Dear Stella,
While I know you can't read this, perhaps you'll perceive it somehow in the ethos. We've become close friends, you and I, and I'm grateful. Weather permitting, once a week, we visit go visit patients. I know it's not your favorite activity. There's no ball to chase, no frisbee to catch, no running around having fun. What there is is people who are somewhere they don't want to be, dealing with things they don't want to have to deal with. And you, in your loving and gentle way, make that day a little easier. For a brief moment, you help them think about something besides why they're there. For a moment, perhaps some don't feel their pain quite as much, maybe they're less worried for a minute or two. But most importantly, all the people you meet, patients, nurses, Dr's, everyone, receives a little love from you, a little light in a dark place. Love is medicine you can't get from any pill or injection. No multi-billion dollar pharmaceutical companies can give them that, but you can, and do, every single visit. I think we'll be able to go again next week. Hear some more stories, get some treats, and share some love. I love you, and I'm proud of you. Not because I'm your "trainer" but because I'm your friend.

Stella working as a therapy dog at the V.A. hospital. She goes once a week to visit the Dr's, Nurses, and Patients and share a little love. She's a very special dog.

Temperatures are finally trending upwards. I'll be throwing the doors open to new dogs very soon. Sorry about the wait, I look forward to meeting more new dogs and their families over the coming weeks.

Sorry everyone but I've been unable to get to any sessions. Here's the story: Ignition switch on my car broke. Because it's a VW I was told the dealer was who I'd need to contact. I was told "A day or two, $557" OK not great, but ok. Got it towed in, price shot up, and now days have become weeks, and still no car! Not allowed pets in the loaner car, I can't risk a scratch on the leather anyway. So until they can get my part and install it, I'm dead in the water. Latest word is, no end in sight, part back ordered, I'm s*** outta luck.

Let's Talk About Leashes!
Please, try and think of leashes like car seat belts, they're a safety device, not a control device. They're there in case something goes wrong. You don't lock your seat belt to pin you to the seat, so don't keep a tight leash to hold your dog in place. With work you can go from walking your dog, or your dog walking you, to you and your dog walking together. It's a much more pleasant experience for all involved.

Kingston is an excellent student and will be graduating soon. Here he's holding a stay downtown. I find the new park to be an excellent training environment with every distraction imaginable, and room to work. I'm there almost daily, sometimes 2 or more times in a day.

Just a couple storm tips prior to this evenings potential weather. Interior room, music can help muffle some of the noise. Careful with attempts to "comfort" your dog. Petting while telling your dog "It's OK, it's OK" is perceived by your dog as "Yes, you're behaving in a manner I agree with and encourage". Try instead getting your dog into work or play mode. High value treats, new chews etc can also help distract some dogs.

Sorry it's been so long since I've posted, winter weather puts me into a kind of one day at a time mode. Now that we're thawing out, it's time to get back into full swing. My apologies to folks stuck waiting, and of course the weather's still hit and miss at this point but as the days grow longer and warmer my schedule will expand. So to those still needing or wanting my help, if we haven't spoken recently please contact me again. I look forward to a productive year, meeting and helping as many dogs as I can.
