It's Pet Dental Health Month! Dental disease is very common in our pets & just looking in the mouth can frequently miss issues. Dental x-rays are critical to finding these problems so they can be properly addressed. The dog pictured just appears to have gingivitis but x-rays show aggressive infection that has ate away the bone & other structures surrounding these teeth.

Joey, the chatty feline, reminded us today of how vocal some cats can be. Although this is often a benign trait, it can also communicate health problems. It's hard to believe this handsome guy nearly died. We diagnosed him with FIP, a historically fatal condition. Thanks to advancements with medication & a committed owner, he's doing great & nearly finished with his 84 day treatment protocol.

Supplements & vitamins can have many beneficial effects, but can also be dangerous. These products are largely unregulated & can NOT claim to treat a condition or disease. The FDA recently addressed this with a number of companies but it's difficult to catch them all. Please make sure to let us know of any supplements that you give your pet.

Today, the FDA posted warning letters sent to six firms selling unapproved drugs that claim to treat and control seizures in dogs and cats.

Multiple reports of pets getting sick or dying from raw pet food or milk contaminated with avian influenza have resulted in multiple food recalls. If you feed raw to your pets we strongly recommend you reconsider, & look for a pasteurized/cooked product!

Los Angeles public health officials warned against consuming “all raw milk and raw meat products and not feed these to their pets.”

It's time again for our Santa Paws donation event!
December 16-January 2nd drop off food, blankets, toys, ect for our local rescues like Little White Dog Rescue & Golden Retriever Rescue in Nebraska (GRRIN). These donations go a long way in helpful the rescues help as many pets as possible find their foverer home!

Small breed dogs are particularly prone to dental disease; often in need of a professional cleaning by 2 years old. As a result they are at high risk of losing teeth over their lifetime. Routine professional cleanings & at home care with tooth brushing, dental rinses or water additives all help reduce the chance of advanced dental disease & need for tooth extraction.
