Please add salt to your horse’s diet 🖤

Did you know…

An 1,100-pound horse needs to consume a 2-pound block each month just to meet minimum sodium requirements in moderate temps and in no work.

TWO POUNDS of a salt block every MONTH! For reference, the small rectangle salt blocks are 4lbs each.

Many horses are sodium deficient, which is concerning since sodium is important for nerve and muscle function as well as hydration.

Since blocks aren’t actually designed for a horse’s soft tongue and it’s hard to measure consumption, top dressing your horse’s feed with plain white loose salt at a rate of 1 tablespoon per 500lbs of body weight per day will help meet your horse’s daily sodium requirement.

The true testament to the heart of a mare, this one! We gained so much understanding of one another during our Florida training, and began to find moments of that in the PSG — an ultimate test of our new skills. We had winning moments, and learning moments, arguably both just as important. thank you for your support and cheerleading, and bringing this lovely horse’s heart to the surface in your care! More fun and growth to come 🕺🏻

What is the biggest takeaway from my time in Florida? If I put my mind to it, and attempt to eloquently summarize, it might be this concept:
The magic of dressage happens in the release and ease phase; when the energy between you and the horse becomes the beauty.
I had major breakthroughs understanding this concept in moments of piaffe, half pass, but also the “basics,” such as shoulder fore and walking.
I’m feeling some nostalgia already! The horses and I are at home trying to resume “normal” scheduling, and I’m intercepted with a sick toddler and frigid temps. Oh well.
Ever thankful for the funding from and excited to undergo the leadership training to come during the cold months ahead.
Spending time with Sarah Martin Dressage is always an honor, but so meaningful to spend concentrated time with my mentor and four horses in training. The training we accomplished was life changing, but more meaningful and priceless was the coaching and mentorship.
