Dear Stella,
While I know you can't read this, perhaps you'll perceive it somehow in the ethos. We've become close friends, you and I, and I'm grateful. Weather permitting, once a week, we visit go visit patients. I know it's not your favorite activity. There's no ball to chase, no frisbee to catch, no running around having fun. What there is is people who are somewhere they don't want to be, dealing with things they don't want to have to deal with. And you, in your loving and gentle way, make that day a little easier. For a brief moment, you help them think about something besides why they're there. For a moment, perhaps some don't feel their pain quite as much, maybe they're less worried for a minute or two. But most importantly, all the people you meet, patients, nurses, Dr's, everyone, receives a little love from you, a little light in a dark place. Love is medicine you can't get from any pill or injection. No multi-billion dollar pharmaceutical companies can give them that, but you can, and do, every single visit. I think we'll be able to go again next week. Hear some more stories, get some treats, and share some love. I love you, and I'm proud of you. Not because I'm your "trainer" but because I'm your friend.
