreted as excitement when this actually is anxiety and mental OCD. There is a difference between; excitement, anxiety and excitement because of anxiety. What can be causing this behavior? This was an impression behavior learned by a resource, food.
Hank here, a 3 year old Labrador/ Poodle, came into our care from one of our partners for an evaluation for food aggression, and resource management. When Hank joined his first home at about 3-4 months of age and in that household was another dog whom already had resource guarding issues when it came to food. If Hank was too close, this other dog redirected on him, consistently bullied him and due to this situation occurring over and over again, without reinforcements or corrections, it left an impression on Hank that this is how he’s supposed to handle these situations when food is involved creating a life long behavior, a competition and food obsession. Hank one day was returned to his breeder who witnessed his food aggression concerns and found his way into a new home informing the new owners of his food issues. Hank continued his food guarding behaviors towards the pets in his new home and began displaying these spinning behaviors any time food was about to be involved with him. The family thought this was just excitement and ended up marking these behaviors by rewarding him with food as he was actively displaying these behaviors thinking, it’s cute, he’s excited. This is how his OCD developed more and more through a learned behavior of another dog’s reaction with severe food aggression. Hank’s actions created a further development of anxiety due to the first dog he lived with who encouraged these behaviors for Hank leaving Hank to feel he must compete for food around him resulting in guarding.
The spinning seen in the follo
Not too shabby for a 6 year old handler, eh?!
Cyrus is 6 months old now (service dog in training) who is on a mission to help his handler with Autism. We have mentioned before that getting an autistic handler to hold a leash can be a challenging task as the textures of the lead can feel funny to them due to sensory issues or the leash around their shoulders or waist can make them feel constricted. This session was absolutely amazing and we think it’s pretty self explanatory in the following video to see Cyrus’s handler walking and steering him around different areas.
Giving directions to an autistic handler can make them shut down as they feel it is a demand to do something that will make them feel more vulnerable in an uncertain environment or situation. Giving Cyrus’s handler gentle, yet specific directions during this session was a HUGE breakthrough with his autism. We are beyond proud of this kid and the efforts and strides he is making all thanks to Cyrus assistance.
